Aeronautical Re-Engineering

Pics attatched. Believe it or not, it\'s almost as stable as the IRL version! -
What do you want the Kerbals to be?
Phoenix Aerospace replied to Endeavour's topic in KSP1 Discussion
How about coral? -
Looks like you\'ve got some serious debris goin\' on there! If I were you, I\'d design my rockets so that no stages are ejected while the craft is in a stable orbit. If you get in the way, debris can seriously mess up your ship, and even if the game isn\'t simulating its physics, it can kill your framerate.

[Invention] The Mars Program
Phoenix Aerospace replied to HOC's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
This\'ll be much, much easier once we get docking. That way, we can have comparatively tiny landers for surface exploration at the destination, while leaving the 'heavier' propulsion/transit habitation modules in orbit. Also, this would open up the idea of assembling the craft in orbit; using lighter (ssto?) craft to shuttle crew between the orbiting transit vehicle and KSC. An orbiting fuel depot, which I plan to put into LKO for purposes of refuelling my translunar ferries, aren\'t out of the question either. Dock full tanks to a 'spine' composed of Kosmos/BACE nodes, and swap empty ferry tanks with full ones when needed. For resupply, my idea is to use reusable heavy-lift vehicles to lift the replacement tanks, swap them out, and bring the old ones back for 'refuelling'. I\'m sure that there are many other ways of going about this, though, and I\'d love for other people to give me suggestions. Edit: Remember that IRL Mars\' atmosphere is extremely thin, and that the body has only about 1/3 the gravity of Earth. Thus, it\'ll probably be a LOT easier to get orbit on a Mars-type body than an earthlike one. -
...How tall are the stock fuel tanks, exactly? I\'m trying to model an Interorbital Systems rocket module, and I want it to be compatible with vanilla.

ORLY? I thought that it looked more like an AD-1, judging by the loadout. -
…Anyone?

Powersat. Look under 'Plugin powered Addons'. If you want them for a space station, I highly recommend the Kosmos pack. -
Just don\'t tell Nova.

HLLV Grand Competition
Phoenix Aerospace replied to Phoenix Aerospace's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Welp. I can\'t compete with that. That\'s a lot heavier than I\'ve expected. -
So, here\'s my first contribution to the challenges section. Thus, without further ado, I present the... -HLLV Grand Competition- The Challenge: Make/post a heavy-lift launch vehicle capable of lifting over 10 metric tons (units listed in VAB) of payload mass into a 300 Km orbit. The .craft isn\'t necessary, but highly reccomended. The Rules: Plugins allowed: Kosmos, Angara, NovaPunch, MechJeb Scoring: Extra points will be awarded to those who complete these extra challenges. Completion will earn you 10 points, plus two points for every ton of extra payload that you can successfully lift. [li]SSTO - Don\'t jettison any stages on your way to orbit - 15 Bonus Points[/li] [li]Full Reusability - Make the launcher totally reusable - 10 Bonus Points[/li] [li]Stock Only - Use only vanilla KSP parts - 20 Bonus Points[/li] [li]Munar Orbit Capability - Make Munar orbit with it - 10 Bonus Points[/li] [li]Munar Landing Capability - Land it on the Mun - 15 Bonus Points[/li] [li]Mechjeb Compatable - Make orbit with ONLY ascent autopilot - 10 Bonus Points[/li] [li]Green Machine - Don\'t leave any debris in orbit (automatic for SSTOs) - 10 Bonus Points[/li] [li]Honourably Mentionned - Get onto the Honourable Mentions list - 20 Bonus Points[/li] Leaderboard - The four designs with the highest scores 1- Antiquark : Final score of 527.8 (Name suggestion: Hercules) 2- 3- 4- Honourable Mentions - Designs that I find innovative, or otherwise unique. 1- 2- 3- 4-
