A surface gravity of around 8 m/s and atmospheric pressure of 11 bar would probably put the difficulty around that of Eve.

Which is your favorite planetary body in the solar system?
Bekiekutmoar replied to Kinglet's topic in The Lounge
Top Three: 1: Earth. Largest terrestrial planet in the Solar System with fascinating landscape and for 70% covered in oceans ... ! Noticed the gravity is a but harsh though when I fell down a mountain during skiing. 2: Mars. Interesting planet with interesting landscape and more or less within our reach. 3: Venus. Brutal and unforgiving hellhole. While not too far away, exploration is very difficult due to extreme conditions on the surface. Gotta say I also find Titan interesting. -
I like that the celestial bodies in the Kerbol system represent a broad spectrum of gameplay-difficulties. Personally, I consider Minmus as the 'easiest' object, and Eve as the most difficult, closely followed by Moho and Tylo. I recently designed a 45-ton lander that relied heavily on asparagus engineering and carried a one-man capsule (0,6 ton). I moved the thing to Evian orbit but then my PC died. To this day I haven't succeeded in performing a return mission from Eve (and Laythe, Tylo, Vall, Pol, Bop, Dres and Eeloo). I'll give it another try when I've installed a new GPU in my new system. Doubt KSP runs well with an onboard HD2500.

What do you think about new KSP 0.22 preview viido?
Bekiekutmoar replied to Pawelk198604's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Looks decent. Thought for a second that Cesar Millan did the voice-over. -
My new system won't run KSP just yet: Pentium i3 Quadcore 3,4 Ghz Integrated GPU: HD2500 8 GB RAM OS: Windows 7 - 64-bit Dedicated GPU will follow in a few months probably.

This pic was taken just seconds before the first two deaths in my 0.21 save which I started at the 26th of July. I foolishly connected a big parachute to a battery instead of directly to the capsule, and the thing snapped off upon deployment. Gus and Stanford Kerman died due to aquabraking ... !

Some cons: -Kerbin flickering like a damaged light-bulb from LKO -Kerbin, Mun and Minmus seem a bit too dark -Phantom forces sometimes rip medium landing legs off landing vessels, potentially messing up a mission Some pros: -Duna and Eve visually improved (more interesting landscape and Eve is less gloomy) -Although scaled down, the celestial bodies still 'feel' huge when traversing them with -for example- a rover -Many possibilities in the game, if not almost endless -Drastic reduction of game crashes in the last versions.

Right. I've fabricated a space-plane that might be usable on Duna. Nothing compared to the creations of the space-planes experts on these forums, but the chances are it might actually work. Gotta say it was a pain to get it into orbit, took almost 15 minutes. The initial mass of the plane is almost 15 tonnes and has one jet-engine and two LV-909's. Despite having 5 air intakes the jet-engine couldn't provide useful thrust anymore at 32 km altitude and going roughly 1.400 m/s. I think the plane is certainly capable of traveling to Duna on its own power, but a 'network' of orbital and ground-based fuel-stations is required. The KSC will deal with this matter when the next launch window to Duna will arrive ... !
-
That is my intention and I'd like to do it with decent space-planes. Too bad I really suck at building space-planes yet.
-
That's an option ... ! Or something like a pancake. Especially now that the Dunian terrain has 'roughed up' a bit. Gotta say it'll be a while before another launch window comes up (I'm doing a similar mission to the Jool system and also attempting to construct a proper SSTO) so the colonization of Duna remains in 'ragtag' mode for a while.

A long time ago - in the year 0.20 - the KSC already launched brave pioneers to Duna in primitive spaceships. Although the landings weren't always without problems, no deaths were reported and some important information about the red planet was obtained, like the planetary landscape and atmosphere. Nowadays - in the year 0.21 - the KSC has decided to send 4 Kerbals on a one-way mission to Duna. Goal of this mission is to begin the colonization of the planet and to spread the Kerbal race throughout the Kerbol system. Two ships are launched towards Duna; the Grotesque I and Grotesque II. The Grotesque I is shown below and contains stuff like a Copula Module, Hitchhiker Container and some science instruments. At the time of launch the Grotesque I was unmanned; in case of failure no lives would be lost ... ! The Grotesque II is launched next and carries two rovers; the top rover has two seats and is supposed to be delivered near the landing site of the Grotesque I, to increase the possibilities for the Kerbals to explore the terrain. After that, three Kerbals are launched in an old rocket that has proven itself as reliable 'taxi' in especially LKO. The last Kerbal got transferred from a space station (for some reason I don't have pics of that transfer). The Grotesque I has now 4 crewmembers; Jeb, Bob, Bill and Denham. Then both craft (Grotesque I and II) begin the Hohmann-transfer to Duna. Number I takes 61 days to complete the transfer, number II 69 days. After some aerobraking and correctional burns number I achieves a stable orbit (64-67 km) around Duna. The crewmen are surprised when they see the landscape beneath them; it looks somewhat intimidating with souring mountains and deep valleys, and doesn't match the description the pioneers made back in the year 0.20 ... ! The ship manages to descent into a valley but runs out of fuel too early. The vessel approaches the ground with 14 m/s and that's a bit too fast ... The subsequent landing is a bit rough and the landing module flips over, but the crew survives and nothing seems to be damaged. Jeb rushes outside to admire the alien beauty of the Dunian landscape. After several days the Grotesque II arrives in the Duna area but the landing procedure didn't go as planned. The top rover (important for the landed Kerbals as it provides somewhat fast transportation) lands at the other side of the planet and now has two broken wheels. So much for pinpoint-landing ... The other rover lands around 70 km away from the Kerbals and is currently the only properly functioning rover on Duna. Looks like more material and men are required to patch up this somewhat rocky mission.

