  1. Hi all I'm really happy to see that the space sim is finally making a solid return, with a bunch of new games being announced, some with E3 level of hype even. However, it seems that the only ones that still respect our universe's gravitation physics is Orbiter and KSP, which I find unfortunate! Anyone knows of games old or upcoming that have real orbital mechanics?
  2. Wow, this is smaller than the Flying Stick, my smallest SSTO! Congrats BTW, the Flying Stick is basically that with a larger tank and without wings (it's a rocket). It lands with parachutes.
  3. I know, right? That's why I reassembled it completely. But I'm actually testing it again right now and I think the problem was the nuclear engine, but I had to reassemble the thing twice to figure this out. Would be nice to have a mod that checks clipping inside the SPH/VAB (hint for modders!)
  4. hey, nice mod Here's my space plane made with these parts (I think I'm using some bits from B9 as well). So far it can land on the mun but I'm still perfecting the return bit It's designed to work with ferram aerodynamics. This particular plane is having an odd issue though. If I leave it standing still (orbiting) it will slowly start spinning. I also lost a few wings under mysterious circumstances, I went to lunch and when I came back my wings were floating away from the plane I reassembled the craft completely to see if I could find anything that could be overlapping but no such luck, it always spins when left still. This may have caused the loss of wings or be connected in some way. I'm not requesting support though, it's impossible to tell what part is causing this, specially since I'm using two mods at once (parts mods).
  5. I found that wiki/github on the OP to be very helpful. Did you read it? it's really easy to miss amidst other links!
  6. The experience of reaching orbit for the first time was absolutely fantastic. It didn't even have map view so we had to calculate the correct velocities for the corresponding altitude (I remember using a table of values someone made). In order to see if I really did achieved orbit I left the game on for hours, staring at an ugly rocket follow an extremely elliptic orbit, until I could recognize some part of the terrain and say "yep! I've seen that before, it truly is orbiting the planet!". Just an awesome feeling... edit: I don't know which version was that though. It didn't have a mun nor a map view, I remember.
  7. The cheapest way to get there would be to launch at the correct inclination, but this can be tricky if you don't yet master the concepts involved. I think the easiest path there (conceptually speaking) is like diomedea said: get to orbit, match planes of inclination and then do a Hohmann transfer. Don't worry about efficiency for now, just make larger rockets, if fuel is a problem Since the SOI of Minmus is so small, it's important to get step 2 as precise as possible. Also, if you're having trouble finding an intersection, remember to move the node all the way along the craft's orbit while keeping the planned trajectory always touching minmus trajectory... I'm not sure if this is clear enough.
  8. I put an asteroid on my space station and it bugged the whole thing. I realized something was off during docking phase, it felt that they docked already but the ports weren't connected so I loaded to a few moments before and retried this a few times. Eventually it seemed docked... but now the whole station starts to wobble increasingly stronger until it crashes. So, just be warned that you could brick your space station
  9. I just started to play with this mod, and it's a lot of fun! There are some crazy maneuvers that I couldn't pull it off before, like making the plane "brake" and stand with nose up. Flying planes really is a lot of fun with this mod. Overall, although the mod adds a lot of variables and complexity to the game, it's quite overpowered. My first plane with the mod got an apogee of 75 km. Let me say that again. My very first plane - not a rocket, it only had one jet engine - could, in theory, get involved in an accident with my space station. The thing was so damn fast it's a challenge not to dismantle the plane at every curve. I've been messing with space planes a while and one of my long time goals was to make a 3-seat space plane SSTO that could land at other planets. I managed to make a 2-seat plane that could land on the mun and that was my record. Until now, that is. My second plane with this mod was a 3-seat plane with 2 rapiers and a nuclear engine, and it got to duna and back! (no landing) It didn't even have lights, landing gear, docking port, because it was a test flight to see it achieved orbit. I admit that climbing to orbit was a bumpy ride (its Lp is positive and I have no idea how to solve that). Anyway, that's my general opinion so far. Maybe 'realistic' isn't the ideal parameter for ksp where kerbin is much smaller than earth and has a different atmosphere.
