Proper Fairings ASAP
GusTurbo replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Fairing separation isn't really supposed to occur in thick atmosphere. The whole point is that they separate after the thick atmosphere's effects are no longer a factor. -
Version: 1.0.2.842 Attaching boosters by their nose cones will break normal fuel flow rules. Fuel will flow outward through the decouplers. Originally posted about in this thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/118597-Decouplers-nose-cones-now-do-crossfeed See video below for a demonstration of this effect: Re-creation steps: Create a core stage and attach radial decouplers. Radially attach nose cones to the decouplers. Then, add fuel tanks and engines below the nose cones. The outer stages will draw fuel from the core, across the decouplers (which are not crossfeed compatible). If you attach the fuel tanks to the radial decouplers, fuel will not flow across them (the correct behavior).

Version: 1.0.2.842 Parts covered by fairings cannot be properly duplicated using symmetry. I have created a video demonstration of this effect. As you an see, the fairing will only be on the original part, not the duplicates created by symmetry. I show the workaround in the video (which is also found in this post: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/43086-Open-Source-Construction-Techniques-for-Craft-Aesthetics?p=1880822&viewfull=1#post1880822), which is that you have to create a subassembly of the fairing-covered part, and place each additional part one-by-one. Re-creation steps: Create a core stage out of fuel tanks. Radially attach fuel tanks to the core. Add a fairing of any size and shape to the radially attached part. Take the radially attached part and activate symmetry, then place the part back on the core.

Yeah, this is a serious problem. This game has no reason NOT to be colorblind-friendly.

While using the new fairings as interstages, I've discovered that engines cannot seem to fire from within the interstage on staging. They give an error that says "[Engine] cannot activate while stowed." Here's a screenshot: In this picture, there is a Skipper located within that conical fairing section. Re-creation steps: Build an upper stage, place a decoupler under the engine, then place a fairing base under the decoupler. Close the fairing on the upper stage, creating an interstage fairing. Try to decouple the upper stage and fire the engine. The engine will not activate, and it displays the error above. This is obviously a problem, because it makes interstage fairings useless. An example of such an interstage is the one between the S-II and S-IVB stages on the Saturn V. Here's a link to my bug report thread on this issue:http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/117109-Engine-cannot-activate-while-stowed

Decouplers + nose cones now do crossfeed?
GusTurbo replied to Psycho_zs's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I think you're onto something. I was trying to make a Soyuz replica, and I had attached the nose cones to the decouplers to be more like the real thing. I couldn't figure out why the boosters were taking all the fuel from the core. If this hasn't been posted in the Support forum, it should be -- it'll be a confirmed bug quickly. My craft here: -
Are fairings useless?
GusTurbo replied to zarincos's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Well that doesn't seem right. -
Proper Fairings ASAP
GusTurbo replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Consider that some players spend a lot of time designing and building, and attention to detail is important to them. For these players, not being able to build things a certain way is very important because it constrains designs. -
Fix Vals face in the 'start game' screen
GusTurbo replied to r4pt0r's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I think the slight smiles are a trick of perspective because of their cylindrical heads. Val's head is angled away from the camera, causing an apparent frown. -
Engine "cannot activate while stowed"
GusTurbo replied to GusTurbo's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Welp. I guess we gave to live with this for 2+ months now. -
Add an interstage fairing closure
GusTurbo replied to stardestroyer's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
You actually can make interstage fairings. You mouse over the part above your fairing base and it should give you an option to close the fairing. They currently don't work right though: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/117109-Engine-cannot-activate-while-stowed What would be nice is the ability to make fairings open ended. -
A more intuitive tech tree
GusTurbo replied to CaptainKipard's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Definitely agree that the tech tree needs an overhaul. I don't understand the "rockets first" reasoning. If people want to jump in and build rockets, they can play sandbox. Career doesn't feel like a progression at all, it just feels like randomly unlocking parts.