The Detestar I just before departure to the Jool system. Goal of this mission is to establish a permanent colony on Laythe and scout the planet with a plane.

Getting an SSTO space-plane into orbit?
Bekiekutmoar replied to Dinjoralo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I finally managed to get a small space-plane into orbit several days ago. A minimum of 2 air intakes for each air-breathing engine is required, 3 or 4 (or more ... !) is recommended. My ascending angle in the first 10 km is mostly between 15 en 30 degrees, after that 5 or even a little bit less. In the upper atmosphere the jet-engines will flame out inevitably but throttling back can kick 'em into action again. With my design I can increase speed to over 1700 m/s with jet-engines only, then the two LV-909's can finish the job and bring the craft into stable orbit. But this depends on your design ofcourse. You better clear the dense atmosphere (below 30 km) before activating the rocket engine(s) to reduce atmospheric drag. -
Kerbin's Gone Kablooey! What about the astronauts?
Bekiekutmoar replied to Borkless's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Hmmm, let's see ... I've got a small space-station in LKO currently manned by 2 Kerbals, and furthermore a bunch of unmanned rovers and probes on the Mun and Minmus. Available engines outside Kerbin atmosphere aren't very efficient (Poodle, LV-909) but I've got some partially drained unmanned fuel-tanks in orbit around Kerbin and the Mun. I could potentially reach and perhaps even land on Duna and Eve, but it would most likely a one-way trip. -
Still 0 in 0.21 ... ! Mostly because I test my space-planes with unmanned probe cores. I only perform manned flights when a plane is stable enough.
-
How many kerbals have you killed already?
Bekiekutmoar replied to Spitfiredzwww's topic in KSP1 Discussion
0. I've only launched some unmanned rovers to the Mun and Minmus in 0.21. One rover got flipped over on the Mun though. -
Check out the new Mun and the Jool system. Its been 7 months since I've been to the latter one ... !

Planet Ideas And Names For The Future Of Kerbal Space Program
Bekiekutmoar replied to Dead Pixel's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2014 to y'all. Now that version 0.25 has been released, we're able to travel to another star system. After a lot of trouble I managed to reach Proxa, a red dwarf star at 0.2 lightyears from the Sun (Kerbol) and decided to visit Sehera, a hot planet orbiting close to its parent star (0,9 to 1,3 million km). Gravity is 8,22 m/s and atmosphere thickness varies between 1,1 bar at the highest mountains and 3,8 on the low and intensely hot flatlands. Not as difficult to ascend from as from Eve, but due to the heat (I measured 319°C at 440 meter) engines overheat quickly. Also love the 'hot air animation' that has been implemented: -
What do you guys think of the Mun's new surface?
Bekiekutmoar replied to bigdad84's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Looks excellent ... ! I consider the new smaller craters as a result of a recent meteor bombardment (after the formation of the Maria) -
New KSC looks excellent ... ! Also love the 'aggressive' looking mountains on Kerbin. According to previous editions of KSP Weekly other celestial bodies had also a geographical update (although no procedural craters), so that sounds promising ... !

The game has (for me at least) a correct balance between realism and gameplay. Planets are scaled down drastically but yet feel gigantic when traversing a crater or desert on foot or with a rover. Rockets and planes are fabricated very easily but the game still permits simulations of complex interplanetary missions. And last but not least; the game is still evolving and gets better on all fronts.

Searched on Wikipedia for info about the Iraqi city of Karbala. Then saw a result that said 'Kerbal Space Program' and assumed it was an Iraqi effort to reach space. Eventually it resulted in me downloading the demo and eventually buying the game. 80% of what I know about space and related phenomena originates from KSP ... !

Mostly progressive trance like this episode of A State of Trance. Especially the part between 31:30 and 35:30 is simply brilliant. http://youtu.be/Nzk36bPhXkg?t=31m5s But also unknown and underrated masterpieces like this. May he (Wesley Willis) rest in peace ... ! http://youtu.be/dI4FwMz-2UE
