Three Solid Rocket Boosters and You're Past Mun Orbit
Cdr_Zeta replied to inigma's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Hi, My thinking is no - SRBs are mainly for helping the main to get out of the atmosphere; there should be much less (?) TWR in space for them; somethin like that. Cdr Zeta -
and.. and this is why my first few or so Kerbals, aint gonna get hazard pay anytime soon..in fact...the first few are actually fully trained in the SIM but will train other rookies to actually go into space - we dont send our teachers into space. That said...it depends on the situation and also how people play...so..for me...if they have an accident and go poof...thing is, they come back into the game...there is a crew roster mod that can change their names I think if that happens...so it could be their child etc haha that takes over when you change their name! Just an example...There will be instances where the death/accident may be caused by a game issue, or a bug you knew about but forgot; guess what...revert; gamesaves; etc; start over from the last good point in game before the glitch. Yes in the end they die but in game they come back; in career, they shouldnt, and thre should be like a 100 character limit; or limits a player can set; AND (AHAHA>>>??AA); a cloning station (?); or a cryo station where we can give them powers to kep them alive; until they cant except cryo no mo...etc I will probly have to get that mod and change their name to reflect a sibling of the predecessor. Hi, Sorry I could not read the posts accurately due to spoilers...this is my gameplay...> I am a science nut as well, so...our Kerbal Engineers go off and explore, when they find things, they reverse engineer, or research, design, simulate, build, test, and produce...all of these functions, processes, and etc, are created and done as I create them, and when it is appropriate for the Kerbals to learn and do that particular stage. Like characters in mMORPGs learning skills; in fact I seen skill tables loomin about; I need to figure that out too and design my Kerbals' skill trees. We have to produce our own science for them to find, learn, and do; they also have to gt out there and find these thing; or research them. I am building actual building where Kerbals study science, communications, navigation, etc...they have to be small and few parts cause of game lagg...I am providing these opportunities for them. It is roleplay at it's best - for me anyways - and I even LIVESTREAM it all ! It is proving to be alot of work; but I have time and cant do much of anything else these days; I also write music on the side but that has been awash. So get out there and give the Kerbals Science Opportunities - for example how you would go about having them discover Kethane - I been learning KSP for about a few months now; am just getting in to the game and ready to do real missions; so it is a long road for sure; this game has re-opened up the badly needed creativity in my life; it can for you too ! (EDIT - AND (!!) - As I am an amateur astronomer, with a 10" SCT, I plan on doing ARG's (<llok it up haha!) using real astronomy - IE, Kerbin is now a real place in the Universe; I havnt picked out the location yet as the Kerbals dont know their place; err I dont know yet LOL..but they do know about Orion; just not the ZR system...by the way even tho I am technically lost in space, I am still here haha!) Hi, Sapphire summed it up alot for me as well as the other about roleplay; visuals = try-to-be-real etc. I was hoping more for orbiting but I think some people try to go too far (as in those lagrange points simulaiton etc)... My problem yet to solve is a calculus problem regarding fuel useage vs weight over time; TWR's an all that good stuff...I would say it would be fun to try and figure these things out and do comparisons. So I am a physics/astronomer nut so ya I will be at my computer doin some of this stuff whenever my missions get rolling; I got some personal problems this week which will tend to doll off for 3 weeks then I dunno the next month I need to be home alot so I will have time to 'hit the books' as they say with KSP. It doent matter whehter KSP doesnt model things at all; what you do is figure the simulation out for your own gameplay, then you can play more efficiently later on...sweet isnt it ! Cdr Zeta

Hi, Is there a plugin that allows positional data to be transferred say from telemachus for anyones satellites? I saw a picture of one somewhere - maybe in this thread. I would wish it to work such that only selected clients or such so as to filter the data when accessing the site. Also sounds tho as in doing this would require bandwidth useage. (I am just now lookin at telemachus - finally...after updating my mods to 20.2 ...hours of work just updating) Cdr Zeta

