[0.21] Hooligan Labs - Airship, Submarines and More
kahlzun replied to Hooligan Labs's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Oh, heck. While I'm glad to see this continuing, it's not going to be the same without Hooligan. -
"Sir! Sir! Mr Mission Director! We've just received a report from Intelligence! That new OOP-3 spysat we put up for them? It's detected parallax: The Krussians have launched!" [sOME TIME LATER, IN THE BRIEFING ROOM] MD>"Alright team, I've gathered you here today to brief you on this mission. With me is Kirrim Kerman, one of the members of our Intelligence corp. Kirrim, please?" KK>"Thankyou sir. Alright guys, we've got a situation. Sigint has recieved a report of a Krussian launch, with the intent of destroying our new Laythe base. Murmurs bounce across the room. Can this be true? The Krussians haven't had this capability previously! KK>"Alright, alright.. quiet down. Our intelligence is pretty solid: we have a ground report from a mole in 'their KSC', including rough schematics, and a report from one of those new OOP-3 spysats, uh, 3X i believe. MD>"Thanks Kirrim. You're welcome to watch over the proceedings, but we've got it from here." MD>"Your mission is: Build a vessel capable of intercepting the rocket BEFORE it reaches Laythe. Either terminate the vessel, interfere with its telemetry, or overpower the crew and bring it back here. MD>"It is imperative the rocket is stopped before entering Laythes SOI: We have no intelligence as to the type of weapon they are intending to use, and we need to ensure our Laythe base is safe from any threat. Analysis of the design and photographs show a design flaw: the ship was built without electrical generation or RCS, it's completely ballistic: no maneuvering capability." ---------------------------- tl;dr: Stop an 'enemy' ship from reaching Laythe. You have a few options here: Destruction Fully destroy the rocket, including all crew modules and fuel tanks. This is considered the easiest, and is scored accordingly. Capture As the Krussian ship is staffed with 7 of their Kormin Kosmonauts, you will need at least that many astronauts on your ship to subdue the captured crew. Dock your ship to theirs, and bring the combined ships home, landing them safely on the KSC grounds. Interference. This is for more creative solutions. Push their ship so it collides with Vall or Jool? This is the category. It has to be something special or unusual however. Also note you cannot 'dock' to the Krussian vessel when using this mode. Save file available here: Stop-That-Ship.zip Krussian craft blueprints are included in the save for analysis (as are the above photos) SCORING: DESTRUCTION METHOD: +50 Points for FULL DESTRUCTION! (all crew modules and fuel tanks) +10 Points per GM away from Jool the ship is at destruction (Starts at 68GM) CAPTURE METHOD: +75 Points for successfully returning enemy vessel to Kerbin +10 Points per 'enemy' Kerbal (Kirmen) captured (empty slot on ship) +15 Points per Kerbal brought in excess of the required 7 +20 if both ships land within 2km of KSC +100 if at least one ship lands on the launchpad or VAB. INTERFERENCE: Scoring for entries under this category will be community based. It is highly encouraged to show creativity. *My personal attempt is in progress of completion* *For the moment, the challenge is to just do it: later will add scores etc.*

Colony/World/Generation ship Discussion
kahlzun replied to Will Fawkes's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I know it's incorrect, but whenever I hear 'generation ship' i can't help but think of a ship that builds other ships, like a Von Neumann machine. -
I think you underestimate how much less efficient mainsails are.. at least use Skippers instead.

this probably explains it best: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/09/30/absolutely-everything-you-need-to-know-about-how-the-government-shutdown-will-work/

Just installed Fustek, lost re-entry drag
kahlzun replied to KerBob's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
We gotta see a video of this.. seriously.. How close to KSC can you put a periapsis? -
Hey mate, Welcome aboard. Pull up a deckchair and grab a Crowny- you'll be here a while ;-) We need to get a fair dinkum space agency here in aus, we've got the oil and uranium and everything. Hell, we've even got Woomera outback, where they tested the first ICBMs ('blue streak'), so we know we've got orbit capability. Even the ruddy kiwis have a proper space prescence (http://www.rocketlab.co.nz/) and we're hitchhiking on the french and americans launches like a mob of yobbos. Not right.

liquid fuel is a total figure, not just the amount in the lower tank. You'd need to set it to a figure greater than the amount in the T400 in the upper stage (180? I forget) to get it to trigger.

I was all 'meh' until i saw it controlling multiple ships. Naturally, my first thought was to bombard KSC2. Sincerely, a bad person.

Wheels on the rovers will consume about 2u/s of power. Most of 'deployable' solar panels provide 2 u/s when facing the sun perfectly. The stationary panels only provide 0.75U/s Depending on the number of wheels, you may need more panels. Or you can switch off the motor on a couple of the wheels. Or, take some RTG's along. They provide power without sunlight.

Turbo Jetengine AfterBurners
kahlzun replied to Dooz's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
"better fuel consumption.... F22 raptor" But what kind of ISP does it have? -
I remember back in 0.17 or so, there was a guy who built a 150m tower out of the girder sections on Gilly. Eventually, because there were no struts to support it, it fell over in an awesome slow-motion collapse that he got on .gif, complete with kerbal running away from the tower.

Make sure you submit it to the K-Prize forum!

i believe you are correct. After an initial 'burst' of vapour, you'd be left with a solidish mass, probably passingly similar to snow or slush. Over time, this would sublimate into the vacuum around it as it absorbed energy from radiative heat etc. The question i'd like to see answered is "would thermite, or similar metal/oxide fires burn in vacuum"?

GameData/Squad/Spaces duplicate asset memory reduction
kahlzun replied to somnambulist's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
i just tend to delete the items in spaces that i don't use. The iva for the Mk2 cockpit is worse than useless. -
I am very good.

Slight necro here, but what editing software to use? I want to be able to selectively accelerate sections (like what scott manley does), and record post audio... free is possible

Have fun! Its a bit of a rabbithole.

Using several mods, I have attempted to recreate the Apollo 11 landing as closely as i could. Ignoring the bulbous Saturn V, i think i did ok.
