  1. I know a new version came out today, and I spent all but 2 minutes on it, but is there a button that will turn the game audio on/off? Would be nice for sometimes I'm listening to youtube or music or audiobook and have to go to settings and turn all the audio sliders down, just a slight pain.
  2. A) The development cost are horrifying Getting the necessary delta-v in a single stage is a tall order, it requires very high ISP.
  3. I've added a few photos, I've managed as high as 71 m/s, 40 ton total, no parts blowing up (although at that speed it was lucky). I tried robotics flaps to make a pseudo-funnel (like your funnel bitslizer) testing different funnel angles and ways of clamping the ships together to prevent bounce out. I can manage consistently colliding and garbing each other (and eventually docking by fiddling with the flaps) at speeds of up to 60 m/s, by 70 m/s or above the ships clip past the flaps and stuff blows up. Too wide a funnel angle and the docking ports collide and fuse as you have seen, but too small a funnel diameter and more precision is needed to get a perfect head on collision. I think with the improvements in the unity engine and coding by squad that 0.25 allows for absolutely insane collision speeds to be completely survivable and non-damaging with stock parts (aside for IR hinges) with just a little engineering. Clearly Tsevion has show that the asteroids need to be made destructable: their hardness is game breaking. I really need to get some video making software and make a youtube video.
  4. Depends on the tanks, hydrogen can permeate metals, but not so much non-metals.
  5. Look the universe was created 5 minutes ago! Everything was created to make it look like the universe is older but it is not! Everything from the light traveling from the stars to your memorize all if it is fabricated! We live in a false reality created to blind us from the truth, there was a reboot just 5 minutes ago, I can't be the only one to notice! Oh what is that?, you think I'm wrong? Well prove it, come on prove reality is real! Long story short don't argue with conspiracy kooks.
  6. Yeah well ISP also depends on expansion ratio
  7. Ok I got a hard question: how would I go about calculated nozzle diameters and lengths to match a specific thrust and ISP, knowing only chamber pressure, throat temperature, gas chemistry and mass flow?
  8. Machines could frankly be made MORE moral then people. A robot does not fearing for its life, for it is not alive, nor capable of fear, could decide to kill purely on protocol in accordance with UN convention, if it is smart enough and programmed to follow such protocols consistently and with fidelity. Imagine robot police officer for example as police conduct is an issue I know is close to lots of people's minds these days. A warrant is issued and the robot police line up at a residency to make an arrest, they do not "SWAT up": they need no military equipment, not even guns. They announce their presence in according to the constitution without fail, they knock down the door, a dog attacks them, they do not shoot the dog as human police would, one robot simply reaches down lets the dog bite its hand then grab the dog by the jaw, lifting it and holding it mid-air, they enter the residence. They do not force people down to the ground at gun point, throwing stun grenades, smashing or burning, They do not demanding compliance at the tip of a gun: they simply scan faces, recognize in milliseconds who is and is not the suspect, non-suspects are ignored, told to stand aside at most. They search the building and find the suspect armed. The suspect shoots them, they do not shoot back, they merely run up to the suspect, grab the gun out of the suspects hand: if a robot goes down because of a well place shot, they don't care. Then they do not beat the suspect, nor kick, punch, strangle, taze or mace. They simply grab the suspect, pick the suspect up, and carry the suspect like an oversize baby, out of the building and to jail. The suspect can't complain of brutality or racial or even sexual assault by the robot police, the robot police are not capable of any of that, everything was done in perfect accordance to the law and protocol, everything was documented in video, audio, body position, tactile, etc, such that the whole arrest could be recreated holographically in minuet detail for a court of law or for public record (COPS in 3D!) Now if that became possible, why would we want humans in the loop? Of course perhaps machines will go the way of terminator instead, it all depends on how well we program them, how well they can be programmed and the psychology that is possible of "sentient" machines. If machines can be made to compulsively follow commands and protocols regardless of how intelligent they are, then they can be made as perfect as I described above, if not well then they might be as "difficult" as skynet, we will have to wait and see, but so far it has been the former, but then again so far machine intelligence has been at most at dog level.
  9. Again this is not modeling the brain we are talking about here, just generating "thinking", neural networks as is have done very impressive learning task, just that 256 neuron prototype learned to recognize characters and play pong on visual input. And yet more is to come, cute now, Killing people in 10-15 years perhaps?
  10. That does not show much. Lets break this into brass tax: what computation does you think the glial cells actually do and how are you supposing it can't be replicated? If its activity needed simply to modulate synapses and neural connection strength that can and is already done in neuromorphics. Digital computers above the neuromorphics already provide an ability to on-the-fly observe and re-program neural connections in ways biological brains could not. I understand if you want to argue spiritualism: that there is no materialistic way we could replicate our surpass human thinking, but don't go about it by half-heartedly suggesting there is some mysterious biological component that multiplies the amount of computing power needed to achieve the same operation artificially: the argument is speculator, an appeal to unknown, and finally even if such a component is proven then it can be replicated. You need to simply come out and say there is a supernatural component needed for human general IQ which can never be materially replicated or surpassed.