Greetings From The KSC: As you may have noticed there was a glitch in the Earth-side comms system here today - all seems to be back in order and while we have comms we are delivering this update. In the future should comms Earth-side be out of service, please visit the website for immediate updates and progress reports; any and all information links can be found there - Bookmark them if you are interested in following our progress ! There have been some technical difficulties as of late, and so far, most if not all issues are now resolved; comms, nav, and launch control systems are now back online; we can expect launches very soon, yet to give the best performance, we are still awaiting the new Mission Control Center; we can expect the MC to be built ASAP; possibly tonite ! There are a small number of enhancements and updates to be incorporated into the new MC, and to give the best reliable experience to our engineers, we will be doing some simulations testing during the design and build stages. Although remote control facilities are not yet in place, and the space engineers here have not yet learned these procedures, we will be awaiting such SIMULATIONS training to be completed, and have them implemented into the new MC before launches will commence. We need to assure our Kerbanauts that our orbital and comms facilites, and guidance and control, are fully operational. There is considerable data to be reviewed, but we will be launching soon. Please feel free to keep updated at the website link below ! As updates and progress is made, immediate information will be available there. Wish us luck ! We need to find those UFO's ! Also (!); we have decided, as time goes along (!), to 'showcase' the various developers of our newer more modern technologies, as our Kerbal Space Society discovers them, so be on the lookout for yours ! The Kerbin Mission, Ongoing...Commander Zeta

from the offices of the KSC...quite informal... ...discussions abound around the space academy, with everyone wondering what has been goin on with the KSA and the latest UFO sightings... ...there has been ongoing work within the KSA and the sorrounding areas for new buildings...progress has been slow due to technical difficulties on the main frame...our technicians believed to have solved the problems (!!!) after many hours of overtime...the KSA is still somewhat vulnerable and the hack is still under investigation...we believe it is now a radio interference hack from some unkown origin, and was accomplished due to faraday cage leaks; there were no security issues, and the source is being traced ! ... ...LIVE STREAMS are forthcoming of the progress being made, but it has been suggested to wait until the buildings are built and ready for use to reveal them...the following buildings are in work: Mission Control MC Components: Orbital Ops/Comms Science and Analytics Launch Operations Observatory Housing, Medical, Supplies, Support A small contingent of the above buildings will be approved for use in at least 2 other areas around Kerbin; those areas have yet to be located. We are hoping for low orbit surveilance system to locate them. This may be livestreamed, as well as some launches for other commercial satellites. KSA reports... -
Hi, There is a section in settings you canm turn off shaders (or somethin similar); unfortunately the only thing to do is shut down things that make the game look pretty. My intentions were the same however bein that it is what it is, I have to play my game accordingly..I only have a slightly better computer - but I would have to have 8Gigs RAM minimum with Win7 (64bit); the graphics card would help in your case if you could upgrade. I think I have to have my shaders on; I am getting seems and I dont like them; I had LOTS of parts on the field and had lagg; so I am learning my 'LAGG' limitations early on so I can play a nice smooth game accordingly whenever I get to that point, which is finally soon! Unfortunately it is looking like we have to compact our ships, and dont set big space station dreams too early on. I dont see a problem with fudging around with fuel when you know that you can provide for more maximums, but cant due to game lagg. I certainly aint gonna build big and sit there for over an hour anymore just to get that thing into space let alone dock to it; we have to watch our parts count more I guess. Cdr Zeta

