Pretty sure this was NASA and KSP officially collaborating. Otherwise, everything else feels like coincidence to me - inflatable parachutes/balutes have been an idea for a long time. That said, those kind of parts would not be unappreciated

Speaking of which, it's just occurred to me that his Kerbulan counterpart hasn't been mentioned in a while...

Eh, not so much nowadays. The water physics changed at some point (one of the 1.0 versions?), and now it's actually a pretty reasonable option. I used to use it pretty often for landers pre-1.0 too. And for lifters. And as a transfer engine. And for escape pods. Yeah, that thing really needed the nerf. The parts I barely use nowadays are the stack seperators, actually. Since I realized docking ports can decouple too, there's a lot less reason to use them.

I suspect anything new will have Top Gear Syndrome™, unless they're smart about it.
-
SPOILERS I guess?: I'd probably say the rest of the ground-based antennas, seeing as you just have to follow the commlink lines to find them. After that...everything's more or less equal imo, without Kerbnet or SCANsat it's really just chance finding them. EDIT: Actually, is the memorial to original Mk.1 capsule still around the KSC? If so, that'd make a good third, rather than KSC2.

Not to mention cars. If we really cared about safety, no-one would ever step into one of those things, or cross roads or anything.

I think this as close to a KSP movie as we're going to get. I, for one, am satisfied.

2.5m parts some extra's/changes needed
GluttonyReaper replied to Carl's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
You have no idea... But anyway, for 2.5m parts, I'm generally not that concerned tbh. Bigger seperatrons and SRBs would be very nice though, and stack seperators should be available with docking ports imo. -
Not just that - it saves on the amount of spare parts and simple tools you have to carry, in theory. Instead of carrying a box-full for each of 10 types of screw, say, you can just take a 3-D printer and a single box of metal/plastic to be converted as needed. There's probably practical issues, and I'm not sure how far you need to take it to be worth it, but it looks good on paper

Roverdude's Sounding Rockets has a very nice pole for propping up early rockets. It's even got red and white stripes.

Not drawn anything for a few months now, but I recently learned how to scan things (no more fiddling with a camera!), so here's some old stuff of mine: http://imgur.com/a/jHVtZ I really should start again - I was never quite able to do what I wanted back then.

To be honest, if we had an option like this, I'd probably enable it for the sole purpose of ignoring it and littering LKO with debris anyway . Point being, I'd imagine it would be similar to the current rep penalty for declining contracts - not really enough to matter really, but enough that it makes you think twice before doing it.

Pessimism in Science and Industry
GluttonyReaper replied to Jonfliesgoats's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Yeah, it's probably more a sliding scale than two distinct groups. Heck, it's probably more relative than anything. Yeah, balance is a fun, fun thing. The nice thing about humans is that one person doesn't have to do everything - we're really good at grouping together, and almost working as one, in a weird, chaotic kinda way. -
Pessimism in Science and Industry
GluttonyReaper replied to Jonfliesgoats's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The general mindset that very pessimistic people tend to take im these scenarios is "there's lots of problems, it's really hard, so it's never going to happen." Thing is, anything in design and engineering is like that - if it was easy, we wouldn't have engineers. The big analogy that comes to mind is blended wing / open prop airliner designs. Combined, you would end up with a much more efficient aircraft that both uses less fuel and pollutes less, but some people in the field will just tell you that it's got too many problems to be feasible (e.g. passengers experience roll forces more) and so they can just never happen. So instead, we end up with the automobile way of doing things, where the same model is released year after year with just little tweaks for performance, rather than a big overhaul. Actually, electric cars are a good example too... Anyway, point is that pessimistic mindsets can be just as destructive as optimistic mindsets in their own way. A realist mindset is probably the best compromise, where you're aware of the potential worst scenario and the potential best scenario, and can weigh up which is more probable in a practical sense. -
I feel like I need to apologise for Kerbals
GluttonyReaper replied to Foxster's topic in KSP1 Discussion
This game must have gotten pretty good if people have resorted to complaining about the Kerbals in Kerbal Space Program Seriously though, a lot of people (including me) wouldn't have given the game a second look if it weren't for those little guys. Heck, I think that's what's kept me playing the game for three years - the whole orbital mechanics thing is fun and all, but I only bother doing anything to see those little guys just hanging out on my ships, or bouncing around on the surface of another planet. They're just a part of the whole charm, and they fit so well - these wacky, cute lil' green guys who just love launching their funky rockets off their tiny little toy world. In that way, it's sooo much easy to relate to their boundless enthusiasm for everything space than a bunch of grumpy, old humans For me, it's not even an age thing - it's just very good character design. I really couldn't imagine Kerbal Space Program without the Kerbal. (and if we didn't have kerbals, we'd never have had @Kuzzter's Kerbfleet or @KSK's First Flight, and I don't want to live in world where all the great fanfiction on this site never happened) -
asteroid covered in weird green ores?
GluttonyReaper replied to noobsrtoast's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Yep, it's a perfectly valid way of getting asteroids captured, because they're generally going to be moving a lot slower than something coming from another planet. Be warned though: an asteroid captured this way won't stay there forever - eventually it'll intersect the Mun or Minmus and likely get flung back out, or end up crashing into something. So it's a good idea to move them if want to keep them -
I never liked the old Mk3 parts. Unless you modded them (which I didn't back then), you only had 3 parts to work with, and they were all a pain to make work with anything visually. The Mk2 parts weren't much better, but at least they transitioned back to Mk1 easily enough. Scale-wise, I guess they were okay, but they really pale in comparison to to the newer stuff, which works with rockets as well as planes pretty well nowadays. So yeah, don't miss them at all - there was a reason they got replaced rather than revamped.

Rocket Garden KSC Upgrade
GluttonyReaper replied to moogoob's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
With KIS/KAS, you could even build a stand and bolt them to the floor now too -
Is there really a good way of doing this? (other than timestamps, which aren't always going to be accurate)

It's a Spiderman film, so I'm pretty morally obliged to watch it
