  1. Yep! The low one. And the updated texture is here. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xiq2kdoasa0sm9w/detail.png Not sure what could be causing that, there are no gaps like that in the texture, though that is where the edges are, suggesting tilling issues. I've added some extra light to the edges, just in case, but it might be something to do with the way the texture is being loaded. Here's the texture with a black background, some colour exaggeration, so you can have a good look at it. I can still see areas to improve. Next time
  2. Epilogue. Epi-log. Epi-lo-gue. I like that word. And now, it is time for the Grand Opening. Wernher Kerman: "Ladies and Gentlekerbs, good evening. And welcome. To our new space center!" It was 6pm. Well, almost. Not long before the evening sunrise, a traditional hour of celebration. And what a celebration this would be! Everyone was there, veterans, VIPs, engineers, scientists, even the design team for the new buildings, which were about to see their first launch. Bill: "Are you certain there will not be an issue, with the risk of the hitting the buildings so soon?" Bac Kerman (chief architect): "All the buildings are plated with Nokininite, so they should be able to take a few hits." The fireworks lit the night sky, watched by many kerbals. But there was one kerbal who was not there. Deep inside mission control, Gene Kerman was working away. He had Wernher's latest porkchop plots in front of him, looking at the opportunities for Eve. 135 days until the next window, with about 180 in between them. This means any colonist would need provisions to survive at least That long between supply drops. There was also the question of the recently noticed craters on the Mun. They would need a scientific investigation of their own. It was highly likely survey work for the proposed Mun Base would need to be redone. Three kerbals should be able to do it, over about ten days. They'd probably be fine just with their rocket packs, but perhaps a small rover wouldn't hurt.. Gene focused on the logistics, as fireworks continued to rain down. Then, Gene felt a tap him on his shoulder. Jeb: "Gene! Why are you still in here! We need you outside to celebrate!" Gene (excitedly): "Well, there is an Eve window in 135 days, a Moho window in 24, and the Mun-" Jeb: "Yeah, yeah, come and join us outside!" Gene: "Sure, later-" He continued to punch numbers into his computer. Jeb: "Man, there's plenty of time for that later! But what's going on outside, it's happening now! If you don't come and join in, you're gonna miss out!" . . . Gene felt someone grabbing him under the arms. A Mk12 safety helmet pressing against the back of his head. Gene: "Jebediah, what are you doing!?!" Jeb: "Gene, man, you've done so much work for this space program, and that's awesome. But now, it is time for you to come and join your friends." Gene: "Bu-" Jeb proceeded to heave a somewhat protesting Gene out the door, and over to the others to enjoy the fireworks display. (Which was awesome.) Even King Kerman LXIX was impressed. As the evening sun rose, the last SRB roared over the horizon, symbolising the hopes and dreams of all kerbal kind. And with that, the new space centre was open. There will be rockets. There will be rovers, there will be shuttles, stations and whatever else the engineers can come up with. There are planets to explore, adventures to be had, and secrets to discover! We will go, where kerbal hasn't, as well as has, been before! Yes, the Kerbal Space Program will have a bold, bright future. â—ÂThe End â— I hope you enjoyed the story. Comments most welcome.
  3. Jupiter? Just a big ball of gas. On the ponies thing- I don't post here that often, but I do tend to watch. And when everything just turns to ponies, it's Boring. Please avoid making this thread go the same way as the last one.
  4. You make some good points about the heating. There would need to be a reliable way to build it up though. All KSP engines vary in isp without varying in thrust, pretty unrealistic, yeah. There was a mod out there that changed that, but it seemed out of date, so I never tried it.
  5. I'm really liking the GUI. There are so many things! And it shows your flag marked places! Apart from one glitch, where the window shut and wouldn't appear again, my first try went well. Also, it seems you have three parts that do very similar things, all map making. I see how you plan to use it in the techtree, but once everything is all unlocked, the less high tech ones will just be clutter. Unless you make it so they fill a niche- they could be lighter, or less power intensive, or be smaller. I think you ought to do some sketches and put out a request for a model maker. This mod is getting enough attention, you should be able to get someone who can make some good looking, yet low-poly things Actually, Insewerants has been posting in his blog again, and seems to be getting ready to work on stuff. As this one has a lot more to offer than the last Mapsat edition, it will be interesting to see how things go.
