The thing I don't like about that rover is that it's completely invincible. Your pod will explode and the rover will just bounce away into the sunset. Back on point, these tiny SRBs are hilarious. Really nice for getting rid of my big side fuel tanks, otherwise they drift into my spacecraft and blow up

Nabbed this screenshot on my ejection to Jool a few minutes ago. My kudos to the men and or women who designed these visuals. I've also witnessed some pretty cool shots from Duna and such. The way it handles lighting in space is just awesome.

Radar altimeter shows true altitude. For example, while landing on the Mun, you may land on a mountain that's several thousand meters higher than you expect, and smash into it because you're trusting your basic altimeter too much. The radar altimeter shows the altitude of whatever's directly underneath you (I assume) so that doesn't happen. I believe it's near the same, if not, as the "True Altitude" that MechJeb gives you. The basic altimeter reads from sea level, not from the ground under you.
-
Ah, okay. I just went in-game and confirmed that. A little disorienting. My mind wants me to believe that Jeb's butt is facing the ground, but indeed the window is slightly behind him.
-
I actually managed to land on Duna a little bit ago in the one-man pod, and I noticed something while I was looking out the window.... My seat is installed upside down! I'm just wondering if this is intentional, because that would kinda mess up the window view from rovers later on, since the majority of them use that pod. Also this thing is impossible to stand on it's head. At least on a hill.

[Plugin][Part][0.16] Animated Cargo Bay
Aphox replied to Echo 8 ÉRÀ's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
They're pointing to photobucket for me, but yes, direct image embedding would be nice. Don't forget the spoiler tags! And this is a pretty neat looking add-on, however, some sort of decoupling function, perhaps? -
Mostly molten hydrogen/other things, with a rocky core. Source: http://scienceblogs.com/startswithabang/2010/01/20/q-a-inside-a-gas-giant/

I hate posting off-questions like this, but does anyone know where to find the landing gear used in the screenshots on the original post?

I've created a Curiosity-type lunar lander that hovers in and drops a payload (usually a rover) and then flies away and blows up somewhere since I can't control it/have no use for it afterward. I'm anxious to see the new planets and use that very setup for a Curiosity landing simulation of sorts, parachute and all. Also hoping someday, I can re-attach separated parts so that hover crane dealy doesn't have to fly off and explode :B And yeah, what he said. New moons probably won't have atmosphere, but the planets should. At least I hope. I don't want to land in molten hydrogen.

Yeah, I kinda just found this out. I got my jet, which is roughly based off the design of a 747 (pretty long, 4 engines) to around 13,600 meters and it seemed to hit it's maximum thrust, giving me 200 intake power and using fuel pretty slowly. If I went higher than about 16,000m, the efficiency dropped a bit and I lost a little speed. I didn't design the craft to jettison the fuel tanks so the fastest I got going was 650 m/s, but that's still pretty fast considering my previous flights maxed around 250 because I wasn't climbing high enough. Would still like to know if the nacelle/radial engine mounts/fans/ram scoops have any significant effect though, and on which engines each works best.
-
I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to properly use the jet engines. Their descriptions make me feel like they can get pretty high, but it seems like after I reach a certain point in altitude, I start to drop, whether I'm using the turbo or the regular ones. My questions really come down to what is the maximum altitude for both engines, how do the nacelles work, etc. The turbo engine's description makes me think it could go really high, because of the part that says it's better in thin air environments, but once I get around 8000 meters, I start to drop and it chokes. I'm just confused and terrible at this game. Anybody have a definition of these parts? Another thing I've noticed is the "OptimalFlow" when I right click the engine. It says 60.00, but the higher I get, the less efficiently the engine appears to operate. I'm not a rocket scientist yet, so I'd love to have someone explain all this, or give me a link to a guide that does that.

I have to admit, I lol'd pretty hard at the SRB. That's really what they are.

Sounds like you have been visited by the space kraken. That sounds like a pretty nasty bug though. To be expected, as the game is in alpha stage. Not sure what to tell you other than that.

Reach the Speed of Light! (Read desc)
Aphox replied to Skyro's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
shift + alt + control + d Turn on infinite fuel, build desired craft, leave it on for a few hours until captured by space kraken. Fiddle with controls for hours in attmps to struggle free of kraken. Got to 100K m/s that way. Could easilly have gone higher. Getting to c, however, would take an incredible amount of time that I'm not willing to devote. Also unsure if debug is allowed, though I don't see why not if cfg edits are. I did this a couple weeks ago when I thought of the idea of getting to light-speed myself and quit when I found out how long it would take. Found some Orbital Construction teleport glitches that will send you far over it though. MechJeb not required, but it made it easier. -
How do I fix my orbit for a rendezvous?
Aphox replied to Aphox's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yeah, kinda noticing that now. Even with the Orbital Construction mod and the jump drive that teleports me straight to the station, they still kinda noodle around eachother. But I guess it\'s easy enough to EVA to the thing when you get close. EVA is incredibly easy to control at short range. -
I laughed when he collided. Am I a terrible person? Also, you should disable mouse capturing next time you make a video =P

There\'s things I need to interact with on each side. I\'m very particular about the level of zoom I work at in certain points of the ship, it\'d purely be a convenience feature to be able to close or minimize it. Even resizing. It\'s just so huge. Although I suppose it could sit at the very tip of the edge as long as I don\'t move it too far and lose it. Still though. Would be a nice option.

Is there any way to get rid of the Servo Config window in the VAB without removing servos? It\'s rather large and annoying.

I\'ve noticed the continent KSC is located on looks a lot like Africa. That\'s all I know about that though. :B

Revolutionary/Original Spaceships/Planes
Aphox replied to zekes's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
In a literal sense of the term, yes. The landing gear and lack of gear bays tells me it takes off and lands (maybe) vertically on it\'s struts. Question is, can it fly straight like a plane after it takes off or is it made to go to the mun? -
Did you run out of fuel or something? Also, take screenshots with the F1 key ingame. Use an image host like Tinypic or Imgur and post them in tags or use the Insert Image button in the post editor and put spoiler tags around them if they\'re big (nuclear fallout button on the editor).

How do I fix my orbit for a rendezvous?
Aphox replied to Aphox's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It makes perfect sense, actually. I figured that out after a little bit of messing with it. Got it within 25 meters of the station for a few minutes, but had to constantly adjust. What I\'m having trouble with is getting the rendezvous craft going the exact same direction and speed as the station. They were on the exact same orbit on the map, even at maximum zoom, but they still seemed to go in and out from eachother a kilometer or two. It\'s hard to judge which exact direction you need to burn when you\'re that far out. -
How do I fix my orbit for a rendezvous?
Aphox replied to Aphox's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Well, I\'ve completed the mission. I found it near impossible to get my rendezvous craft to orbit in perfect sync with the station; as with every orbit, it would slowly drift further and further. I EVA\'d two of the kerbals and got them into the crewpod on the station, leaving one to return the shuttle home. A rescue vehicle will be deployed to him, as well as Bob and Bill, who\'ve been trapped on the other side of Kerbin for years, as soon as I figure out how to get something that heavy that far. -
My space station had a little trouble staying upright in sub-orbital flight, so it went on a light skew in it\'s orbit, causing this to happen. They come across eachother very closely-- around 300m, but I can\'t judge which direction it\'s going and what direction I need to burn to keep my orbit and speed exact with it. Anyone have any tips on how to get these two in sync? For reference, the ISS is at 403KM Pe and Ap @ 1876.3 m/s. I\'m using a MechJeb for the rendezvous since I\'m terrible at rocket surgery, but it can\'t compensate for the slight skew of the orbit.

This is really all I can say.
