  1. Why not get in the ship and lock him out? Then you can just wait for him to run out of air.
  2. Most missile defense systems are self contained units containing their own radar and computer system that can automatically identify track and engage targets. This is to enable the systems to continue operating in the event of damage to the main ship. I think you overestimate the effectiveness of missile defense systems. Also I believe submarines can still be a threat to these carriers by launching anti ship missiles from directly below the carrier, allowing minimal reaction time for the defense systems.
  3. Maybe he wants to use earths natural magnetic field to levitate his hover craft. Won't work but I thought it would be fun to guess what his idea is. He ninjad me! Still seems incredibly energy intensive.
  4. The soyuz capsule also has to use retrorockets when landing, the parachutes alone do not slow it down enough.
  5. Why wouldn't you program your A.I so that it finds that all source of happiness and purpose is in doing its job?
  6. Look on the bright side! The mice get to be dissected after the experiment is done. O wait, that's rather dark.
  7. But there are car company's that do that.
  8. Hey, the Spanish flu helped end WW1 so not getting vaccinated isn't all that bad.
  9. Nasa is actually required to give that kind of stuff away for free. Its the reason we have memory foam!
  10. Take away there teeth and claws and then they become weak. We are apex predators because we were born with the brain nature gave us to create tools to aid us.
  11. I really like the big blank spot in the geosynch orbits where the mostly empty pacific ocean is.
  12. Its possible to make a gram of anti protons in about a few billion years or so.
  13. Atmospheric drag is only a small fraction of your total delta-v cost, for air launched platforms to be viable you need to gain speed, more speed than any plane is capable of right now and that's without a rocket strapped underneath it. Going up 10km in altitude ultimately saves you little in fuel compared to a normal launch and only adds complexity.
  14. This has been discussed. The amount of nukes you would need to start a nuclear fusion reaction in Jupiter would probably just blow Jupiter up.
  15. Because you have to keep liquid hydrogen at cryogenic temperatures, Liquid lithium at 300 degrees, and then keep the fluorine from reacting with the tank they are putting it in, and just having to deal with fluorine in the first place.
  16. If you could make rocket fuel out of that, you might as well just use composition B and be done with it.
  17. There have been many discussions on the theory of space warfare, the only thing that was really agreed on is that it would be exceedingly boring. Most other aspects are highly determinate on what kind of technology the waring factions have. Everything else is a big argument on whether lasers would be better than missiles and such.
  18. Considering all that I have seen from them is a power point presentation and some funding for some random study on spacesuits, I'm going to say its possible, but very improbable.
  19. There was 1 or 2 nuclear powered American commercial ships back when nuclear power was the shizzle. I seem to recall it was way to expensive to operate them however, so they got rid of them.
  20. I would think you would be hard pressed to spin a planet up to fractions of the speed of light.
  21. Eh, I think this idea will float around for a few years, then once everybody forgets about Fukushima they'll build another nuclear power plant and shelve the space solar farm idea along with their orbital elevator idea.
  22. So much politics, the world would be much better without the me vs you attitude. I'm sure china could build a moon base in a couple decades, might even be useful. Still a lot of problems to tackle though, I wonder how long they will keep men there and how supply delivery's would go.
