You Will Not Go To Space Today - Post your fails here!
Pyromaniacal replied to Mastodon's topic in KSP1 Discussion
No pictures, sorry. I spent 2 hours trying to get a set of solar arrays up to my new space station. I decided that I wanted to haul them up separately so as to reduce drag. After trying to latch on with the magnetic clamp on my KAS outfitted RCS tug for the aforementioned 2 hours, I redocked the tug and deorbited the arrays. I not only have to redesign the arrays with a Jr. docking clamp on the end and a way to remove that clamp after attachment, but I also have to redesign the RCS tug, because I think I installed the KAS clamp wrong. Either way, it'd be a good idea. I'll tackle that tomorrow. -
[1.3.1] Ferram Aerospace Research: v0.15.9.1 "Liepmann" 4/2/18
Pyromaniacal replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I ran the flight again, and this time managed to get it into orbit. It's sitting at a 100x115km orbit, but I ran a few tests on reentry into Kerbin and found the glider doesn't like to keep a steady flight path in the thick Kerbin atmosphere. Would Duna be any different, or should I scrap this particular project? Yes, you were correct in assuming the CoL and CoM were for the glider only. It took some shenanigans, but I did get the CoL behind the CoM, if only just barely.- 14,073 replies

The probe itself likes to flop about uselessly in orbit too. I'm curious to see if this will help with that. CoM, CoT and CoL all line up.- 14,073 replies

[1.3.1] Ferram Aerospace Research: v0.15.9.1 "Liepmann" 4/2/18

I am not sure whether or not I should use this addon. I want to put a Xenon powered flight probe on Duna, just to see if I can. It may or may not be an idea from a Youtube video. The problem is that I can't manage to get the craft out of Kerbin's atmosphere. The launch vehicles, whether spaceplane or rocket, flip spasmodically and fall victim to "Spontaneous Disassembly Syndrome". Is this a mod that can correct these odd behaviors?- 14,073 replies

I figured it out. It works, too. I put the B9 stock fighter jet into a Münar encounter with it. See? This is ridiculous.

I am kinda confused on how to install this. Do I just extract it to gamedata? Do i even need to download Kerbtown? Gonna experiment for now until I get a reply.
-
I got it to work!! Freaking GIMP... I'll learn your secrets someday... New skybox is pretty! Bob in his snazzy new spacesuit!! I swiped the suit from Levelord and modified it, follow the link for teh creditz!!!

I feel as if I have done something wrong. I edited the PNG file that came from the DDS file which was a tex from sharedassets0. I placed it in the Kerbals folder of the Universereplacer folder in the Gamedata section. The PNG is called EVAHelmet1 in accordance with the texture list file in the addon. I loaded up the game, and I still have the vanilla helmet texture. What do?

Thanks for the help, now if I can just do this without it looking terrible...
-
I'm sure that this has already been covered, but there are a cubic grunch ton of pages to this and I don't have the patience to read through all thousand or so posts. Is there anyone that is taking requests for EVA and IVA helmets? So far, that is the only thing I want a custom replacement for. The suits are fine as they are, and I can find a good skybox from what is already set up. Thanks for the help! EDIT: I found the post that explains how to extract the files from the asset file, and I have attempted to alter the files, however I don't have any programs that can handle a dds file. I don't have the money for photoshop, and I wouldn't want to buy it just to use it on one aspect of a single game. Thanks again!

The kraken got in vab! Help!
Pyromaniacal replied to MrPopcup's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I think the VAB did that because you had the rover on it's side when you placed that. I have no idea how to undo that, you might want to try removing that one part you're trying to put the tanks on, and replace it in that orientation. -

This was a fuel tank I needed to dock to my fueling station. Was. I'm good at creating debris showers... -
I`ve hit a brick wall.
Pyromaniacal replied to Fishoo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I was actually about to recommend the Zenith Rocket family. Failing any of those, he has the Supernova, capable of lifting 150 tons to LKO. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/28409-0-19-1-Supernova-SHLLV-160-tons-to-LKO -
Fuel transfer while on the Mun's surface.
Pyromaniacal replied to Valley's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Playing stock, I can't think of an easy, effective way to refuel ships from a Münar station. If you wanted to remain stock, I would recommend using an orbiting fuel station around Kerbin, as this would be the easiest place to rendezvous with after launch. Not using stock, one of the easiest ways to transfer fuel would be using the Kerbal Attachment System, or KAS. ( http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/0-18-2-kas-kerbal-attachment-system-v0-1/ ) This allows various clamps, ports, plugs, or electromagnets to "dock" 2 ships together and allow the transfer of resources. If you wanted to use a different system that has no connections whatsoever and just kinda "beams" the fuel to another craft, you could use the Lazor System. ( http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/9923-0-21-Lazor-System-v29-%28Jul-26%29?highlight=resource+transfer ). This includes several different useful things including docking cameras, resource transfer, guided flight, interplanetary transfer systems, and various weapons. A final option is the Infernal Robotics system. ( https://github.com/sirkut/InfernalRobotics for download) This uses a series of joints, elbows, hinges, and rotation joints to allow you to move a docking port into position to dock with a F-Rover. This does not solve the issue of getting fuel to the Mün. Not using stock for the fuel issue, the best one I can think of is Kethane. ( http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/23979-Kethane-Pack-0-7-3-Geodesic-grid-overlay-%28hex-map%29-and-other-scanning-improvements! ) This is a system that allows you to find deposits of Kethane, convert it to fuel, and send it where necessary. Hope this helps! -
I just ran a series of test launches and discovered that there is effectively no difference. Both add the same things, and are incapable of launching on their own, without any pods. The only control pod type thing that does NOT have the SAS controls is the Torture Chair, and that craft would have to have a manned pod attached in order to fill the seat. The only differences are the IAS has extra mass, and cosmetic differences. Anyone else find anything different?
-
Prior to 0.21, there was a clear cut difference between the two. The S.A.S. worked as a supplement to the A.S.A.S.. Now that the new version is out, what is the difference between the two? The IAS has an additional .2 mass on the IRW, while both use the same amount of electricity and produce the same amount of torque in all directions. I will be running some tests of my own to determine the differences, but I would like input from others, and what they have found. Thanks for the help!