  6. Today in Australia, was Melbourne Cup day. It was a good race, and I was inspired. I present: The Kerbin Cup! The race that stops a space program. It was an epic race! In other news, Joolius Xena finally is around Pol. When I land, I will have finally touched every body in the Kerbol system.

    Hello

Welcome to club Kerbal! Ah, I mean, the Kerbal forums...
  8. Damn, I completely forgot to put something about that in the OP, and I had planned to as well! It comes with about a years worth, but it depends how hungry your Lister Kerman is. You could carry many extra tones if you don't need as much fuel, however, Delta V will require recalculation should this be attempted. I'm going to update the OP. Perhaps it's time to politely bug the Kerb Paint guy to add it? Or you could file edit, and trade the tanks for the kethane ones to get green stripes instead. But it won't go very far... Red Dwarf is awesome! I was planning a fuel tug, when I realised I could make this instead. Thought about making a thing that looked like the Red Dwarf hangar, so I could replicate scenes from the opening titles. But much of Starbug's activity in them is getting hit my fireballs, and plowing through terrain. Probably possible, I might use hack gravity and the hanger at the old airfield.
  9. That hinge system is very impressive. I might have a go of this, when I start refuelling stuff.
  10. It is! Much easier to just launch a whole building, then having to make them all in a way that they can move into position. That said, I will probably attempt that method some day. Launching big things can be pretty tricky too. The latest thing I launched was the third major structure for the settlement. First, I avoid collapsing on the launchpad. Failed to achieve orbit, added more struts, clamps and boosters until it would get into orbit. Rebooted after a few crashes. All pretty standard stuff. Going up, I realise I had forgotten to fix my staging. Quick modifications on the fly. Going up slowly. Getting speed, but not altitude. Activated the final stage for extra help, and burn with fingers crossed. Cleared the atmosphere. Then, used fuel from the lifter stage to refuel the lighter , and therefore more efficient final stage. Burned at apoapsis, and there we have it. Hotel Minmus is finally in orbit around Kerbin. Celebratory dance around room, transfer burn, post to forums, now time to sleep.
  11. The Ambitious Infiniglider. 1654 parts. Shown here in the later stages of the flight. Though the lifter I built earlier tonight got close, and I began to get problems in the VAB. I'm also running on reasonably beefy laptop.
  12. Patience! Give it a few months, and there may be a mod that will let you do that..

  14. Yeah, I do like how so many have teamed together to make this a very cool mod, each adding some of their own expertise. It's working well so far Here are some photos of my latest experiment, imagery shot but Lanlong Kerman in Starbug 1, on a Fast Reconnaissance (low and retrograde) Orbit. High up view looks pretty great. From here, I'm almost tempted to intensify them even further. Or perhaps a careful splattering of larger ones, as they're all very close in size. Lower down, I'm not so sure, it looks kinda like the city is full of giant seeds. Also, I think it would look better of the white areas were made more orangey or yellowish, as they look a little washed out when close up. Colour seems to be controlled by the city layout texture, rather than the Detail texture, so that's a suggestion for you, Mr 5thHorseman. I'm using the standard size city layout texture, rather than the large one, 'cause I'm stingy with memory use like that. Perhaps tilling the cities a bit smaller would be better, but you wouldn't want to reduce it by much. Though the patterns I've grown to like will change, it may be worth it. Any other thoughts or suggestions for the city detail texture?
  15. Yes, I ought to finish this, shouldn't I? I've got all the photos, and the plot for the next part, just some dialogue to write, and then editing. I might get it done in a bit over a week, or in the next few days. When you see the thread name updated, you'll know it is here. The new clouds mod makes shots of KSC extra awesome. Except I'm sticking with the 0.21 version of the space center for this. I might cover the latest modifications as part of another story in the future.
