I almost got the 0.17 discussion thread locked by speculating. Can't we just wait until they announce 0.18?

What is there to discuss? Discussing ANYTHING that's not in 0.18 and it's off topic. Seeing as we don't know what it is about, and speculation is off topic and frowned upon, there is nothing to discuss and the entire thread is off topic. You cannot have an "on topic" thread if you don't have a topic.
