  1. Alright, so that's one vote stating "makes no difference". Two, if you count my confusion. Are there any rebuttals from the retrograde launch crowd?
  2. With it's ultra-thick and high atmosphere, and high gravity, Eve is the hardest planet to launch from. What I am wondering is, how closely does it match launch requirements for a 'real' launch from Earth's surface? I have heard that it takes about 8000ms to reach low orbit in both? Thoughts?
  3. Hi guys! Ever since i was first learning how to intercept other planets in 0.17, I was always told to launch into a 90 degree orbit if planning to transfer to 'outside' planets, and a 270 degree orbit for 'inside' planets. I was thinking about it the other day, and realised it shouldn't make any difference to your orbital velocity, it would just change what side of the planet you burn from, unless I'm missing something. So, kerbonauts, I ask you: Is there any benefit to doing this, or am I just wasting 178 ms of fuel getting into a 270 orbit? I mean, on that calculator thing it says to get into a retrograde orbit for Moho or Eve... how much difference is there really? Cheers, Sam
  4. Aw. I have been getting a lot of joy from these, I'll be sorry to see it nerfed. Does that mean balloons will never work on Duna?
  5. Actually, it would be very hot: the engines would not run (obviously) and sitting in the full glare of the sun would warm it up quickly. Imagine standing in the middle of a parking lot, on a clear, hot, day. That's how much heat the plane would be receiving.
  6. Link just takes me to an about:blank page..
  7. It was Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. They sat there BEING AWESOME until any pathogens gave up trying.
  8. "Help me June 22 2013" Looks at calendar, says "25th June" I think you've missed the boat here, technicalfool
  9. Good idea! Newbs especially would benefit from a central repository, however... Point 1: 200 Newtons is 0.2 in that calculation, the engines are rated in 'kilonewtons'. The ion engine puts out 500 Newtons, and that can't even lift its own weight against Kerbin gravity. Point 2: Gravity at KSC is 9.81 ms, not 9.86. Local gravity does NOT affect deltaV: the conversion is ALWAYS 9.81 (Earth/Kerbin sea level gravity)
  10. That is significantly pimping! Well done, sir!
  11. Wait, so you could expand the top pad, and build another on top of that, and so on and so on?? Padception
  12. they become a seperate mission, and stand on the launchpad until you 'end them', or launch a new flight.
  13. The first, and obvious question is did you run out of power? Try adding an RTG, or some batteries. If that isn't the problem, check back with us
  14. its actually really interesting watching you go through the stages of KSP development.. If you're trying to land somewhere, Minmus is easier than the Mun (as it has much less gravity) but a little harder to get to.
  15. to make maps of planets, you want the ISA Mapsat mod, if you don't already have it.
  16. I know that it would be really difficult to estimate, due to various factors, but do we have any idea what the actual Isp of the Orion is?
  17. You'd get a lot more to orbit without those wasted caps... at the moment, all they do is add 0.4T/each to your mass, and an extra part tank. Get rid of those, and you'd reduce your part count by 169, which would possibly be enough for another stage... (whats the TWR at launch of that thing?)
  18. Supposedly, you were able to do the Illuminator/Solar panel exploit in an earlier version (or one of the dev builds, don't remember). I remember reading a patch note that explained they were fixing it.
  19. Commercially Orbiting Fully Functional Ion/Nuclear Fighters and Interceptors. LASER and Light Emission Radiation Specialists. (Technically COFFIN FILLERS, but close enough
  20. Proud partners with the Sombra Corporation I called mine Darkness, because it sounds a: coolish and b: space-y
  21. Build a Kerbal Cannon! Find and land next to EVERY easter egg/anomaly!
  22. Does anyone else get concerned, but strangely unsurprised to see that Kerbal helmets are not watertight?
  23. lander fell over (on a hill), i panicked, hit the throttle, and the whole thing careened to pieces!
