Why doesn't Tylo have an atmosphere?
quantumpion replied to ThesaurusRex's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Titan has a thick atmosphere while Ganymede does not although they are about the same mass :/ -

Also the probe cores have differing amounts of torque as well. The ones higher up on the science ladder have more torque.

Two stage lander can, 900 d/v in descent stage, 1500+ dV in ascent stage. Uses one large radial RCS tank stuck under the lander can, and one small fuel tank with LV-909 for descent stage. Descent stage surrounded by 4 mat science bays and 4 goo cans. The parts overlap a bit but part clipping was not used. I think this really matches the aesthetics and functionality of Apollo with only stock parts and nothing too complicated. Also it's narrow enough to fit within a 2.5m->3.75m conical fairing under the CSM with a 3.75m S-IVB third stage.

Testing Parts in Flight
quantumpion replied to MidwestB's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Correct, I got a contract to test the engine but no contract to test the tank, and did not have it unlocked in the tree. But the contract paid like 130 science so I just did it anyway. -

Note that you can stage the engine even if it is out of fuel. Just drag it into the next stage and activate. This is how I completed the test of the ion engine before I had access to xenon tanks -
[1.3.0] Kerbal Engineer Redux 1.1.3.0 (2017-05-28)

Why does the new version not include the features from Padishar's DLL, i.e. surface biomes, etc? -
I wasn't going to until I saw how difficult some of the contract requirements were. Do X between 300 and 400 m/s between 9000 and 10000m? Yeah I'm going to revert a couple times to get that one...
-
I hope there are certain contracts with no time limit, otherwise fancy low-consumption tours which can take many years would be unfeasible.

Procedural fairings really helps make otherwise stock look the part: -
Delta v maps are crazy!
quantumpion replied to StarBRA's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If that were not true it would violate conservation of energy. Think about the transfer orbit between Kerbin-altitude and Eve-altitude. The velocity at Pe and Ap has to be the same regardless of which direction you are going. -
Interesting results. It looks almost perfect except the gimbals move too fast. Is there a way to limit the max gimbal speed to look and feel a bit more realistic?

So how do you guys think the budget system will work in 0.24? Will you have finite dollars to work with on individual missions, such that if you have a mission failure you have to go back to easier, lower cost missions? Or will budget be like science points and never lost - completing contracts simply grants a higher budget allowance?

Nuclear fuel does not need to be implemented. Reactors can run at full power for years. The only thing that limits NTR's is their propellant supply (hydrogen). What might be nice would be different fuel types with different ISP, weight, and volume. Also fixing the way ISP works to be more realistic (engine loses thrust in atmosphere instead of fuel efficiency)

Hmm, your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Is it possible to add a tweakable option to control a craft from its center of thrust?
-
Does the mod correct the navball so that if you have a craft where the line of thrust through the COM is not parallel to the command module's prograde direction, the craft's acceleration will be in the expected direction and not slide off course?
-
Aside from shuttles, will this mod make regular craft which are slightly off balance easier to control? E.g. a tiny probe unbalanced due to a science instrument on one side?

[1.2] Procedural Fairings 3.20 (November 8)

Is it possible to make an interstate fairing with an open top? E.g. for a Saturn-V-style Lunar Module fairing with which you can dock without having to discard in-the-way decouplers?
