Is Physics warp on?

Amphibious VTOLSSTO (Image heavy)
Pyromaniacal replied to Levelord's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I don't know if it's my skill level, or if the Kethane rig is just not up to the task, but I can't get it to go to Mün in an effective way. I have tried adding drop tanks to supplement the liquid fuel, I have tried swapping tanks with dedicated fuselage parts, I have tried trading for lighter or more fuel efficient engines, nothing I do will get the craft to Mün in one shot while maintaining the SSTO designation. Has anyone else tried this variant out? -
Best name ever.

Give it one thing, the glide profile is phenomenal. An aerobrake, and a splashdown at 25m/s and some of the ship (Including Kimer) survived. -

Here's a shot of the Kethane rig in LKO. You can see where I added in 4 dedicated liquid fuel tanks, that were ultimately unnecessary. The first time I tried getting her out of atmo, she fought me a bit, and didn't make it. I followed the directions on the last page to the letter, and never left atmosphere. I added those tanks on, and used a more aggressive approach when I lit off the 909's. I also kept the turbojets burning until I lost all intake air, since I knew having the engines inline wouldn't send me into a flatspin. I made it into a 87km X 86km orbit with about 360 units of liquid fuel left. If that isn't enough to get me to Mün to refuel, then oops. I may need to make a different fuel bus. EDIT: Fun fact: It was not. Gonna try to bring Kimer home. -
Here's one. The Kassandra OFD finally assembled. Launched in 2 parts, has the B9 pack red lights around the docking ports so I can see what I'm doing if I end up docking at night. Used strut guns from the Quantum Struts pack to help get rid of any wobbly. I lined them up ahead of time in the VAB, but I'm still glad that they lined up as well as they did. Here's a shot with the heavy tug I used to get it off the ground. I put too many RCS ports on the arms, so when I tried maneuvering it into place, it handled like a drunken Gedd. Glad I put the RCS reserves in the Habitation module and could use it to dock. Otherwise things would have been bad.

[0.19.1] Supernova SHLLV - 160 tons to LKO
Pyromaniacal replied to Temstar's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I just found this lifter after cutting my payload down to the 100 ton window that the Nova has. I feel dumb. -

Lifted my heavy tug KSS KASSANDRA and the fuel storage manifold for my fuel depot. An important note, the outside tanks are empty. If they weren't, the payload would have weighed 155 tons, and PhysX wouldn't let me do the SRB thing above. Here's a shot of her in orbit. And on the night side. I put the small red lights from B9 Aerospace around the docking ports for some low profile docking guides for night time operations. Temstar, these launchers are great! Sonofacrap, I just finished wrestling this thing up, and never thought to see if the Supernova had been released yet! I suck! -

The Wayland Corporation Pegasus X2 aerobraking after dropping off 2 DEMV Mk 4s on the Mün. No real reason for the aerobrake, just really pretty. All credit for the Pegasus goes to Devogen of Wayland Corporation. (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/24677-%280-19-1%29-Wayland-Corp-Development-and-released-download-Thread) Wow, that's shiny! -
That last one is damn sexy.

Here's a thought I should have asked a while ago, I haven't used the kethane rig yet as my depot isn't finished yet. Does the rig have a converter or will I have to put one on the station? -

Your computer weeping may not be the problem. PhysX is rather limited too. My PC can do insane things, and there's still the aforementioned weeping when my part counts get too high. Launching the MOLAB was a bitchandahalf, and that's with a nVidia580, an i7, and 24Gb of RAM. -
I figured it out. I had a DEMV EX cockpit on the roof of the VAB after ejecting Kirk Kerman on to it in a fit of silly. I ended that one and everything is g2g now.
-
I have the Demv mk 2,4,and EX, but no mk 3 or sfr's plugin.

...I need to go change my pants... -
I did just install KSPX and the latest of the B9 Aerospace pack. The cockpit in this one is a KSPX one so that may be the issue.

So here's an odd thing. I was looking at designs for my Fuel Depot, making sure the strut guns would attach properly once I got the tanks into orbit. I hit the launch button with a test structure, when this happened. Here's a better angle. It appears to be the IVA generated for the pod I'm using, but generated outside. From the back. I... I don't even...

My Eve rover and the combination Deorbit/skycrane stage. That heatshield was a bitchandahalf to get out of atmosphere. The Nova SHLLV (all stock, kudos to Temstar, http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/24787-0-19-1-Zenith-rocket-family ) center stage on reentry. -
This is my first rover on another planet! Eve was the natural choice since everyone else went to Duna. Figured I'd show Eve some love! Here's the rover next to the wreckage of the skycrane. Got a spectacular reentry shot too! By the way, she needs a name. She came all the way from Kerbin as "Eve Mission." Any ideas?

Ah! Many thanks, Level! I was looking for a way to get fuel refills from Mün to a fuel depot, and none of my converters seemed to work for me! I will have to try this and keep this in mind!
