Build the biggest airplane (that can land)
Phoenix Aerospace replied to kevinlacht's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Whaa? How do you get the free-rotating rotatrons? Joint_Spring isn\'t working for me. -
Not working for me…
-
How, exactly, does one create a freely rotating rotatron? I want my tip-jet helos!
-
Not bad for a first mod! Keep up the good work!
-
Please, put the mods needed in the post. It makes it a lot easier if we know what we need before we download.

Longest distance travelled by air?
Phoenix Aerospace replied to WeedyG88's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Erm… That is skip gliding, just with jet engines added. -

Concept Series (stock) also Space Station (stock)
Phoenix Aerospace replied to En1r4m's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Congrats on your first post, and I must say, those are some nice super-heavy lifters! Is your station meant to be a centrifuge, at all? If so, I reccomend reading this: http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/artificialgrav.php. It also has some great equations for transfers, orbital mechanics, and the like. We need more good builders like you. Enjoy your stay! -
Rocket carriers
Phoenix Aerospace replied to Knyght's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
To address your first problem, it\'s not at all uncommon for planes to veer like yours. Mine do too. This isn\'t your fault at all. It\'s caused by the way the game handles collision. The parts all have their own collision meshes, and like colliding with each other, even if they\'re on the same craft. This can pose a problem by pushing the craft off course. On planes, where it\'s more pronounced due to atmosphere and the smallish wing parts, it\'s best handled by a good SAS (preferably ADV SAS) unit or trim. (For realism, I like blaming it on crosswind.) The second has a little more to do with design. Look at IRL air launched craft like SpaceShipTwo / WhiteKnightTwo. They always carry the payload below the fuselage, in the case of the Pegasus micro launcher, or below the wing, as in the case of SpaceShipTwo. This is so that the craft can be dropped before lighting the rocket engines, so that it maximizes distance between carrier and payload, thus minimizing the chances of a collision. Example pics are attached. -
Massive ships vs small, really simple ones
Phoenix Aerospace replied to GalaxyGryphon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
But, in the event of a worst case scenario, there\'ll always be config. edits. So, not all hope is lost. -
Massive ships vs small, really simple ones

I hope not either. I\'m a huge fan of your Ker-Flow-Full designs, and the StarSpark is my principal orbital launcher. Wait a sec… From what I heard in his post for the Silisko Edition, he despises the tiny SSTOs that are so easy to make in this version. R.I.P. Micro-orbiters -

Wait… Balancing? Meaning that my tiny 4-tank rockets won\'t work anymore? ... -
Ah! Now it makes sense! Cool nonetheless, IMO. ...

So, here I am, test-flying a kerbalized BA-349 Natter, and I suddenly lose control at high altitude. So, I eject the cockpit, open my parachute, and watch the rest of the plane drift downwards, stabilize, and… start flying again? Yep. I drift downwards, and the thing is actually circling around at ~50 meters above sea level. It then pulls up, and starts circling in the other direction in some wide figure-8 pattern, slowly losing altitude. It then finally crashes into the sea and explodes. I did get some screenies once I realized that something was weird, though. I\'m not sure if this is reproducible, or wether some bug is responsible, but I\'m fine with that, if only for the sheer strangeness that I saw.

Joystick recommendation (and avoidance) thread
Phoenix Aerospace replied to colmo's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I\'d DEFINITELY recommend the Logitech Extreme 3d Pro. It may be a little large, but the handle\'s very ergonomic, responsive, and it has all the buttons you could ever need. Plus, it has a little 8-direction hat switch on the top, which I find very useful for translation with RCS. -

Nope, I can see why though Hint: It\'s a rocket powered glider -

Hint: I usually fly it without canards, even though they are included on the IRL glider. -

[STOCK] Trepidation: Space Delivery Vehicle
Phoenix Aerospace replied to Puterabo's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Listen. You\'re flying to the moon. I\'m not exaggerating when I say that every gram shaved off counts. I repeat: Every. Gram. Counts. If you REALLY want to keep them though, go into the config files, open them with notepad++, and set the part mass to 0.