Hi, I have play with a conscience... Most of my first couple months learning, then realizing I can call my games a SIM; then creating a roleplay and turning the SIM into a KSA SIM (academy sim where they learn and get grades, and the kerbals stay active; I never end their missions; this is to start really soon as all SIM tests are done, missions roleplay design is done, and the real missions are starting soon. Send out porbes, retest of lifters etc; all being done in 'real mission' mode form here on out ! The roleplay begins; the ARG's have started; some kool things goin on in my Kerbin Solar System ! KSC Report Earth Day June 1, 2013: In a televised broadcast to the general Kerbal population, Bill Kerman found it necessary to update the somewhat riotous and ruckous crowds that all is going well and as planned concerning space exploration, and that no funds have been used out of the general population, and that funds have been made available through the generation of a minerals production agreement between Earth and Kerbin. Although the GSC Prime Directive is in force, some aspects have been set aside allowing for premature technological growth for this Kerbin society, as all of the historical pre-requisites have been met and even exceeeeeded (?). Some misplaced funds have been unaccounted for but the general budget allows for such discrepancies; this was not mentioned in the speeeeech; Bill seems to have a handle on that situation (?). First the not so good news - The KSA SIMULATOR has been hacked again; some data access has occured; no serious breeeeech of security has occured though; there are some rumours and speculation...the current status as reported, is that there were still some re-engineering work to be done in upgrading the launch facility, and that during the reconstruction phase, there were some faraday issues. Security is not of prime importance, as the facility is mostly run and built by Kerbal Space Engineering students, and for the most part, all Kerbals have a desire for space exploration; some more than others it seems; we wish to aide in any way possible; the KSC and GSC councils that is we are achieving those goals. Some more not so good news...regarding the UFO sightings...there is some unrest as some Kerbals are feeling unsafe, thinking there is an invasion happening...because we are behind schedule in upgading, it will be a few weeks or more to assess these situations...so far any reports have been sketchy but reliable, infrequent, and of special interest. No threatening moves have been made by any of these reported UFO sightings. We have explained that we are working on new technologies, and remote operations of space ships, so for the most part they think it is our own space engineers up there; only we know different! We do know that after some investigation that all is well; but no further data is available at this time. Now the good news...upgrading the facilities ! We are in the process of upgrading KSA, the KSA SIMULATOR, the KSA Observatory, building a new Mission Control Center, and making plans for at least 2 more similar MC's (Mission Control Centers, with observatories). As the general population is unaware of a 2nd KSP LC, we plan one new MC to be located there; that is if it really exists and we ever find it; we need some planes for that or something (!); or eyes in the skies ! Unfortunately (ya some not so good news again!) work has been delayed in all phases of design and construction. However (and back to the good news!), design of the MC's and missions planning has been an ongoing process. The last word is that LIVESTREAMS and mission productivity is at an all time low (we expect streams to be back up in a few days now); we are taking a well deserved vacation and working on other projects that also require badly needed attention. We expect all processes to be slowed down to half speeeeed for a good month or more; this is mostly due to learning curve processes and maintaining facilities, let alone design and build new ones...and wat on earth is the deeeeel with the 5 e's in this reeeeeport...tjere must be a glitch in the data stream again...meeeeens it is time to go for now but rest assured all is well here, and... there will be exciting times ahead for the new Kerbin Mission ! Sincerely, Bill Kerman Founder of KSC the Kerbin Space Council, Member of GSC The Galactic Space Council, reporting in for Cdr Zeta who is lost at sea...or space as the case may be. -

KSC Reports - Data Archives UNCLAS ...whereabouts of commander zeta unkown...looking for data streams on the various emergency TSC Channels; no data so far...auto-reporting data stream on the last video did not seem to get thru; so coordinates on re-entry were lost or not reported...Kerbals want a press conference as to the status of space exploration...the labs seem to be closed for inspection, repair, and maintenance...only one contact made aware of the situation on the board...Bill had some issue with the report...press conference and building site design and construction for MC and observatory sites are in the works; reports and status on the website...somewhere... >>>>>EOR<<<<< -

Maybe dont put Kerbals in mods when doing manuvers?! (note to self here) I have seen some mods explode prior to launch; they were overlapping each other; possible stut interaction; baboom. Cdr Zeta -

Howdi, As it turns out I have a PC not a MAC so Python wasnt an issue for me; a BAT file solves the Part{} problem nicely; I am still looking for a similar program (PC!) to simply replace/add "Scale = 1" :can we get this !!?? I ran the BAT file on one set of parts; I intend to run it on others but the Scale = 1 is gonna be a PITD; not that it cant be done; I am just kinda lazy. The old parts were abit off scale and didnt look good; I think scaling will auto-fix any node issues but I dunno on that one. I will manually add the lines and see what gives on the parts tonite and let yas know; gives me sumthin to do while I am lost in space now and my Kerbal Team has to find me in like 90 days or I am toast ! Report May 2013 Week 4, KSP KSC Minutes: KSP Radio Underground: Information reported in ARG. Press conference requested by Kerbin population regarding UFO sightings and space exploration. Kerbin Space Council: Kerbin Days No. 1: Memorial rememberances, Kerbal Kiddie Madness late at night, Memorial page added to website, Kerbin Days completed, large static displays fail to show up (!), motivational movie at the drive in, short parade and small static display went well, and finally roll call and inspection was a success. Plans for other Kerbin Days not released yet, but in the works! Recognized need for social community action programs regarding space exploration; working on a press conference to be convened ASAP; status of Cdr Zeta after the TSCTW (pulled away on special assignment address to public; CLASS INFO NOT RELEASED); KSC-GSC and Earth Relations CLASS NOT RELEASED: Kerbin Technological Growth Plan Is Consistant With Design; NO INTERVENTION IS PLANNED (GSC Minutes)). (Information released is located in podcasts, Earth Tweets , Video Streams, BLOGS, and written reports.) <<<<EOM>>>> -
Hi, Ran the bat file - works fine... However why not just do a search for "scale"; if it is found just reset to "= 1" ? If not why cannot you add the line "scale = 1" like you added the Part {} strings? Thanks ! Cdr Zeta