  11. Well there are different studies on that, google is your friend.
  12. When I calculated Delta-V needed to take off of the moon or 10X mun I get 1857.6 m/s, that is 1817.8 m/s to go from the surface at 2000 km from the core to 2060 km Elliptic orbit (that goes from 2000 km to 2060 km, or 0 to 60 km from the surface) and then another 39.8 m/s to circularize at apoapsis. In actually I needs several hundred more m/s then this, with safe margins 2500 m/s, and 2300 m/s at least, so that is 500 m/s more. For my accent does not perfectly follow the supposed elliptic orbit, there is gravity loses in having to simply fight against gravity from falling down, etc, are there equations for calculating gravity loses and accent profile performance?
  13. It is speculator if Glial cells provide any computational capabilities, they may function only a supports for neurons. Artificial Neurons do not need biological support cells. They do not need other cells to stay alive, to assist in maintaining and establishing synaptic connections, or in paracrine feedback. Well sure if the goal is to replicate a human brain, if the goal is simply artificial intelligence that solves problems and accomplishes complex commands, then no. In that case the problem is merely one of computational power and the kinds of computing needed, programing depth, etc. Following a biological morphology merely is to allow for significant energy savings and efficient specialized computation, not for accurate emulation of the human mind (although some are trying to do that), sort of like how both birds and airplane fly and the wings for airplanes were originally model after birds, but the airplane was not trying to mimic the bird only trying to replicate the ability to fly. Frankly I don't think it is wise of us to try to make a machine the thinks too much like a human, not only would such a machine be dangerous but it would also present moral problems if it feels and has free will: we want emotionless machines that obey commands and seek only to obey and serve, like the machines of today only smarter.
  14. IBM came out with 1 million neuron, 256 million synapses, neuromorphic processor this year, that about a frogs brain. Neuromorphics is probably the only way we will get AI that is compact and low power consuming enough to fit inside a robot. In 2011 they came out with a 256 neuron, 256^2 synapses chip, so in 3 years they increase capacity by 4096 times. The human brain is ~80 billion neurons and <800,000 trillion synapses so if neuron equal neurons and synapses equal synapses and that rate of capacity growth holds they should have human brain equivalence in 2020-2025. Of course the human brain uses analogy synapses, these are still digital, but it should not be hard to develop an analog synapse, the synapse it self is just a transistor. The Neuromorphic chips already have a huge speed advantage over biological neural circuits, that 2011 prototype clock in at 2 million firings per second per neuron, biological neurons top out at roughly 1000 per second: an artificial brain at those firing speeds would experience half an hour for every second a biological brain experiences, that is fast enough to see bullets and dodge them, assuming the robot body could move that fast.
  15. I don't intend to have a consistent save file until the finalized game is out, until then I've just random sandbox stuff and career mode "testing"
  16. Fuel cells made sense for short missions, back before high efficiency solar panels, that and it also doubles as a water source. If your crew is going to go through say several hundred kilograms of water might as well bring it up as H2 and O2 and power the whole mission on it. For example 100 kg of oxygen and hydrogen could provide 5.9 KW of electric power continuously for 14 days (assuming 50% efficiency fuel cells, that means another 5.9 KW of heat) and spit out 100 kg of water for drinking, hygiene, etc. Unless you have water recycling you have to carry the weight of the water up, so the only weight that matters is the fuel cells, storage tanks, piping, radiators, you can reduce radiator and insulator weight and just use the fuel cell waste heat to keep things warm, etc.
  17. Delta-V for a cycler depends greatly on the cycle used, a cycle is possible purely on gravity assistance, which hypothetically zero delta-v in fuel needed (surely ~150 m/s is needed to attitude control and aiming). S1L1 cycle can achieved this theoretical zero delta-v, with earth to mars transit times of 5 months, Mars to earth transit time of 30.9 months, and 20.5 months intercycle period, 51.4 month long cycles. Clearly only useful for one way to mars as it takes 2.5 years to get back to earth on this cycler. The amount of delta-v needed to get to the cycler is not much more then Hoffman transfer to mars, or equal to a 5 month hoffman transfer to mars.
  18. I edited the wiki for this years ago. You need a radius of 224 m to achieved earth gravity at 2 rpms, more rpms and Coriolis effect on the inner ear becomes noticeable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_gravity
  19. Hermaphroditism is unstable, males and females tend to evolve, its about resources. As long as large amounts of resources are needed to reproduce then there will be pressure for males to evolve and cheat the system, and eventually females evolve because of the sausage party effect. Sure if a biosphere lacks individual life forms and genetic material moved fluidly enough there would not even be sexual reproduction as we know it, like bacteria, or Kerbals. Say for example the Kerbals don't just reproduced but also trade genetics materials by shaking hands or bumping their big heads, or something, and simply modify themselves with the new genetic material before budding or doing what ever it is they do, then there is not reason for gender. It would be most fit to for everyone to be able to trade genes: being able to reproduce is now separated from being able to trade genes.
  20. I like it, it just outside of stock many mods do not utilize it well and it become useless with those mods.
