KerbalBase - A website for your ships!
Deadweasel replied to Vilsol's topic in KSP1 Tools and Applications
What about setting up mods as tags, so users can select the mods they used in their craft, apply them as tags, which causes the site to reference links to those mods on Spaceport in the description? -
Working on a crazy Eve ascent vehicle

Von Braun would be proud. -
Oh wait... Are you talking about an interstage 'chute? That'd actually be pretty slick!

Oh jeez.. THOSE were the days! I remember looking at those tables and thinking venomous thoughts at the foresight of all my old math teachers who swore up and down I'd need that boring crap someday.

I tend to waver on both sides of the fence. When I get an idea for a design, I'm hell-bent to see the thing work. I am a cold and heartless taskmaster to my Kerbal slaves- err... employees during testing rounds. But then an interesting thing starts happening afterward. I did a lot of (failed) tests with slapping ridiculously-large thrust packages on a small SSTO before I arrived at a configuration that had the thing fairly screaming out of the atmosphere without even touching the main engines. Once I got to that point, I started putting it to work. The first "official" flight was to get the ship docked with its drive section, in preparation for an exploratory mission to Duna. The single seater made the rendezvous without issues, but at the very moment it docked, the thing exploded in a fatal hail of broken parts. The poor pilot never even knew what hit him. Suddenly I was actually pissed. Not for the wasted time of the mission, but for the fact that I'd been planning a whole automated shuttle flight to return the pilot home, and now there was no reason to bother. I could've shrugged and sent up another drive section and SSTO, but instead I took the time to roll back the persistent file. I still had to go through those flights all over again, but I felt somewhat mollified that I'd helped him cheat an unfair death at the hands of a malicious random bug. I guess in my eyes, Kerbals that go out in a blaze of glory under legitimate circumstances (those being my ineptitude with ship designs from scratch) go out as heroes in pursuit of things much bigger than themselves. Or maybe, I can't stand not having been the one to pull the trigger... Great, now I can't tell if I'm sadistic or just weird. /maybe both?

Not sure if this is new or not. But i just noticed it.

Hey all, I'm trying to get into this modding business to realize an idea that struck me the other night, but to even get started, I have to get my head around C# and how it's used in the game. My idea requires creation of custom windows during flight, like Kerbal Engineer, Protractor or MechJeb, but none of those offer source code that I can reference. I've been looking through the source for Actions On The Fly, but it's quite cryptic to me at the moment. Sadly, the only basic examples I can find for plugin creation focus more on actual part modeling and cfg editing, and a single elementary example of how to inject a line into the log. These examples all assume that the reader is already completely fluent in C#, and seem to be centered around giving a basis for understanding the simplest interaction with the game's methods, but I need a little more than that to go on. For now, the functions I'm trying to create use a simple window with a few buttons to offer up the contents of a text file, and to display the current assigned action groups. There's a lot more expansion I have planned, but for now I want to keep the goals simple. I learn best when I have a goal in mind, and I don't want to discourage myself by biting off more than I can chew. What I need is some kind of basic template that uses less cryptic names so I can gain some understanding of what does what, at which point I will begin to understand how the syntax works. I already have some JS and VB.net experience, so some of what I'm seeing makes sense already; I'm just too inexperienced to understand this well enough to see how it works in context with the game engine. If there isn't some kind of teaching template out there, does anybody at least know of a simple plugin that: Does a simple display of information in a custom window in-game Offers the source in the download, and Has decent commenting to help the reader understand what's going on I appreciate very much any help to get me fired off in the right direction (so to speak)!

Yeah, I'd had that figured out before I ended up shutting down for the night, but I still wonder why that happens.- 799 replies

That looks like a Photoshop/GIMP edit, but it also looks sweet.

Message from the Mun: "Can somebody please change the ground level back to normal? I seem to have an impacted Kerbal and the doctor's closed this weekend."

Hehehehe Now I'm feeling like there's a need to make a video out of this.... Of all the times for me to feel extremely creative...

I see the bad mun arising. I see Kerbals screaming all the way. I see rendered land and lightin'. I see bad flights today. Don't go up tonight, Well, it's bound to take your life, There's a bad mun on the rise. I hear ASAS is a-blowing. I know the end is coming soon. I fear boosters all exploding. I hear the voice of Jeb and ruin. Don't go up tonight, Well, it's bound to take your life, There's a bad mun on the rise. All right! Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like the devs have left out weather. But one eye is taken for an eye. Don't go up tonight, Well, it's bound to take your life, There's a bad mun on the rise. Is the game stable enough to play in realtime?
Deadweasel replied to beeblebrox's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You know, that's one aspect that would really suck. You spend a year and a half in flight getting to Laythe, and by the time you get there, everybody else is marveling at the crazy weather and wildlife that was added to the moon over the six releases they've installed since you launched. D: -

It's okay, no flame intended. It was all tongue-in-cheek anyway. I run all three here so it's all good. -

Deadweasel replied to beeblebrox's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Because running Mac or Linux machines makes the user completely impervious to power outages, hardware failures, OS updates forcing reboots at inopportune/unanticipated times, and malicious/inept/conflicting code bugs. -

[1.3.1] Aviation Lights v3.14 [use MOARdV's version instead!]
Deadweasel replied to BigNose's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Okay, with the big annoyance figured out, time to look at the last one I'm aware of: Why do the lights not hold their state when shifting views away from the loaded area (say through Tracking Station), or when triggering and cancelling the Escape menu? Hmmm.. Maybe there needs to be some kind of key saved in the persistent file to indicate what state the lights are in? /me digs with caffeine-driven claws- 799 replies

Is the game stable enough to play in realtime?
Deadweasel replied to beeblebrox's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You want realism? Play an interplanetary mission in realtime, sure, but before you start, hit the local military surplus store. Stock up on MREs. Now, after launch, when you're on your optimal trajectory, commence living your days waiting by a strict schedule. You get three MREs and a set amount of ounces of water per day. When it comes time to... "offload excess moisture/redundant mass", make sure you capture the liquid for recycling, and the solids go into a baggie, unless you have a toilet with a "slinger" available in your home bathroom. And if you have a slinger-equipped toilet, can I come stay at your place for a while? I'll be navigator! -
