Well, they could always take a page from SLS’s book… if they get all the way to clamp release, it’s a launch. Otherwise it was just a static fire. Totally planned it that way. -
Design it so the fussy bits survive reentry (not all that difficult), then very deliberately drop it at Point Nemo in the South Pacific where said bits end up under kilometers of water. Really and truly the best way to dispose of nuclear waste.

Big storm blew through like a ton o' bricks last night, whole island is without power, even big chunks of the mainland are still dark. Thanks to Starlink and Kohler, I can still post this. Went outside last night to find this big-S tree branch blocking the whole road into the neighborhood, so being neighborly, we decided to clear it. Just goes to show, if you have an orange tractor, a day-glo-green jacket and act like you know what you're doing, no one will question you. Because no one else is stupid enough to be out in this excrement clearing trees yet.

Quite. Remember, FH was first conceived before reuse was even really considered for Falcon 9. It just got lapped in the process, which really speaks to just how much dang performance SpaceX has squeezed from the ‘9. Does mean we can be pretty sure of no Superheavy Heavy though. -

Trouble is, Falcon 9 has just improved so much that it’s eaten most of FH’s lunch, even with booster reuse. All that’s really left for FH is missions like this that go all the way to GEO (not just a transfer orbit), and the rare high-energy thing like Psyche. Even then, the only way to really maximize FH’s capability is to expend the center core, which we know SX hates. Trying to recover it at all is really riding the ragged edge of what it can survive. -

This is actually a problem for the ISS. It's inclination is high enough that it has "high beta periods" where it's in direct sunlight for too much of its orbit and keeping it cool becomes challenging. -

Nah, just glue some bricks to his shoes, you’re all good. Couldn’t do any worse than the other fools on the road these days. -

Do you want to summon the Kraken? Because that’s literally how you summon the Kraken… maybe if it brings a Giant Meteor along too… Better name: I… don’t think so. And I don’t have much to back that up, but I could swear I saw a thing in the lead up to Demo 2 detailing the 8 or so abort modes that said otherwise. Some of the late-flight modes call for multiple SuperDrake burns, both prograde and retrograde to hit the right target. I think maybe that burst disc is just a replacement for the “master valve” that allows fuel into the system, there’s other valve down the line for actually controlling the engines. The aborts call for some pretty specific targeting, so they’ve gotta at least be able to stop the engines under control even if they can’t re-light them. Anyways, here’s the best I could find. It does mention a “series” of SuperDrake burns during Mode 2a: https://www.nasaspaceflight.com/2020/05/examining-crew-dragons-launch-abort-modes-and-splashdown-locations/ -
Heh, first footprints on Mars may be from a robot.

Elon gonna Elon. But Shotwell is says it will work, and I’ll take her word until I have concrete reason not to. -
RP-1 Realistic Progression One for KSP 1.12.3
CatastrophicFailure replied to pap1723's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Hey guys, dumb, and (hopefully) quick question here: I'm just to the point in my progression where I'm getting to EVAs, only the EVA doesn't have nitrogen or apparently any RCS? Yes, he's got a jetpack & chute. Added N2 tank to the craft, filled it with N2... but it completely disappears when an EVA leaves, even though it's more than one Kerbal's worth. The tech tree has thrown me plenty of curves so far, am I just missing something painfully obvious here? -

Heh, why am I not surprised? But you’ll fit right in around here.
