I like how the question of "what first" is directed towards sandbox players only because there's simply no choice in career mode. In my modded career I go unmanned scouts first (because I have a choice) and then the manned mission just for the sake of it and to plant a flag.

What's with these pink posts recently? I've never seen them before. On topic: it's been discussed many times in the past.

Could Engineers Build in Space!?
Wjolcz replied to BlockTrooper's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Could they? I agree. There are two mods for that called KIS and KAS, which do the job for now. -
Nice. Another good mod making career playable.

Career and energy musings.
Wjolcz replied to dangerhamster's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I'm guessing the main problem here is that you have noticed that the funds accumulate very easily in the career mode, so: This kind of mechanic could be replaced with space mining. I really think there should be a way to mine xenon from certain, far away places (like the Jool system, even though it doesn't make much sense but what does in KSP?). It doesn't really fix the lack of the ukpeep costs, but that's something I'd like to talk in the second part of my post. The problem: the abundance of funds. The solution: monthly capped budget (based on reputation) + tech needing money instead of science points. I play my career that way^^^ (thanks to a few mods) and it's very nicely balanced. I have to watch my funds, wait for them to accumulate (a nice way to introduce the time-passing mechanic) and carefuly decide if I can afford new tech, a failed launch or a facility upgrade. And it's not that complicated as it might seem. All that would have to be done in the stock game is: -Replacing science points with reputation points as the science experiments' outcome -Getting rid of science-to-tech research mechanic (and the science points entirely) and introduce money as the main R&D currency -Reoriginizg the tree to make it look like this. -

Rocket Part Revamp Discussion Thread
Wjolcz replied to Whirligig Girl's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I bet they simply don't have anyone who can nail PorkJet's style. And they don't want to repeat the same mistake that happened to the other part revamp projects a few times already. I always tried to be on the LEGO side of the community, because thought in the world of KSP the rocket parts are mass produced in factories, but I now think that procedural tanks/girders/wings could have saved a lot of time. Create one texture, make the tank stretchy and focus on the engines and capsules only. -
I hope there's as much international collaboration in the spaceflight industry as possible. If you do a few small steps with someone you might as well go on a much longer journey with them.

Game seems a lot more Grindy now
Wjolcz replied to RocketBlam's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
It doesn't matter what one does. There are no playstyles in KSP. The only way to progress is to do what the game dictates you to do. The fact that contracts ask you about random things doesn't give you much option to create your own "playstyle". You either do the random stuff and magically harvest "tech unlock points from space" or don't progress at all. The career needs to change. It can be done, but since there's this weird career Stockholm syndrome going on the devs see no point to do that. Finish the tree, finish the game, amirite? -
Wind power would be nice. It's really hard to have any ISRU in the Jool system (especially Laythe) even with the RTG. You have to have quite a few of them. And they don't look very nice spammed around a fuel tank. I guess we have the fuel cells, but burning fuel to make fuel doesn't seem right. It seems you have enabled the easiest settings for the communication system. If you set it to hard, the line of sight doesn't clip through the planets. Random failures? Well... I'd rather if the failures were player-dependent. If you bump a tank it has a chance to leak, if you bend an antenna it's range decreases and things like that.

That seems different though. They are tilted head-down to spread the blood pressure evenly around the body (and make the head swell) to simulate 0G environment. If you start rotating the cylinder-shaped spacecraft and keep the feet lower than the head when laying down then the whole body experiences 1G and the pressure is higher in the lower body which would make the heart perform more work to pump the blood, thus keeping it in a healthy state. It probably wouldn't fix the muscle and bone mass loss problem, but still better than nothing. Maybe it could even prevent the build up of the cerebrospinal fluid?
-
I was actually thinking about it. Wouldn't a simple cylinder (not necessarily big enough to have ~1G feeling in the whole body when standing up) work well when spun during the "night time"? The astronauts would simply lay down (maybe with their head slightly higher than their feet to stimulate the heart) during the sleep and everything would probably be fine. I mean, there obviously are people in space industry who thought about this, but it seems pretty logical. 1G is 1G, doesn't matter if you stand or lay down, right?

Or maybe you should support the change of career mode. I feel like some sort of activist now. "Hello, sir! Do you have the time to talk about our lord and saviour Careerus Modus?" -
You can alrady sort of simulate that. I wasn't aware it was done IRL though. Pretty cool.

CommNet Range/Tech and Game Play

Poor game design. -
There isn't a mod that does exactly what I said as far as I know. I've been told Kerbalism can be configured that way though. So I guess it's Kerbalism then.

-One "Life Support" resource -EC usage depends on the kerbal number on-board (to simulate the water and air purification thingies) -One greenhouse part that would generate "Life Support" resource as long as it has EC.

CommNet Range/Tech and Game Play
Wjolcz replied to sdrevik's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Except that's wrong. The modlist actually enables me to choose what I want to do. I can go to the Mun, Minmus, build a station entertain the tourists, send probes wherever and whenever I want to. The fact that tourist contracts give too much reputation is a different thing though. The approach of "I want to be forced to visit Mun/Minmus" is... really bad. What you are sayins is "play it this way because exploration". The exploration part of the game should be driven by contracts. They should be the main reason to go "out there", not tech research. You should be able to say "I want to go to planet X, do you want me to do anything there?" If the missions/contracts don't do that then the game is finished when the tree is finished, which is not right. Contracts are so bad people just go "hey, I beat the game! look at my completed tech tree!". -

Don't bother, OP. Better take a look into the thread in my sig if you really want to enjoy the career. I'm not trying to be a career fürher here. People seem to enjoy the stock science grind, for some odd reason. Just saying that IMO stock career mode sucks. <- personal opinion