I already tried vanilla - needs some adjustment - I am doin all that and more livestream. http://www.twitch.tv/cdr_zeta Wish me luck... Mission-wise, Cdr Zeta is now orbiting Kerbin awaiting his return to the LC. Cdr Zeta -
Hi, Nice video I enjoyed it. I would like to give you a few tips though. Dont loop audio unless the breaks are clean (or use the same audio over and over either). Changing pictures is somethin even I need to learn like fading in and out; makes it easier on the eyes; no worries tho; I am starting to make videos myself and so far it hasnt been a picnic for me. Keep up the good work and hope to see more ! I need to crak out my keyboard and write music again; KSP kinda wins tho ! Cdr Zeta

Hello, Everyone has their opinions on the subject I wish to chime in as well ... Altho rage's post about the puff of smoke spore thing actually isnt a bad idea; but well after I thought of it we cant rule a genderless kerb out - they could however exist r not exist...I am using both the male and female Kerbals in my roleplay, as I think it is appropriate, and feel that the Kerbal Culture have progressed enuf to be able to procreate...I cannot go any further into the details as I dont want to spoil my kerbal adventures. So for the record I am for both male and female Kerbals; we can still roleplay them I dont see a problem there and I think that is even important; who is to say all the kerbs arent female either ?! Maybe it depends on the Kerbin system being roleplayed (!?). Leaving out direct procreation, but proliferation by 'other means', these types of cultures could exist; even robotic Kerbals...Cryo-Kerbs; Kerbs that are plant matter;they could be whatever we choose them to be (!). Now I am NOT female outside of the game, but I am glad to see the thread and hope to see more female Kerbal Space Engineer managers in the game ! Brabbit the av looks abit like Alf (!); sorry my eyesite aint that good ! So female KSP players hop in here and say hi !!! (EDIT: Mod post says the Kerbals hadnt any gender; whew...well mine do HAHA...OOPS...I looked at the av closer...an ya I guess my eyesite was abit off - I do like the av tho but sri ! Bring up the Av closer so we can see the face maybe...) Cdr Zeta

Hello, I am not feeling so great the past few days so I am gonna take a break from KSP; not sure if I will be back on tonite...gettin kinda burnt out. I hope to run a livestream tonite but I dunno... The website was updated to reflect Memorial Day - a page in the menu was added - each year we will add one or more to be remembered - these will be worldwide entries. I think the transwarp trip I made last nite gave me a headache ! I look forward to V20; have it downloaded; read the quips about the mods; I see no problems; I havnt started long missions yet; I can see where people who have had long missions running might be in a fix... Trust me I can sympathesize. I have started many a game more than once. Since I roleplay; I can modify my gameplay as such...Good Luck V 20 ! Cdr Zeta -

Hi, Wow this is gonna be a boon...I actually havnt used these mods yet - well I tried the Nova group in 18 and I had problems...thanks for this ! Definitely cheking out. (EDIT: I am using Py2.77 will this be a problem with KSP v.20? Thanks! Python isnt actually used running the game is it?) Cdr Zeta -
Hi, I heard something about turning shaders off... I myself will be using a specified number of parts for smooth gameplay - why build big to have fun - smaller unfortunately is better - maybe spread things out more too. My max was about 4-500 parts for an okay launch...same number total or less and I hit major lagg spikes on landing...need a cleaner runway. I am loading up .20 this weekend. Cdr Zeta
