Do you mean this size large rover ? This rover comes in 2 versions.... airless world and atmospheric .... This duna version landed by a descent stage to bring the PE down to about 8km then 2 drogue chutes deployed with the descent unit firing, finally all the main chutes opened and the descent stage dropped. still broke 6 wheels on landing. Airless version has the drogue chutes removed and fly away retro thrusters attatched to the top, usually 3 or 4 designed to let go when the rover lands. Boris

Never ever managed to land on Tylo yet, or do a manned landing on Eve and get the luckless kerbals back Been everywhere else and done manned returns to them
-
I thought it was 5.2 Km/sec it fired at. Anyway, couple of shots from that and the ring gets pushed off center...... Boris .. off designing the magnetic ship accelerator to bring Jeb and co upto ring rotational speed

Would you ride your own rocket?
Boris_T_Roach replied to michaelphoenix22's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'd ride one of mine into orbit without a second thought... Riding it back down to the surface I would'nt since most of my landing profiles consist of getting back down as quickly as possible and if it suffers 22G on aero braking... too bad -
The other thing to remember is that gravity is simulated from a single point in KSP whereas even if you did spin the ring up to generate 1G on the surface , in KSP it would still be at zero g on the surface.. and to land you'd have to match speeds with the ring. Also its unlikely anything in KSP would be able to tolerate the tensile stresses in the ring and it would fly apart anyway. +1 for the idea though

Actually, this is a big no (shock horror forum member agrees with squad ) What we need in planets is to bring the current planets upto the state of Kerbin/mun/minimus with various biomes etc, that way when new planets are added, squad dont get moaned at for not finishing the current planets first. And please dont remove the mohole.. its my only reason for going down to moho in the first place (getting back has proved to be another matter.. ) Boris

Just press the launch buton. For us oldies who played KSP before there was a revert button, it was find out your carefully crafted ship did indeed have a major design flaw, and it showed itself at 22 546m up while doing 700m/sec when the G load went beyond 2.879, if you were lucky the crew capsule would make it out of the fireball , if you were unlucky it would make it out of the fireball without parachutes Boris

Can't harvester just remove the kraken?
Boris_T_Roach replied to Clockwork13's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Thats an easy challenge Having to de-bug interupt handlers on embedded systems is fun... especially when the said crash over writes the entire memory leaving no trace as to why it went wrong Then anaylsed the code and found that 1 yes ONE route through one handler would result in that handler taking 66 milliseconds to process, and the interupts were arriving at the CPU every 64 milliseconds, instant crash as the the CPU went into a recursive loop with the interupts. Can't harvester just remove the kraken?
Boris_T_Roach replied to Clockwork13's topic in KSP1 Discussion
If you think removing the kraken is easy, apply to squad , I'm sure they'd love you But then what happens if its a multi-threaded kraken?, where squishing the kraken on one process thread makes it just means that it pops up on another unrelated thread and eats your ship there Boris -
Got 0.24 installed and running, picked "launch rocket to 5000 meters" as my first mission, built it in the VAB, moved to launch pad, took off... went past 5000 meters, ran out of fuel, noticed a lack of parachute. Boris. Coming next : 101 things to do when you forget solar panels on your unmanned ship

How do you prepare for next release?
Boris_T_Roach replied to Boris_T_Roach's topic in KSP1 Discussion
How much is it going to cost? Boris I'm finally getting around to an Eve return craft.... 3 Kerbals to the surface and ba... the surface again -
So we know 0.24 is very very close (how close is another matter since Squad run on valve time ), but do you do anything different in the current game I'm currently launching rescue missions to retrieve all my kerbals from the various bases and space stations around the Kerbin system, and looking at my science reports, apart from a basic probe landed on eve, I've done nothing else there. so my weekend will be doing some eve science as well and hopefully not leaving a Kerbal behind .... Boris Its a fun question so no taking it too seriously..

