  1. So the last few days have been productive for my New Horizon game. I'm sorry I haven't updated the actual thread with actual content but imgur has been giving me issues with making albums sooo... I'm gonna make actual mission reports for each of the following launches, but as a bit of a prelude, here's some sweet pictures! About 10 Kerbal days after the Explorer 1 launch with which the "New Horizon" Initiative was brought to a start, Explorer 2 was launched on a Juno-B rocket. The Juno-B differs from the Juno-A, which launched Explorer 1, in that it includes a second orbital stage used to push Explorer 2 into an elliptical low Kerbin orbit. Several weeks after Explorer 2, our program was ready to launch it's first crewed flight. Piloted by Jeb Kerman and lifted into a sub-orbital trajectory by the Redstone-01 rocket, MerKury 1 was truly a feat to go down in the history books. The Redstone rocket is identical to the Juno line, differing only in that it has an inbuilt solid fuel stage for a longer sub-orbital flight. This allowed the MerKury 1 to achieve orbital altitude with an apoapsis of ~78km. A few months after Jeb became world-famous as the first Kerbal to venture outside Kerbin's atmosphere, MerKury 2 was rolled out onto the launchpad. This time crewed by Valentina- the first female Kerbal to pass astronaut school, it was fitted atop an Atlas-LV1 rocket. The Atlas' stage-and-a-half design put the MerKury 2 capsule and it's small orbital module almost into orbit, with a periapsis just below the planet's surface. The capsule's orbital excursion module allowed it to achieve a 160-by-76km orbit and then re-enter after one full circumference. A week after that, we launched our first dedicated low-orbit communications satellite- BoxSat 1. Launched on a Juno rocket with an Agena orbital half-stage, it definitely pushed the vehicles' capabilities putting itself on a 600km circular orbit. Nothing more than a metal box with some solar panels on the sides, a set of antennas connected directly to Mission Control and a short-range dish to facilitate low-orbit communications for our following missions. With the advent of coloured TV and large-scale communications, the Cabana Corporation was contracted to launch 3 satellites capable of facilitating the needs of the planet for a stable comm network. With that in mind, we recently launched the first in a series of geostationary satellites. Called Commsat-1 and lifted by an Atlas-Agena-SLV2, it can support 16 civilian broadcasts as well as several program-specific frequencies. Fitted with four powerful solar arrays, it has the capability of keeping the channels open indefinitely. We really felt like moving on with the Initiative this week, so we sent a data-gathering satellite towards the Mun. Lifted by an Atlas-Agena launch vehicle, with the Agena upper stage being used for its' Munar injection and orbit-acquisition burns. The Agena upper stage was decoupled in such a way as to crash into the Mun, providing us with valuable impact data. The final short orbital burn was performed by the Ranger's on-board attitude-control jets, putting it into an elliptical 2,800-51km orbit around the Mun.
  2. Saw you guys featured on the KSP Facebook page. Congrats! Your SCIENCE! parts have been invaluable to my New Horizon playthough.
  3. [starting "Message from the Chairman"] Hello there! This is BananaDealer- CEO of Cabana Corp. Research & Development! You may have been wondering "What happened to Cabana Corp.?", I know I sure have! Well, wonder no-more- the News Network (3.0-Gamma) is back online! Here you will be able to find the latest going-ons on-site at Cabana Corp's new and somewhat improved spacecraft-launching facilities. Namely- the "New Horizon" Initiative (not to be confused with the previous project- "New Horizons", that... that... ahem... ended)! What is the "New Horzion" Initiative, you may ask? Well, it appears our solar system is not the only one! Crazy if you ask me, but as the eggheads back in the Research Department keep insisting- quite true! Yes, it seems our little tiny sun is not the only little tiny sun. No, apparently there are thousands of little tiny suns all around! Some of these little tiny suns are not even so little, or tiny! Woah, I know right?! Anyway, our scientists have figured out that these other solar systems may have planets just like ours- green grass, blue waters- the works! In fact, they say there are several systems close by that are suitable for exploration. Well, when I say close by, I really mean several light-years'worth of distance, but hey... In any case, as of earlier this week, Cabana Corp. Research & Development is dedicating all of it's resources and funding to reaching those new stars and exploring the heck out of anything we find there. Yes! We're gonna SCIENCE! like we've never SCIENCE!'d before! And in order to truly dedicate ourselves to this new task, I've had all of our previous research into conventional rocketry destroyed! *weird background microphone noise* WHAT?! You're telling me we needed that? Damn... Well, you're smart scientists- that's literally your job! What do I pay you for?! Go... Make some more research or something... Ahem... Anywhooo... We'll be opening our archives of the "New Horizon" Initiative to the public, mainly as a giant publicity campaign (the Board of Directors has been insisting that we need more brand recognizability). You'll be able to find information on all our launches, missions and general happenings here, so check back regularly! [End of message] The Cabana Corporation News Network The "New Horizon" Initiative -------Modlist:------- TBD -------Kerbal Clock:------- As of: 30/10/201, 22:45PM BST Kerbal Time: TBD -------Launch System Key:------- TBD -------Missions:------- To do: --- Literally everything of worth.
