Obsession with .25, .26, updates.... Stop the madness!
Levelord replied to xtoro's topic in Kerbal Network
I think people are missing the point that most of us aren't really hyped for the update. The update to mee seems lackluster (apart from having new SP+ parts) but the destructible buildings, new mission planner and navball aren't something I'm going to jump up and down about. The hype train is basically an inside joke that we play with to pass the time until the new version gets released. It's on the same level of making fun of Jeb and his complete disregard for personal safety. I can't understand why obvious joke pictures of the hype train and other comments in jest of it are taken seriously for actual hype. edit: Obligatory hype train plane -

Now I'm thinking the word Hypership sounds really cool -

But, you should board the Hype Train with us... -
Its not just the aero, the ladder glitch works in space too.

Holy Kerbal! That's genius! How come I never came up with that idea????

Indian Mars Mission Beams Back Photographs of Mars
Levelord replied to Levelord's topic in The Lounge
From what I understand it's a common problem with all spacecraft capable of taking pictures and most NASA photos that you see are often digitally enhanced before being released to the public. The case with India's photo is that they haven't bothered digitally enhancing it and published the raw image. Here's what Wikipedia has to say about it (it's related to the intense solar radiation interfering with the camera equipment; and this is just from low Earth orbit.): -

I honestly think it looks more like South East Asia with peninsular Malaysia... -
It looks quite remarkable and fascinating to see the dust storms near the poles.

What do you do when something explodes on launch?
Levelord replied to rdwulfe's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I sit there and watch the explosions play itself out while I chuckle to myself. Then I determine if the crew pod/Kerbals survived and then I revert back to the VAB for a revision. My rockets rarely explode these days ever since I learnt specific strutting rules and behaviors, which also reduce the part numbers too. -
Is it an angry canyon?

[STOCK CRAFT] Glitchpig industries!
Levelord replied to Spacepigu's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
The Scootertron looks amazing! Really compact and aesthetically pleasing to boot! -
Well I had a few uses for them... A giant interplanetary re-fueling depot that also doubles as a snack bar. Laythe ocean outpost Small ocean research colony with landing pad Ring station that acts as living quarters

"But you're better than normal, you're abnormal!"

What I'd usually do is to encounter Ike in a retrograde approach where its gravity will slow my craft down into a Duna insertion. It's less guesswork compared to aerobraking and less dangerous.

I made a video in KSP showcasing my newest VTOLSSTO.

The keyboard only gives a binary input for the rover wheels, so it either goes at full speed or not. If you want to control a rover's speed, you'd better be prepared to tediously tap the keys and brake just to control the speed at a reasonable level where it's not too slow for travel, but also not too fast to flip over. This is why I think it's important to implement a speed limiter on rover wheels much like thrust limiters on rocket engines. It'll solve a lot of issues with rover wheels traveling beyond the design speeds of a craft. P.S Although 11m/s being too fast or slow depends on the design goals of the rover. If it's designed for high speeds then by all means it should be possible. However I find that for high speeds having a bike-like design (where there is only 2 points of contact with the terrain) is best because you reduce the possibility for sudden asymmetrical wheel traction where one wheel suddenly grips the ground and flips the rover.

I had a good look at your plane, and I'm surprised how well it flew. It had a better roll force than my plane! I haven't made it go to orbit yet, because I was having too much fun buzzing the SPH tower. There's only a slightly small thing involving the action groups where the #4 action group would only enable the left Rockomax 48-7S, but that is easily fixed

Mine is called Sailor Mun. I'll let myself out...

Here's the latest testing results from Duna's surface. I hyperedited the craft into a 80km Duna orbit. Used the NERVA to de-orbit and landed. Then took off again into a 80km orbit. It had about 125 units of liquid fuel in orbit, which is not bad! I hope this helps! P.S. Oh, and also post your craft here so I can try it out!
-
Hm... I'm not sure what you mean by that, it doesn't need to re-fuel to SSTO from Duna's surface, and I can assure you there's only 3 tanks. No hidden tanks to be found! XD My landing on Duna uses the parachutes and short bursts of the Rockomax 48-7S to level the plane out. Perhaps it's the ascent profile? I point the aircraft nose straight up until I reach about 30-50Km before turning horizontal when I want to get back to orbit. I'll probably try to do a video during the weekend of it O_o
