So do they at least have a rough sketch of the Moon rocket? I'd imagine it will somewhat resemble BFR. Can't really imagine a simpler way to build a reusable rocket+spaceship. Are they waiting for something or simply don't want to reveal too much for now because they are afraid of the kind of doubt and backlash (can you even call it that?) Elon gets for overpromising too soon?

bring back sandstone kerbals

Oooooooh, these sandstone kerbals! I thought he meant the in-game statues in the desert. -

Chinese Space Program (CNSA) & Ch. commercial launch and discussion
Wjolcz replied to tater's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Soooo... Will they? IIRC part of the reason why China isn't a part of the ISS research is because there are technologies there other nations don't want them to have. I hope there will be as much international space collaboration as possible though. The more the better IMO. -
GRS?

I don't think a randomly placed alien spaceship that does nothing except floats in space would hurt anybody. It would basically be a reskinned monolith except you would have to search for multiple clues in order to find it. IMO that's a nice way to nudge players to search for stuff and explore a bit more. I can't really think of reward for finding it. I'm thinking maybe warp drive tech (only available in career and science modes for finding the relic) but that would probably be a bit too much for the stock game. I agree about the full potential part. KSP still needs a couple of things before I can call it a finished game.

Wouldn't carbon fiber be lighter than kevlar though? Does anyone know how kevlar and carbon fiber degrade in space conditions over time?

Stairs? Why not ladders?

Yeah, I knew about this one. It's just that it never occurred to me that you could have two spaceships connected by tether. And I guess there's not much difference what's on the other end but having two autonomous ships that can do everything on their own (apart from generating artificial gravity) and connecting them like that would be a really smart and relatively simple thing to do +you get twice the payload/crew in one go and always in proximity in case something goes horribly wrong on one of the ships.
-
Bezos certainly has money to develop a Moon rocket though. So if there are contries/companies/space organisations/whatever interested in going there and they can pay for the ticket he will build it.
-
I've never thought about having two ships connected like that. It's simple and elegant. What do you mean by elastic forces? The tether could get into resonance and snap or something? What about having two or three tethers instead of one?
-
I remember (though I might be wrong) Elon saying that the RCS nozzles would be scaled down Raptors. How would they restart them each time they need to adjust the approach or anything? I have no idea.
-
But I thought it's only for the booster? When I said BFR I meant the ship.
-
The fairing would need a parafoil and they would need a boat to recover it anyway, so what difference does it make if they try catching it? Will BFR have legs or will the landing pad have some sort of catching device?
-
Oh, I see. Not much will happen during the launch though. The stage won't even land on the barge.

The stream is saved on YT.

Alright! So @sevenperforce is a fanboy because @mikegarrison says so so he will never be right no matter what therefore he lost this argument. @mikegarrison gets +1 to fake internet argument points. Well done! Can we be done now? To contribute to the thread (watch out SpaceX fanboy speaking now!): Now I don't know everything but IMO it's not a 1 or 0 thing. It's more of a "more risk vs less risk" or "more dead vs less dead" problem. You either have 3 people in the capsule while the rocket is being fuelled or you have the crew AND ground crew walking around a fully fuelled rocket that is (AFAIK) being topped all the time they are there. What is less risky? Me thinks 3 people in the capsule with working LES on a rocket that is being fuelled. But I'm not to decide how to do space stuff so who cares?

Not as smooth looking as I expected but if it gets the job done then I don't care. Edit: are they planning to bring the trunk back too? It would probably be possible to do with what they are planning for the second stage. Except the trunk has less mass and more space to put ballutes and chutes in it. They could "grasshopper" it first before doing bigger and heavier stuff (second stage) later. I mean, they are both cylidrical and the same diameter, right?

One of my first properly drawn creatures. Drawing the basic "skeleton" first helps a lot.
-
Not sure if the ISS is good enough to build something like Nautilus-X out of it. I'm guessing that's what LOP-G is intended for (unless Musk gets to Mars first).
-
Woah. It's better than any sci-fi spaceship because this one is real. Starliner on the right is cool too.

KSP Future DLC Ideas
Wjolcz replied to Dedpewlio's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Not to derail this thread but KSP should be like this (I mean interesting) without any DLCs. There still is room for improvement when it comes to science (actual scientific instruments and space telescopes) and I don't want to turn this post into a rant but I would hate a DLC that does something stock KSP should have done a long time ago. About the colonization part: I'm not sure if that would make me to go places more than once. But then it depends how it would be handled, I guess. If I could build launch pads on other worlds and trade resources between colonies (to build more stuff or hire more crew, or just to make money for the space program) then that might actually be pretty fun. Edit: OK so I guess what I'd like to see is a DLC like this: Build colonies to dig for resources (to make parts) or send them to Kerbin for money (KSC would have infinite number of parts but not money). Now imagine having two colonies in the Jool system. One on Vall and the other one on Laythe. You need a greenhouse on Vall but don't have enough resources to build it there. What you can do is either mine and launch the resources (using resources) from Laythe or send it from KSC (paying for it). You would have to think if you should expand the Laythe colony, move the crew from Vall to Laythe and wait a couple of years for the greenhouse OR risk losing the resources from Laythe in order to expand Vall colony quicker but if you fail the crew on Vall will die. It would probably never happen though. Might be a fun mechanic nevertheless. -
Big ship wrecks in space between Dres and Jool? Yes, please. Also interstellar visitors. The best way to introduce this IMO would be having an alien probe on one of the bodies (best if it was random) that when visited would give you the Periapsis/Apoapsis/some other orbital coordinate of a much bigger ship in the outer solar system. Its position would also be random. That way everyone would be encouraged to search instead of going straight for the ship once somebody posts its position.