  16. In the "What-did-you-do-in-KSP-today" thread, I announced my intention to create some kind of settlement on Minmus. It would be in a lovely spot I named Starfield Plateau. Well... I launched several modules, but I'm just going to briefly describe two. Firstly, the main module of the M.I.S.S.S. itself. It was dropped from a giant skycrane. Samford really should've found somewhere better to stand, eh? Launching such huge things is quite a struggle, but I'm glad I did it. The second part is the Tower of Minmus. Serves as fuel depot, though the kethane processing equipment has not arrived yet. I eventually launched it as a three stage contraption, using most of the fuel it could hold to get it into orbit. Then, It was a fiddly-atmosphere hugging rendezvous to get some more fuel into it. But after that, I still didn't have enough to land on Minmus. So two of those mainsails had to go. But, I had some equipment mounted on to those engine pods I needed at Minmus. So Danble engaged in some complex EVA activities to recover them. I ended up loosing one, but 3/4 is better than 2/4. This thing turns really slowly. I used mechjeb for the final landing, as it had more chance of success. But, as it touched the ground, there was a problem. The engines extended past the landing legs, and with only two, the whole structure was at risk of toppling over. I had to drop my engine pods. The thing is though, those pods were meant to be sent of into space after I'd collected the vehicle from the top. However, lacking control systems of their own, there was now no way to do this. Unless.... Danble agreed to attempt one of his most dangerous tricks yet. Some of those vehicles had somehow doubled up on seats, and I use the KAS plugin. Just a question of letting go fast, and not killing yourself... Success! Danble's RCS was more than enough to save him. After the second one was also put on its final trajectory, the tower was ready. Now, they've just got to wait until the kethane equipment arrives. The miner itself has not yet been made, and I haven't done any kethane scans yet, but the Minmus Institute is full of optimism. Hard not to be in a place so shiny and mysterious. Started writing this for a post in the "What-did-you-do-in-KSP-today" thread, but it got too long. Now it's got a thread of its own, I may continue, and write about it a bit more, perhaps.
  17. I'm not quite sure what you're proposing. We already have SAS, which does what you're suggesting. If stuff goes spinning away, you're coming in much too fast when docking. You'll improve with time One cheaty trick you could employ is timewarping very briefly, this stops all rotation. If you're looking for something that can orient the ship at the press of a few buttons, the most common system is mechjeb, which also includes telemetry and autopilot systems. BTW, this game was build to let mods be added, nothing is "Hacked into the game." It's very mod friendly .
  18. Minmus, Kerbin's second moon is now the home of the most elite science center ever. Flag includes an artist's impression of the main module.
  19. It's two letters, apart from the number. You might be able to guess where I get them from, I wasn't being very imaginitive the day I begain using this for forums.
  20. I agree, the squares aren't the best. Vector graphics would be great. Yeah, the whole tip may be a bit much. Even with it just being a little patch over KSC, it will still become visible when you are quite low. Currently, the patch over Airfield Island obscures it at night. I'd rather see the airfield, as much as I like my city texture. Speaking of that, this is my latest experiment all version: Going to try higher density dots next time. One last thing- many areas of the cities look washed out when near the ground. I might try adding more colour.
  21. I like the pictures. Could be fun, but only if the sidequests are not that much a core part of the game. I don't want these guys bugging me to do cr*p while I'm off executing my own plans. I want to keep the kerbals working for me, not the other way around. Though in another thread, where I raised the idea that budget could be a per year thing, sidequests could be an interesting way to boost things.
  22. I'm going to put an an opinion to the contrary. I like having space around KSC, and seeing it as I go up. Please don't put city lights there. Another thing I'd suggest is beefing up the Kerbin city area more- the whole tip of the peninsula could be lit up, an the city to the north of KSC, which currently looks bigger, ought to be turned down. This mod makes Kerbin so much more real looking. Now, just got to get those cities looking as good as the coulds.
