  1. Hey, glad to see you're putting short descriptions with the things you post! So... what program are you using?
  2. So.... whatever happened to the potato contest? Edit: Hey, can we PLEASE keep this thread alive long enough for me to post a video? Please?! anyway, here's a nice picture for you to look at. this is art; please stare at the art.
  3. Guys, did you really let this thread die while i was gone? We just hit 400 posts!
  4. Yeah... i've been working on... stuff.... and some other things. All done in cycles of course.
  5. Wait... are you talking a feature length movie? Like... 1 hour and 45 minutes?
  6. Oh, victor. i saw you were using books in that last scene set all the book spines to a single, diffuse material and use this node setup. That should randomize the book cover colors. Also, set the image texture to a concrete texture, or something similar to give a little bit a surface noise. EDIT: Here's a render of some books with the color randomize material thing. I have 2 different book types there, Paperback, and hardcover.
  7. Ah i see. I'm okay with you using that, because it's based off a VERY old version of the current model i use. Well, you should try adding a sub-surf modifier on your model, it'll smooth it up and make it look better. You can set it to 1 subdivide, and that it also only appears in the render. So, anyone here that uses cycles, can you guys tell me how to make the background NOT produce light, but still color? i've tried looking around the internet, but I've come up empty.
  8. Holy crap... that IS my model... or at least it was based off mine. and looks like you've got the materials all ready for cycles anyway, mine isn't. It'd probably go a lot better if you used that one. EDIT: sorry if it hasn't seemed like i've been complying for giving you my kerbal model, I'm just trying to be careful about who i give it to.
  9. Hey, are you using the texture there as a normal map, or as displacement map?
  10. that's a pretty neat planet. Oh, and I learned something! Potatoes are really hard to make.
  11. So i'm making the material for my potato, and i got a nice planet material instead! PS: not my submission for friendly competition.
  12. Guys, we need some more activity on this thread! Oh i know! how about, someone picks a random object, and we all model, texture, and render it and compare results! PS: next guy after me picks it
  13. It's looking better, I'd suggest adding a very light displacement texture to the walls, just to make it look not so flat.
  14. Well, just watched a tutorial. making a bridge. Result: I rather like it. turns out, watching tutorials is good for improvement! who knew?
  15. It's half life 3, isn't it. Or multiplayer. Half life 3 multiplayer?
  16. So, i've been working in cycles, mostly because i've been peer pressured into it. (thanks guys...) So here's some test. I'll tell you what i set the samples to, and how long each frame 500 samples. T: 10:49 150 samples. T: 3:02 100 samples. T: 2:41 75 samples. T: 1:43 50 samples. T: 1:14 So, which do you think keeps the best quality, while still the best time IMO 100 for quality to time. 75 for time to quality
  17. Hey, i've got a question for those of you who use blender cycles. About how many samples should I set it to if i wanted to make an animation, that still looked pretty clear, but also didn't take forever for each frame?
  18. so we could let other threads have a chance in the spotlight?
  19. Well, actually didn't make the kerbal model I use now, i got a kerbal basemesh from a user here on the forum, who was lost in the great forum derp of April. But here's how you can make an easy mouth, that you can tweak if you want, please note it's image heavy. ________________________________________________ So here we have a crap, kerbal-like model. In edit made, i choose where to put the mouth. Add an edgeloop, on the face where you want the mouth. HOWEVER, this can also be created using the knife tool. it's your choice Tear him a new one with the rip tool. (shortcut: V) Use the knife tool to create a loop of vertices around the new hole. Select this vertex, and rip it. Next, extrude the corner vertex, and fill in the faces. Now, grab the vertices around the mouth edge, and fill them in. Extrude the new face back, and size it up along the Z axis. And lastly, tweak until perfection.
  20. Animations? about 8-10 months. Plus, there are TONS of tutorials online. Here's one of my favorite tutorial sites. http://cgcookie.com/blender/category/tutorials/animation/ That'll take you right to the animation section.
  21. Well, if you plan on moving the whole object, you don't need to do anything. if it's for a character with bending limbs, you're going to need to set it to an armature, which is easy. for mouth movements you're going to have to set up shape keys, but those are also pretty easy.
  22. No, i didn't download it, I made it myself... with the help of an interesting tutorial on how to use the cell fracture tool.
  23. i think, you could throw many at him, and then just copy the image and make your own print, even if it has a kerbal.
