  1. My first KSPgasm was the game itself. I saw it advertised on Steam, it looked weird and goofy but since it was a space game I needed to check it out on youtube, so I did. Ever since I've purchased the game, I'm totally obsessed by it. Imagine a full grown man playing a video game ('cause that's what it is) for 36 hours STRAIGHT! My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts by now... all I want to do is build rockets, create habitats, explore worlds or hook up another mod to my KSS. Really, this game is bad for me
  2. I leave up to 25 pieces of debris in orbit (to prevent lag) that I like to shoot down with my SDI missile platform, but sometimes I remove it by hand with the Lazor mod.
  3. Now that I play with the crew manifest mod, my Kerbals mean significantly more to me. I like to start out with a team of ten Kerbals that I all name after famous astronauts and play in DID mode, just to see how far I can come. Neil and Buzz Kerbal both made it to the Mun and back (after a rescue operation) and were later involved in the testing of a new escape tower. After some unmanned test flights, Buzz voluntarily applied for the manned test flight. I had balanced the whole tower, but forgot to add up the weight for a Kerbal passenger (didn't know they weigh anything, but they do!) When the pod came down, the chutes were torn off and the whole contraption crashed into the ground with a velocity of over 150 m/s. There was not even a need for burying him anymore. Your thread title gave me the idea that it would actually be very cool to have a cemetry or a memorial ground (maybe somewhere near the KSC monolith) with headstones that have the deceased Kerbal's name on it.
  4. Sold! (and some more letters to get higher than the ten which are needed to prove I'm not a spam bot)
  5. I've been a space aficionado ever since I was a kid. Also I played a lot of video games. KSP is the best of both worlds. Seriously, I've easily played more than a thousand games over the last three decades but KSP is different from all them. This game really makes an impact that is even greater than Rome Total War which used to be the number one in my top three best games ever list. Often I wondered if there ever would come a runner up and after so many disappointments (hyped generic games) KSP took be by surprise. To me, this is one of the BEST games ever (yet) and I'm not saying this lightly... and thinking about the future possibilities (mining, colonizing etc.) makes my head spin. KSP redefined the word quality and game play imho.
  6. That's not quite the real deal. It might not matter to a lot of people, but as a collector I'd like to have something original.
  7. I don't know how many "old school gamers" are playing Kerbal, but this game is so good that I would like to have a boxed copy of it when it leaves the Alpha stage. It's nice to have internet distribution, but nothing beats a physical copy of the game which I than could add to my shelf collection. I really wouldn't mind to buy the game a second time, just to get a boxed version. Is there any chance there will be such a thing or will the developers aim for a 100% digital distribution?
  8. I guess my Kerbals have to be sitting in the dark until I'll attach another solar array then. Would be awesome if we could do it though.
  9. Lately I've been practicing docking (finally getting the hang of it) but after a couple of major and minor disasters I wondered: How do I perform some simple repairs in space? Like fix a broken solar panel for example? I read on the Wiki planned features page http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Planned_features that this is partially implemented. Can anyone tell me how I do this?
  10. This looks useful and fun. I think it's a real nice idea to balance out the rockets manually, fiddle with the numbers to get everything as stable as possible. I'll give it a shot and see how it works together with the extra weight parts mod. A text box editor would be awesome! Any chance you will ever do a similar mod for the engines?
  11. I´m proud to announce that the (manual) docking of the Kerbal SDI missile platform finally is a success. At last I can shoot down all that debris that is cluttering my orbit. Thanks for the help guys! Now that I´ve done it, I´m hoping it wasn´t a lucky shot; hopefully I can reproduce this and get a little better at it. I think the main problem was my speed; I was simply going to fast to make any last corrections, but tonight I merged the two platforms with a velocity of 0.1 m/s in a near perfect angle. Again, thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions!
  12. You probably already tried this, but what happens if you retract the panels and after that extend them?
  13. Hey guys, I've been trying to dock in orbit for two days now, but without any success yet; I must admit, I'm getting a little frustrated by now. I've repeatedly watched a couple docking tutorials on youtube (I use mechjeb), but I can't seem to apply this knowledge in the game. Clearly I must be doing something wrong, so maybe one of you guys can help me. Here is what I do: I bring two ships into orbit. From ship one, I make an approach to the second ship by setting it as a target and burn towards it at a relatively slow velocity. As soon as there is a 500 meters distance, I kill the relative velocity to 1 m/s. Then I position the ship 1 docking port towards the second ship and turn on ASAS. From here, I switch to the second ship and select the first (aligned) ship as my target. I set the control mode to the docking port (control from here) and slowly I burn towards my target. When I get really close, I use docking controls and always make sure to keep the velocity under 2 m/s. This all works well, but for some reason the two docking ports aren't aligned any more and I always end up by doing a very close fly by (10 to 1 meters), or I even bump in to my target. I guess my question is, how do I keep those ports aligned? When I switch from ship 1 to 2, my guess is that ship 1 (not under control by mechjeb anymore, but ASAS turned on) is slightly deviating, hence I miss my target. (over and over again ) All help is appreciated.
  14. Mechjeb also shows this. And Engineer Redux even gives info on TWR for the planets and moons! Works really well. For a Kerbin orbit, I always aim for 2 to 3 TWR.
