Parachute Cut at <0.5m/s?
BostLabs replied to Diazo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
You are not going to like this answer. My apologies in advance. You did make a mistake. The chute cutting off like that, for that set of circumstances, has always happened. It's not random. as the game cannot do rope or cloth physics the only thing left, other than detach (go away), is for it to stick up in the air like a ballon. That would look very silly. i guess it could do part of its billowing animation. But what Does it do when you are going up? Go back to drogue mode? here is another option. You have coding skills (I really want to try your mod). Make a better parachute. -

that is what I do. or you could have a second chute. -
Parachute Cut at <0.5m/s?
BostLabs replied to Diazo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
At zero or a positive increase will cause the chute to deflate and fold. It is cut to avoid all those nasties that I mentioned. (Well it is cut because the game can't collapse the chute and ropes on top of your ship or have it flutter around. The game engine does not support it from what I understand.) What I'm suggesting is that if you had watched your vertical speed indicator more closely you could have seen that was going to happen and either cut your throttle or decrease it to avoid your chute going away. i almost had that happen to me last night. (Never talk to your wife and fly at the same time). I did catch it in time to avoid the chute from being cut. also, the games does not do rope physics. -
Parachute Cut at <0.5m/s?
BostLabs replied to Diazo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Chute can tangle/get hung up and not be able to deploy. Chute catches fire from rocket. Chute gets ripped to shreds from high speed exhaust. the result of all of that is a crater. . Unless you learn throttle control. -
Asteroid (Belt) / Comet in the Solar System
BostLabs replied to Kaibear's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
You guys should probably take a look at the What not to suggest list. It is a stickie in this forum. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/36863-What-not-to-suggest there are a couple of mods that do add asteroids. -
you know, most people would just say 'Oh well' and revert flight. You inspire me, Whack.

That is good information. But KSP is not in beta. The game is still in Alpha stage and under development. Beta is where the software has all of it's planned features working. KSP is no where near that yet.

First time landing on the Mun manually in a very long time!
BostLabs replied to Evenger14's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
Oh I'm right there with you Evenger14. It has been quite sometime since I did a manual landing. but, Behold! Jeb is there, out of fuel (and I mean he burnt the last bit of fuel a few meters above the ground. The landing gear absorbed a bit of impact), darkside, no orbit, burn right in and plop! (that was not the plan at all.) He has a itty bitty bit of power. Managed to get some SCIENCE off to Kerbin. No way home, but he seems happy. Hopefully I have enough points to get the next tier which I think has a can he can ride in. Bill, you're up. Edit: Crud, no two man can. Ok, time to improvise. Jeb must come home. -
I try to protect the goo just like. I protect my Kerbals. I was a bit upset last night when my goo escaped into the ocean. Very rude of it.

I am disappointed that there is no science in Sandbox mode
BostLabs replied to johnnyhandsome's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I am not opposed to the idea, but what use is the points when everything is unlocked? I am am not interested in a leaderboard or high scores in a sandbox where it can easily be modified via a text editor. I'd rather this be left to a mod maker to implement so it can used only by the users that desire such things. -
I am disappointed that there is no science in Sandbox mode
BostLabs replied to johnnyhandsome's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I had a chance to play career for a bit last night. My thoughts is we got what the Devs told us we were going to get. A start to career mode. Tweaking as we go along I expect will happen. -
Oh heck yes!!! Ive been keeping an eye out for that bugger.

You have silly calculations? I doubt the validity of silly calculations. I want to inspect your SC certifications, sir. -

BostLabs replied to Evenger14's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
First: congrats! That is my mission tonight. No MJ, just me. Second: I see a lot of things in that picture. The one thing I don't see is a engine. Didn't fall off? -
I am disappointed that there is no science in Sandbox mode
BostLabs replied to johnnyhandsome's topic in KSP1 Discussion
(Head scratch). Are you wanting the science points for a pseudo high score for bragging rights? Not my thing in sandbox mode, but whatever. I'm not competing against anyone in the sandbox. But, I'll would guess it could be something that you could enable via the config file. -
Millenium Falcon - hopefully the final buildup

All you need now is Kessel. -

BostLabs replied to johnnyhandsome's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I think I have 5 now. Well, that is not quite right. I have 5 different versions of the game with a couple of saves within them. I can can trim that a bit once I finish the current Beagle Flight story. -
. He wasn't trying to be rude. He was suggesting that the awareness described might be shocking to your understanding on how things work. that is the problem with the written word on a forum. One can color a paragraph with their mindset. You were expecting hostility so that is how you read it. I, on the other hand, didn't read it that way. Perhaps you need to clear your expectations a bit before you try to read something. There are facts that have to be accepted. The physical world has facts like that. No matter how much you flap your bare arms, you are never going to be able to fly like that. That is a fact you have to accept. No ifs, no ands, no buts. Sorry, but that is life. I thought his side of the conversation was well thought out. He even thanked you for the thought provoking conversation. I would not say he was being hostile at all. But we get out what we want to see/hear from a conversation sometime if we are not watchful of our own mindset. You could take this conversation and think I'm being hostile. I assure you that I am not. have a a good day.

Jool Y U no GROUND?
BostLabs replied to Tidus Klein's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Your rover was crushed due to pressure. There probably is a solid surface down there (maybe not in the game, but in the way that gas giants are IRL), but it isn't something that you could call ground and be able to rover about on it. -
Power generation?
BostLabs replied to Kosmic Debris's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Well it appears that NASA is still shutdown so their website is down too (damn silly that). So I cannot get some data to back this. Guys, solar panels took a while to show up in our own space program. Stands to reason that they should take a while to show up in KSP as well. -
No bug. You need to do some SCIENCE and then do some research before you can fly very far.
