Well technically it is 12 since two of the tanks with the mainsail are still full. I also have 5, mostly full large, mono propellant tanks on the main engine as well. I used lots of struts, and then I had to put lauch stabilizer on the inner fuel tanks if you look carefully at the pic of it on the launch pad you can just make out the bottom of them. Other than that asparagus, asparagus, asparagus. I used asparagus staging from beginning to end. I had to limit throttle to 85% while the outer layer burns off or one of my fuel lines would always break but other than that it works great. I have used this main engine for both a Moho and an Eeloo mission. I will try and get into more detail tonight on this but I have to head off to work now.

This is just an update I am still putting together my ship. Only one more launch to go but with the long launch and part lag I can only do one launch and dock sequence a day. Will probably be friday before I get to the jool system. In any case. I have moved my album to here and updated the pics. I will migrate my album as I update pics and mission updates. I think you will find i have the largest main engines to date. Main engines launch mass of over 3500 T and docked mass of over 500 T

Ok Well this is my preliminary entry into the challenge. I am half way done putting together my multipart ship, for this mission. I wanted to post now since putting the ship together will require me to lower my graphics so these will be the last of the HD pics until I am at Jool. In the interest of full disclosure I am using two mods, [0.22] Enhanced Navball 1.2, found here, and [0.22][Release-2] City Lights and Clouds, found here. If you feel either of these disqualifies me I am fine with that. I was planing on doing the mission already when I ran across this thread and figured I might as well sign up. My mission Goals. 1. Fly my six part ship (six launches any way) to the jool system. 2. Drop probe deep into atmosphere and transmit data. 3. Land on all moons. 4. Leave flags on all moons. 5. Get science data from all moons. 6. Get soil sample from 3 moons. (Tylo, and two moons as yet to be determined) 7. Return all 8 crewmen safely to Kerbin. Below is my progress so far. Last pic shows the main hub/orbital science lab/prob +2 reusable non-Tylo moon landers.

BSC: Albatross 3 - And the winner is...
mcirish3 replied to Xeldrak's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Well Xeldrak, I don't know. I would be mad as heck about the results of this build off, when both second and third place are in violation of the rules. Usually when you treat people as adults they act like adults. That is how it usually is, however, in this case it would seem that nearly 50% of the voters are ignoring the rules. Not sure what methods you have for enforcement but might be time to tighten up the rules on the next challenge. They may call you a jerk but you can just point to this challenge and say, "sorry, you're the idiots who who spoiled it for everyone else". -

I also want to compliment Antbin, Gusturbo, and Octagon on their designs super cool craft but either did not fit well with this challenge or were to advance for a stock craft, of course that is my opinion. Sirine your craft is good looking and flies but has almost no maneuverability and ignores the some of the rules so can not recommend this as a stock craft at all. -

SO I tested Ensoku, the only finalist I had not flown. I wish I had flown it earlier since it is definitely on par with mine and the only finalist besides my own that fits with the spirit of the albatross and is flyable. (I know I am biased) So here is my compare with my own craft. I Know I am biased so take with a grain of salt. I will try to be unbiased. Ensoku is better looking than the Condor In many ways though it does not have the unique but stable curved wings of the Condor Ensoku has better yaw control than the Condor. Ensoku is smaller than the Condor. The Condor has much greater range than the Ensoku. The Condor utilizes the shuttle command pod. ( I know that is personal preference on my part.) The Condor Looks more like the original Albatross. The Ensoku has a way better description than the Condor. The Condor has 21km ceiling the Ensoku has about 18km (estimate did not have time to fly the Ensoku all the way up, could be hidden air intakes) The Condor looks like a bird Since I will not be voting for myself the Ensoku by Ekku Kakku will get my vote. -

We the current poll system you're using does have a multiple choice option, but I am guessing it wont let you limit the number to only 3-5 or something like that. Not sure it would still be that bad if people could just vote for the ones they like. Perhaps give it a go on the nest challenge and see how it works out for the preliminaries, and leave the finals as a single choice. -