  10. I knew it was something on my end (how else could I access from a different computer?). But well, I guess I did change that file. Why? o_o
  11. IT IS SOLVED!! Wow, that was the most annoying issue I ever had with a forum. And I am 98% certain I never altered that "host" file in my life. I'll leave 2% of doubt because, who knows, maybe I was drunk and can't remember lol. Thanks for showing me that
  12. Thanks for moving. I realized there were a more appropriate forum after posting. I tried logging out and in, it makes no difference. My system time is also correct. Here is a screenshot (notice that the two topics in 2014 are mine)
  13. Hi all I have a very unusual bug going on that support couldn't help me with yet (we exchanged some emails and I haven't heard back). The problem is the forums seem to be frozen in time. In 18th september 2013, to be more exact. No updates whatsoever, even the "latest articles" tab is stuck with the last update being september 17 2013. I can still post though! I can create new threads and reply to other threads, but it's like I'm all alone. Two things make this issue extremely strange. First: it seems I'm not the only one. There's another user by the name of ahappydude that created a topic titled "no thread since 18 sep? wth?" on october 2013. How am I posting this and you're reading? that's the second strange thing about this issue. The problem only exists on my desktop pc, I'm on a laptop (the same network, btw) and I can access the forums normally. Funny thing is I can't find that thread ahappydude created and I replied, it's like it exists in a different dimension! And my profile, if accessed through my laptop, mentione nothing about the topics I'm creating and replying, but if accessed on my desktop pc it does appears. I know the problem must be on my end, but I have no idea where to look at! I tried cleaning cache, cookies, using different browsers, running a DNSFLUSH command... nothing works. Do I call a priest to make an exorcism on my pc? Here's the link of the ghost topic (I can only access it through my desktop) http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/50375-No-new-thread-since-18-sep-wth
  14. I'm glad you people like it I'm actually surprised no one used this before, as I've seen radial decouplers being used even as the elastic of giant slingshots (Danny2462, probably lol) I did this rover in 2 minutes just to test the idea, if anyone makes something meaningful please share :]
  15. Hey, so I always thought the suspension on the rover wheels to be too little. Frequently I drive too fast over a small step or crater and burst my tires or, even worse, break the vehicle. I also realized, as many others already did, that radial decouplers have some flexibility in a specific axis, thus I decided to use this to make a rover suspension and it worked pretty well. I made a gif to show the effect by climbing the runway steps
  16. Interesting. I was expecting to see a Gaussian. edit: Ah, I see someone else found a problem
  17. This is a great idea! I've been bored with ksp for a while now so basically I'm just waiting for updated versions with something else for me to do. But making a one design for all is a hell of a challenge, it certainly sparkled that excitement feeling I had before. Your designs are great, by the way. And thanks for the inspiration
  18. Cute, but looks sad and thoughtful, as if thinking "why did it blow up? didn't I give you all the struts you wanted?" I don't know from where it is, and a google image search retrieved this exact avatar from this exact forum. And it was you! what are the odds...
  19. I've been there! Finding out how to get there, seeing it actually work and looking around was a very thrilling moment. But no, I have found nothing besides that weird rock. It might have more stuff eventually, as the game develops. I feel like I have to stop playing to save for later
  20. I don't think that's possible. That's probably the solution the developer found to make the world dynamic and eventful. If you visit the same location at different times you'll see different things <spoiler ahead> there's a planet collapsing on itself and you need to head there first thing on your mission if you want to read and see some of its parts. Also, I tried to get as far away from the sun as possible and it didn't work lol
  21. I find it so immersive that you control a person (alien), and not a ship or an invisible force that drives a population or something abstract like that. No, you're one person, in first person view, you get inside the spaceship, put on a suit, assume the driver's seat. It all really helps build immersion. We don't have spoiler tags here, do we? We could share findings
  22. Hey, I just found a pretty neat space exploration game (completely different from KSP), it's in very early stage of development but it shows so much promise! This game is so obscure, I haven't heard much from it anywhere, so I decided to throw a link over here where I know there's an audience for this sort of stuff http://alexbeachum.com/archives/258 THIS THREAD CONTAINS SPOILERS