I want to build stupidly big stuff!
Boris_T_Roach replied to Foxster's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Look up WhackJob's stuff ... hes a legend around here. Boris -
There is... its called 'sandbox' But then I think all ships should be saved in named folders that you can access from career mode or sandbox.... so you can build/test in sandbox , then move over for the iron man challenge... which sounds kinda fun to try Ironman Eve return mission anyone?

I've played orbiter, and KSP And I plain like KSP a bunch more, partly for the 'design your own wobbley space rocket' bit, partly for the 'lets see if this contraption will fly after you strap 17 SRBs to it' but mostly because I can start it up and have fun for 30 mins launching something at the mun and hoping it gets there and can land. Its incredibly deep space sim if you want, waiting for launch windows and getting your ships to far away worlds etc, or it can be used for a complete casual gamer to launch something and watch it blow up(which is how I started out... then got sucked in to 'go on .. land on the mun using stock parts in 0.12) Boris

How much fuel do you have floating above Kerbin?
Boris_T_Roach replied to Tripzter's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Is that a 3 hours od design/building, then 3 days of lag as your 10 000 part monster slowly gets into orbit? Boris -
Ever have a build just... get away from you?
Boris_T_Roach replied to James_Eh's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Looks perfectly sane and normal to me Boris -
[quote name=Wallace;1202242 As for the spin of the earth and moon' date=' I'm not sure what would happen there. The moon has a stabilising effect of the Earth's spin, stopping it getting too eccentric, I don't know what difference a polar orbit would have but I expect it wouldn't have the same stabilising effect. I suspect the earth's axis would get tilted over a few more degrees and the moon would be forced down out of polar orbit to match the equator (sort of) as it does now, so summers would become nearly 24 hr sunshine and winters would be dark, cold and gloomy. Of course this is discounting the weather effects caused by the extra tilt. Any planetary scientists care to chip in here? Boris

Outside is very over rated Ok so the GFX and sound are great, its a nice sandbox enviroment where you can do what you like, but it has some horrible drawbacks in that there are no reverts, no respawns, and you only get 1 life, plus in order to do anything in 'Outside' you need money, so you end up doing mindless repative tasks over and over in order to earn money, which cuts down on your time available to play in 'outside' properly, then theres the huge number of rules in 'outside' the breaking of which get you placed in a game area called prison, which has no time advance features and you have to serve the sentence in real time. All in all, outside sucks I'd stay indoors playing KSP for the next 3 months Boris PS I'm someone who did just that.. but then I was very sick recovering from emergency heart surgery...

Biggest disaster? Launching a large'ish space station to geo-stationary orbit. All went swimmingly from lift off to 2nd stage booster burnout , that left me in a 3000km by -20km orbit, ready for the station's tug to bring the orbit to the correct 2868km one. Waited the hr for the station to hit AP, went to turn it prograde, and noticed the lack of solar panels......... and batteries...... oh welll watch it become a fireball and try again. Boris

Need help: do I ignite LVN engines in high atmosphere or not?
Boris_T_Roach replied to Cirocco's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Best way I've found to use nukes on my ships is to use the LH/LOX fuelled boosters to get the nuclear powered bit into a 130km * 5Km orbit, then dump the boosters and any supporting structure and just use the nukes to circularise the orbit. Keeps the debris count down too. Boris -
Any reason why KSP is mainly piloted space exploration?
Boris_T_Roach replied to USAGuerrilla's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The reason is simple Unmanned probes dont smile as they plummet towards the mun at 500 m/sec, all my manned probes looked like they were thinking "Cool, we're gonna be the first Kerbals on the mun, although we are coming in a touch too fas<BOOM> Boris -
After my first successful landing on Laythe... Boris

I destroyed a Jool probe a couple of versions ago by using mechjeb to give me a nice safe 30Km Pe for aerobraking on return to Kerbin, sadly I never noticed when the SOI changed the Pe changed to -300km and I'm doing about 15km/sec .... The destruction sequence only started when a joint failed between a hitchhiker pod and the multi-connector thing..... but then it was BOOM gone in a flash. But thats what you get when you re-enter your interplanetary probe than never designed to do anything more than an gentle aero capture at Jool.... Boris