UM????? yes it does at least the last craft file I submitted did. hmm. I also ran some fuel lines, to keep the COM less mobile. Also the flame out issue make me think you have an even earlier version than that one. If your version doesn't have a description you have a 2 version old craft. -

Thank You for the honorable mention. Just a comment on my own design. The three things things I thought most important for the winner of this challenge to have was long range, basic jets, and look similar to the albatross. I know I nailed the first two. and I think I did a good job on on the third. I felt that there should be a stock craft that utilized shuttle cockpit, and it would seem others thought the same. I am sure I have one of the largest craft in this competition, if not the largest. My logic was if I am going to scale up the cockpit I will need to scale up the rest of the craft as well, while making a more stable craft. By the way the curved wing design was inspired by watching a glider fly. Oh and also wanted to say nearly all the craft in this competition are par excellence and glad to have the chance to fly them. -

Updated craft with more science and some fuel lines for more stable long range flight. Oh and changed my signature to reflect what I have done since the release of 0.22 not that anyone actually cares. -

Well since my craft isn't a head line any more perhaps you should check it out. It most definitely is in the spirit of the original. It can however be easily controlled up to 3x physics warp and won't tear itself apart at 4x though not sure how you define controllable at 4x. Beside it has cool curved wings. One note: I do need to updated the craft file since I forgot to put a ladder on it. Edit:craft updated -

@ GusTurbo Man that is a cool craft not sure how I can compete with that. I love my craft but yours is so cool and I think would be a better stock craft the the current one though I don't think it should be called the Albatross any more if yours wins, I think something like Kerbliner would be better. -

Just a note: for the sake of openness and full disclosure. I want to state I have updated my craft file. I added a description to the craft and two action groups as well as 4 more air intakes. the net result is a craft that can easily fly around the globe. Also added a single pic of the changed craft highlighting the curve wings that are not readily apparent in the earlier photos I submitted. -

Here is my entry. the Condor SHe is a big bird but only a couple dozen more parts than the stock craft. I thought that at least one stock craft should take advantage of the large shuttle command pod so I chose to utilize it for this plane. Note: I made a couple minor changes to the craft while taking screen shots so you will see some minor differences in the craft from one shot to the next the last pick is a pick of my entry. Craft file here. -
BSC: Super-Heavy Lander - The next BSC will.....
mcirish3 replied to Xeldrak's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Doh, ya I guess that was a stupid question. I guess the discussion after the MK1 challenge lead straight to this challenge. I haven't seen any indications from from the post challenge chat indicating what the community wants to make so I Guess it is up to you do pick this time. -

KSP Test Pilot Endurance Relay race
mcirish3 replied to mcirish3's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Thank You, No biggie on the time, I had to do it that way also. Also no rules on which plane you use for a particular loop. You always have the option of doing the loop first and then the landing. Most pilot don't trust their piloting skills enough to do it that way, including myself, more power to you . You do have to land and read each flag and do the loops in order and switch aircraft at each flag reading. Good Luck! -

KSP Test Pilot Endurance Relay race
mcirish3 replied to mcirish3's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Below you will find my screenshots my full mission. I had 4 total crashes including my rover crash at the beginning. My MET is 2h 18min 35s + 20min penalty for crashes give a total of 2h 38min 35s. I should Note that the MET on you aircraft is not correct since some of the craft sat a very long time while I flew the other craft to their landing locations. Hence the rover at the start to record your time. -
KSP Test Pilot Endurance Relay race
mcirish3 replied to mcirish3's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Yes, isn't it for you? Did you crash on your landing? dont try and fly through the second loop with the plane at the Island it is too big. There is a much smaller one waiting near the second loop. Also these craft are fairly stable so physics warp is an option bellow 20km. If you crash land but your Pilot survives it is possible to walk to the next craft, of course at a 5min penalty. -

I will admit the loops are hard to hit. especialy the high Altititude ones. I hope to finish myself tonight. We will see. As far as the second flag it should be in the hanger on the Island runway not in the water. I hope you can fix it. I will check the master file and see if it where it is suppoed to be. the file I am using has it in the correct place and that is the one I uploaded so....? -
