New nasa space module nears testing phase
3_bit replied to Kruleworld's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Huh. I do recall hearing it was made elsewhere... -
Unanswered Question about chemical rockets.
3_bit replied to bradley101's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The reason it goes to 108% and they didn't just make that the new 100% is due to the launch profiles and other technicalities they didn't want to bother with. -
New nasa space module nears testing phase
3_bit replied to Kruleworld's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It's not the same as Apollo, though. The capsule itsself is manufactured outside of the US, which kinda ruins the patriotism some of the older missions brought. Not to mention the cancellation of the Constellation project. I do hope that they find some good uses for the ship, though. -
Yea, I lost mine... It would be awesome if they made KSP compatible with an Apollo Guidance Computer replica, or if someone actually made one intended for KSP. Food for thought, DIYers.

Who can say? As with many things, only time can tell. It could be a scam, stating it is or is not is pure speculation on our part as of now. I sincerely hope it isn't, though.

Why are so many people opposed to nuclear energy?
3_bit replied to Skyler4856's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I imagine it's simply because it's not reusable, and it has a poor history. I must state that we have taken long strides in safety, and incidents like Chernobyl happened because the core was operated outside normal parameters, when they removed more control rods than the recommended minimum. Not to mention technical failures of supporting equipment, critically being the intercom between the fresh water cooling pump control room and the reactor's control room. -

Flooding? I hope you intend to flood us with amazing creations and contributions! Regarding signatures, I really have no idea but my guess would be 5, maybe 15 posts. Welcome to the forums!

What got you interested in THE SCIENCE in the first place?
3_bit replied to Agent86's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Tough question for me.... It's really just the appeal of finding out the unknown. I prefer the robotics aspect and my Mom got me a VEX robotics system when I was nine. I never did do much with it, but it did teach me quite a bit. Not to mention computers, something I'm quite interested, specifically the vintage 70's-80's era ones. To understand how simple these complex machines we view the forums on here today is quite compelling, knowing that most people see it as some form of magic. -
It all really depends on how often you're using it and what maintenance costs are, turnaround time, etc. The Proton rocket is still in use today after several iterations, because it's reliable and fairly cheap. The fact that it's practically as mass-produced as a rocket can be is why it is this way. Now if we could mass-produce reusable rockets, then you'd have yourself a multi-billion dollar industry, as well as revolutionizing space travel as we know it.

P.1000 Ratte (Back and bigger than ever!)

Any tips on tuning the LAG forcefield? I heard setting physics to 4x may work, but will also void the warranty. -
I like Premiere Pro. I used Elements after using Pro in school, and elements lacks a lot of features pro has. The most critical to me being that you can make custom titles. As far as I see it, Elements is similar to iMovie, but is slightly superior in some aspects.

Scratch Space Program: A Game that i'll be working on.
3_bit replied to Sylandro's topic in The Lounge
-the sun should be called Zeus -Preliminary ships should be one-part, for a basic physics engine test. -Might I suggest capping stages at 10 for now, or else you'll have a large number of program calls and loops that go on and on and on -I really don't know how to have infinite instances of an entity, I worked with an old version of Scratch that was win-98 compatible back a few years back. I wrote 2 star trek themed games on it. -I might suggest making tanks have variable size, one-size parts only, no "fuel flow" system for now. This way, you can have a simple formula decide weight and fuel. -Don't bother with Oxidizer and Liquid fuel. It's not worth the complexity at this stage. Besides, it is another variable and a few extra hours of unnecessary work away to make it worthwhile. -If you want to make a more public Scratch account I'd be glad to collaborate. What I think you really need is someone who's good with graphics, especially vectored. All of my sprites look like garbage. -I suggest using a simple selection of parts (decoupler, engine, fuel tank, capsule) to start, with no debris. I guess you could implement the complex .cfg and attachment node system KSP uses later, allowing anyone to make parts. -I made an evil game in scratch, where you drive around in a street cleaner running over children. I made a basic AI system where if you get too close, they'll turn opposite you and run. Nice to see you're reading this far. I have some other ideas, but I'm a bit distracted. If you have any questions feel free to ask. -

It's actually designed (according to the site) for kindergartners, but is quite expandable and versatile. It's real easy, and I picked it up with absolutely no tutorials and made a few little games with ease. I would link, but my username there is very similar to one of my main passwords. Anyhow, It's the easiest programming tool you'll ever use. I used it for some school assignments in Social Studies, making an interactive Native American history display. -

I might suggest that non-fuel entities have 5 variables on them: X,Y,Rotation,Where it's going (direction), and how fast it's going there. I was quite an avid scratcher back when I was younger. I can only hope to see how you implement any form of physics (might I suggest the first releases are Atmosphereless planets only?). If I were you, I'd look to the formulas scientists use and implement similar ones. -
What would happen to this community if pewdiepie played KSP?
3_bit replied to notfruit's topic in The Lounge
I would leave the community. It's a bit big for my liking, and if it gets as big as it might with his subs, we'd have over 100 mods, threads being on page 2 within hours of creation, and no more nice formality and those users (I'm talking to you, Mr. Temporal Ambassador and whoever has the Doctor Who Avatar) that you find on most interesting pages. On other forums, I've seen threads moved, no post from said mod, nor PM. Not only that, but I'd wager Squad's servers wouldn't last 10 hours from him posting said video. -
This insignificant little blue marble called Earth, in a galaxy named after a chocolate bar.

I swapped out my Aurora LX for an LN. Sadly I now realize how ugly the paint job is. I really don't mind, I'll just hope that they allow custom paint jobs in the future. Maybe it'll void my warranty, and/or my LTI won't cover it.
-
Well, It turns out Squad was experimenting with virtual reality, and plugged in the headset wrong when having KSP loaded. This resulted in Jeb and his rocket spawning in real life, which Jeb was flying and crashed into the servers. This is often regarded as speculation.

Man, Mine has a 4 GB HDD. I have no idea what GPU you're talking about, but I wasn't into gaming and high-end hardware those days. On the contrary I mostly played Gameboy Color games.

Scratch Space Program: A Game that i'll be working on.
3_bit replied to Sylandro's topic in The Lounge
I can't wait to see how you implement it. I used to make some simple little games in Scratch back in 2009-2010. I definitely want to have a peek at what's under the hood. A few months ago I took a stab at it and never got off the ground on making multiple stages, much less aerodynamics. -
I've got an Aptiva E2N with -AMD K6 2/266 processor with 3DNow! Technology -32 Megs of DRAM -512KB L2 Pipeline Burst Cache -56K Modem -2 MB Graphics Ram -ATI Rage Pro Turbo AGP Graphics Let's see if you don't have a system lower-spec than mine. Oh, and if you do, I have a 32KB Von Neumann memory architecture Cosmac Elf Membership Card clocking 2.1 Mhz.' What do you have that's older/lower-spec?

The biggest problem is that we can't all have a nice, sit-down discussion about all of these things where we all bring our facts, and are equally represented, and get a legitimate solution that's cost-effective. For example, did you know that humans and our creations output only a fraction of the CO2 in our atmosphere? It turns out Volcanos are the biggest producer.

Yes. Guaranteed. Chances are some private company will go, and if not due to us being wiped out from nuclear war, I'm sure some of the molecules that were a part of us would make it.
