  1. Today, I added several modules to my Munar research facility. Rendezvous was slightly more tedious because the station is on a retrograde 550km orbit. Which was intentional. I think.
  2. I agree with you, and I would rather skip ascent entirely, but out of habit I do not trust MechJeb to handle ascents particularly well with my spacecraft, so I must do it myself :/
  3. So lately I've been doing a lot of work on and around the mun, stations, mining, research, etc., and I'm curious to see if you guys have been doing the same. I'll share first Long range communications relay, orbiting at a halfway point between Kerbin and the Mun. Designation "Hermes". My current mining outpost, sporting 2 landers. Further construction cancelled due to high part count. Designation "Dromund Kaas". A remote research facility, held in high orbit. Right now they're studying the effects of food fights in an enclosed capsule. Designation "Seraph". So what have you all been up to?
  4. It sounds like this would be an MMO-style exchange/market. Would be difficult to implement, but I love the idea
  5. I laughed way too hard at the Xzibit reference. Fantastic job with all the SSTO's though
  6. A lovely internal view from my Research Facility in high orbit over the Mun-
  7. Yet another fantastic design! Also, was the music in that video Curtis Mayfield?
  8. I went way back and found some screenshots of a rather eccentric old lander design of mine. Yes, it's weird, but I think there are concepts you can apply to whatever you choose to build. This one's a bit different- You might say I went a bit nuts with the rovers, but having extras proved very useful. Also, notice the jet engines in the 2nd photo. The added weight is definitely worth it. The trick is to wait until you get very low into the atmosphere, and spool up the engines for a braking. You can then detach them upon ascent, and make use of the rocket fuel saved. The first photo also has drop tanks, or was supposed to originally. Very useful, I recommend that too. Good luck with your endeavor
  9. My gigantic LKO station, the Leviathan. Currently, 100+ Kerbals are stationed there. It is fully equipped with habitat modules, power generators, cargo holds, a mess hall, a fitness center, a space for return modules which my painfully low framerate prevents me from adding, and a large laboratory, self-sustaining and suspended on girders so that in the event of a catastrophic accident, the connection to the station can be severed and sepratrons are activated, sending the laboratory hurtling off into the infinite void, never to be seen again.
  10. So the new update has rendered all the previous lifters shared here obsolete. Have you guys come up with any new ones? I'll share mine first- it's a rather simple lifter designed to get my mun lander and its transfer stage into orbit. Yes, that is my flag in the background. Yes, that is a lion hawk.
  11. My 0.21 Stock Falcon 9 replica. Not 100% accurate but as close as I could make it with stock parts and still have it orbit capable.
  12. In addition to what Vanamonde says, also try to design your ships with the engines farther forward so that the ship is being pulled rather than pushed. It greatly increases the stability.
  13. My latest design, the "Dragonfly" VTOL: It took several hours, but I managed to perfectly center the craft. She's got an operational ceiling of around 12 km, and she can easily cross the planet with fuel to spare. Not only that, but it's tweaked so that you can land at a moment's notice.
  14. Here's my contribution - a drydock for incoming ships. I was aiming for something more Star Trek style, but anything more complex would be a pain to get into orbit. It's 100% stock, by the way. Here's a picture of it sitting in orbit- Download - https://www.dropbox.com/s/q3jxcnronbuzoj2/Drydock.craft
  15. It looks like some kind of bird of prey, i.e. Falcon, Hawk, Eagle, etc., so maybe one of those.
  16. Whoops, forgot about that. If a forum mod comes along, could they please move this to the correct section?
  17. I'm interested to see if it's possible to build something similar to the Heart of Gold, a ship from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books. If you aren't familiar with it, here is a picture: If I remember correctly the book describes it as shaped like a tennis shoe, but I suppose either design works. Here are some guidelines for the challenge, should you choose to accept it - 1- The ship does not need to be capable of reaching orbit, because something like that would be very, very difficult. 2- The ship must look somewhat similar to the one pictured above or the one described in the book. BONUS CHALLENGE- Incorporate the Infinite Improbability Drive into the vessel's design. Have fun!
  18. That ship looks awesome, good luck on your mission
  19. 81- NASA does not exist on a planet where the only life exists in a small research laboratory, and astronauts are more or less cloned for use. 82- We launch nuclear projectiles into the sun to "see what happens" 83- There is nothing else in the universe other than an absurdly small star system with absurdly small planets and absurd aerodynamics. 84- We design massive warships to defend ourselves from the wrath of the Magic Boulder.
  20. Taco Industries would like to present its first contribution to Project BABYLON. This is a heavy duty, 1 kerbal drop pod utility, rated for landing in extreme conditions, and at velocities of up to 50 m/s. This vehicle has undergone rigorous testing on Kerbin, Laythe, Duna, Jool, and even Eve and performed perfectly in each situation. Each drop pod comes pre-equipped with a de-orbit stage, as well as full RCS and SAS capabilities. During reentry, the pod makes use of a heat shield, which both protects the pod and slows the descent safely before deploying the parachutes and landing gear. Below, you will find the .craft file and a gallery of its most recent test on Laythe. Gallery: http://imgur.com/a/5sveS#0 DOWNLOAD: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nn3ir5f5z0yj0t5/Atmo%20Drop%20Pod.craft
  21. I think at that point the two civilizations would have reached a level of technology at which they had the ability to manipulate the universe itself for their needs, as if it was merely putty. I can't imagine what kind of weaponized uses that could take, or who could be stupid enough to piss those people off.
  22. After another crippling series of lawsuits and criminal investigations, Taco Industries is back on its feet and is proud to present its newest product: The Taco Industries Basic Space Station. Think we're lying? THINK AGAIN. Gallery: http://imgur.com/a/GARny#0 Packed with plenty of RCS and some fuel tanks for refueling, this station is perfect for any quick flyby. It is also 100% self-sustaining, with 4 large solar panels and 4 RTGs for night time use. It even comes with space for an onboard crew of up to six kerbals. You can dock from either side of the station, because it includes 2 HOC-standard docking clamps. Below are some stats: Weight: 15ish tons Part count: 39 DOWNLOAD: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mtqvehn7y98p0m6/Basic%20Space%20Station.craft Too lazy to click the imgur gallery? We understand. Here's a picture.
