[Stock Only] Precision Bombing
PDCWolf replied to PDCWolf's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
That's because you are getting 2.5 km away from them before they touch the ground, try flying more slowly. -
Time for a fun challenge! This one's about, as the title says, precision bombing. How to participate: •You can either use an existing spaceplane or create a new one •Attach the bombs (see design below) to it. You can attach as much as you want but only your best try will be scored. •Take it to the runway and take off. •Fly above the launchpad and drop your bombs (you can either drop all or one at a time, this is up to you). Scoring system: •Each bomb will be scored separately, and only your best shot will be taken into account for the leaderboards. For score data, refer to this picture: Validating your score: For your score to be valid your post needs to have the following: •A picture of your craft on the runway. •A picture of your craft dropping the bomb (see rules below for more specific information). •A picture of the bomb landed on the target area. (see how to get this one below) •A picture of the plane landed on the runway after dropping the bomb. Rules: •No mods (that includes non-physical mods such as mechjeb or any other autopilot). •Bombs have to follow the presented design or, at least, the basics of said design. •Bombs HAVE to be dropped from above 100 meters. •Absolutely no vtols, helicopters or hovercrafts. •The spaceplane, after dropping the bomb, has to be returned and landed safely (Safe as in there's more than 5 remaining pieces of the spaceplane) on the runway. •You have to land on runway 27 (that would be the "wrong" way). This is to avoid one of the multiple ways of falsifying your attempt. BOMB DESIGN Keep it simple, I used a design I already had available (those are supposed to be hydrophones dropped from an airplane, I modified the concept a bit and ended with this challenge) The bombs are made of: •OKTO core •MK16 Parachute •2 Z100 Batteries •2 OX-STAT panels •1 comunotron 16 You don't need the antenna, batteries or the panels, but you need the core so that it is saved as a flight and you can take a pic of where it landed without much effort. To make the challenge valid, here's my attempt: At the runway Dropping the bomb Where it landed - as you can see, it's more on the ramp than on the top, so that would be 80 points. The plane landed -LEADERBOARDS- 1- Kerbies_are_my_minions - 100 pts 2- Jonv4n - 100 pts 2- Read have Read - 90 pts 3- PDCWolf - 80 pts 4- 5- 6- 7- 8- 9- 10-

PDCWolf replied to PDCWolf's topic in KSP1 Modelling and Texturing Discussion
Scratch everything. I opened my jpg in paint and saved it as a png, now this huge piece of stinking, dark tonned, slowly moving, semi-liquid **** works. Thanks to everyone for the help. -

I'll have to turn down that offer for now as the only thing left is parttools now wanting to export my texture, and I'm about to chop my - off because of how mad I am. -

Unity to KSP: A Detailed Tutorial

We are trying to solve that part (and the guys solved the collider stuff too) at this thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/28326 -

PDCWolf replied to PDCWolf's topic in KSP1 Modelling and Texturing Discussion
I want to believe it is not related to that, because when I tested with someone else's .mu, it wasn't there, so I think it's related to a model/texture error. -

it's not an animation that is playing, it's the engine fx. Thanks anyways, i'll keep it for future reference. By the way now the texture is not being exported by parttools. -

I just noticed that. I noticed that my model.mu was 1kb in size, and that it had no texture being exported (yes, i'm retarded and airheaded enough to not notice that before). -

http://pastebin.com/bhr901bT I have to fix the node_stacks and write their new positions. Done. -

Already worked that out. Done beforehand Did this, everything looks perfect. No plugins being used, cfg is a copy of the normal nuclearEngine part, except that I changed values to match this smaller version. Anyways, checked it again, there were no visible mistakes. -

Would that be correct? -

PDCWolf replied to PDCWolf's topic in KSP1 Modelling and Texturing Discussion
As I said before, I was following what the (as seen REALLY outdated) tutorials said. -
Well, I used the search funcion, I read all the tutorials, I downloaded all the needed tools, I already had the skill from before, I was a calm and reflexive individual before this, but now I'm blind, not because of accidentally looking at the sun, but because I'm enlightened by my own rage. I'll proceed to explain in chronological order: •I made my asset in 3Ds Max 2010. •I made sure to center it as every freaking tutorial said •Textured it by unwrapping •Exported it to FBX with Z-up as the (recently closed) 3ds max tutorial said •Opened a new project in Unity •Imported the model following the UNITY AND KSP tutorial (setting scale factor, creating colliders and lighting UVs) •Watched the scale factors and all that jazz (my part is 1m diameter at 1 unit = 1 meter on 3ds max) •Added my node_collider box created in 3dmax as a mesh collider to my main mesh, clicking convex of course. •Created empty gameobjects to position my node_stack_top and bottom and thrustTransform •Exported the model to .mu format with the texture converted to mbm (also tried png) •Grabbed the .mu and sent it to my parts folder at ksp folder •Created the CFG taking others as a base, but putting my own coordinates for the nodes and watching carefully any other possible mistake, there were none to be seen. AND ALL I GET IS AN INVISIBLE USELESS PART AND AN ENGINE FX THAT IS ON EVEN IN THE VAB. I seriously want to shoot myself down there so that it doesn't kill me but it hurts enough to forget this painful experience. Any help appreciated, if you need any additional data just ask.

Estimating delta-v to orbit using gravitational force?
PDCWolf replied to mushroomman's topic in KSP1 Discussion
According to the OP, he knows the gravity. For the diameter, you can go to the wiki. I mean, he's alright with calculating by hand instead of using a mod, so I guess he won't have a grudge against going to the wiki for the missing numbers. -

Estimating delta-v to orbit using gravitational force?

if the body has no atmosphere I don't see why not, as long as you know the formula that is. -
just watch out for the moons, you don't want to end like my nuclear stage.