  4. So to commemorate the start of my "New Horizon" playthough, I launched an Explorer 1 replica. The launch went perfectly, although the first stage did burn a bit too hot by the end which gave me a bit of a fright. All in all, it was a good start for the program- we got some decent funds from the first two contracts and some records, as well as a ton of SCIENCE!. If you want to follow my "New Horizon" playthough, I'll be making a thread for it shortly and attach it to my signature. Side Note: Due to an issue with 64bit KSP, some of the KSC buildings sometimes appear as fully upgraded when they actually haven't been...
  5. You didn't "crash" you SCIENCE!'d on the Mun. Why does that sound dirty...
  6. So currently loading Galactic Neighbourhood with a couple planet mods in preperation for a new playthrough (which I'm gonna post as the new Cabana-Corp. News Network). Had to apply the 64bit workaround to accomodate all the mods and addons, unfortunately preventing me from using KCT (getting the UNPLAYABLE state) which I wanted as a centerpiece mod... Will link to it once I've got something.
  7. CKAN is usually your friend in this matter. And if you're on windows- there's a workaround for 64bit compatibility (most mods work with it but some still don't).
  8. Usually it's beautification mods like EVE and Astronomer's Pack (which is based on EVE). The 64bit workaround also helps when on Windows...
  9. I don't know... I really have no opinion on what looks "better". I'm all up for optimal dV configuration, so if that means no paint on the tanks, then don't paint the tanks. I like my gryo tanks orange in KSP, but the painted version did somewhat convey a Saturn-ish nostalgia feeling which was nice... But in the end- whatever gets the SLS in space. Just... stop cutting NASA's budget. There's other things you can divert money from. *Looks at US military spending*
  10. Ah. Aight. It didn't persist, panels started working properly once they cooled off a bit...
  11. So I'm on my way to the Mun with a satellite to do some SCIENCE! and things aaaand... my solar panels start generating electricity... backwards. As in- the Energy Flow value is negative... Here's a pic: Like, is this a thing? Or is something just bugged? Also- on a scrapped flight before that, I've had Energy Flow coming up as NaN (Not a Number), which led to the scrapping. I don't thing I'm using any mods that mess with solar panels, just add them...
  12. So after applying the 64bit workaround and getting a couple of beautification mods, I finally tested the Khleb Crewed Vehicle, launched on a VK-9K72. Here's an album: The objective of the launch was to not only be the first crewed flight of the vehicle, but also discern it's highest achievable apogee while still maintaining the lowest possible perigee. It managed just under 2,000km, with a perigee of 75km. Being designed for Low-to-Mid orbit flights, the VK-9K72 does not feature the orbital upper stage of the VK-9K. Unfortunately, being the first actual test of the vehicle, CV-1 experienced several faults and issues like the solar panels failing to provide electrical charge. The biggest and most fatal fault in the vehicle was the malfunctioning of the capsule's parachute which failed to deploy- leaving the module crashing into the surface and killing the crew. Both ground-crew and engineers are scrambling to find the origin of the fault and remedy it on future vehicles.
  13. So earlier today in KSP, I lifted a HAMAL-type Satellite for basic Kerbin mapping, along with some other experiments. It was supposed to carry a Radio-Plasma Wave scanner in the configurable experiment compartment (along with the magnetometer and goo units), but the engineers confused it with an extra fuel tank and put that in instead (typical)... Whatever the case, upper management wasn't happy and some feathers were rustled. Fortunately, the added weight of the misplaced fuel did not impede the launch and the HAMAL-Sat is now happily mapping away, providing low-resolution data for analysis. Later (about 3 Kerbal weeks in-game), the boys and girls in KSC were ecstatic when the MINA-L probe achieved the first soft landing performed on Minmus, after it also became the first Kerbal-made object to orbit the tiny planetoid. Shortly after its' landing, the probe sent the first ever laser surface sample from Minmus. Like most USSK satellites and probes, both the HAMAL and MINA-L were launched (separately) on a VK-9K carrier rocket. Note that the one carrying the HAMAL has a Launch Abort System since the satellite itself is derived from the (still in-development) Khleb Crewed Vehicle.
  14. Actually, I've had a considerable boost in framerate lately. I use about 200 mods (according to CKAN), so I'm used to playing at about 10 fps on a good day... Well, recently (and I have no idea why), the game's been running smoothly at about 40-60 fps in-flight and about 80 in-VAB... So yeah, go figure...
  15. -PineCone Can't say I've seen a shuttle cockpit as the core for a station before... Interesting. Also- there's a real over-abundance of RCS ports on that thing...
  16. Hmm... For some reason, neither the MKS nor the SpaceY updates are listing on CKAN...
  17. Oh? Weird... Well, anyways- it's loading normally now, so no worries... Nothing changed, it just isn't crashing anymore...
  18. Sooo... You want to take the rocket building out of a rocket building game? And if you're tired of building a lifter for your payloads- sub-assemblies exist...
  19. The KSP.log just ends with lines of loading parts, no errors or anything... It just hard-crashes after loading around 3/4s...
  20. So I updated MRS via CKAN this morning and now KSP crashes on load. It's a hard "Program has stopped working" crash so no log is produced... Any tips on a fix?
