  1. I'll never understand these "top x something" lists. Is impossible to do such thing. The definition of "best" is not universal. Everybody will have a list of games they consider the best in their categories for one reason or another. A list compiled be some folks on a magazine will inevitably disappoint. I have no less than 5 games that aren't even in that list. There are also entires genres missing completely. Who makes this list?! Well, someone with a very different taste than me, obviously.
  2. If my corporate *%$ proxy didn't suck for one day of the year at least, I would find that Hyperedit post... The hyperedit official has a link to download that takes you to a page that has, as far as I remember, other tools. One of them is a craft... hmm... parser, merger, fixer? Don't remember right now, but you might want to check that.
  3. I can happen indeed. Many many years ago around here, a strange piece of something fell on somebody's backyard. It turned out to be part of an Italian satellite if remember correctly. So yeah, I guess an engine, which is tougher than a probe could might as well fall on you. You have to be very unlucky (or lucky, depending on the settlement law suit).
  4. LOL The idea has been debated to death, Andrewx21. There were many different approaches discussed, SQUAD said "no" to all of them. The end. Not gonna happen. Forget about it.
  5. Not at the computer at the moment, but AFIAK the Protractor mod gave you this out of the box. Or am I imagining things?
  6. I don't know how chutes work in real life. Do we have high-speed high-temperature drogue chutes IRL? I haven't tested the little chutes added recently to see if they help, but in any case my Duna landings are pretty much the same as they always have been, albeit a more shallow re-entry, but that's all.
  7. haha. Nice. For future reference, you don't need to leave when the "crossed-over-oval" is at 0º. You could have got into orbit and wait for the "pitchfork" to get to 0 again, some 30 minutes later in a 100 km orbit (you click those symbols to change numbers from angles to times). 30 minutes soon or late won't make the angle too far off the ideal.
  8. The Outer Planets Mod's authors have been waiting for New Horizons to deliver some data so they can add that to the mod. So it's just a matter of time.
  9. Two things here. Yes you can space your launches as other said. The best approach I think is to have them all in orbit already, so you'll be doing the burns with 20-30 minutes of difference between them. But also, the time of arrival at Duna will NOT be spaced the same way, a little difference in the time and speed you leave Kerbin makes a huge difference down the road, so you might end up with days apart even if you launched the vessels within minutes of one another, so you'll have plenty of time to manage all SOI changes easily.
  10. Same here, but at some point I'll need yet another computer and Win7 is not sold anymore... With my 3 winXP machines as a testament, I didn't need 7 neither, but you just can't buy it anymore. Simple as that.
  11. Same here, primary school. They even took people from other religions, and they were excused during religion classes and they could go outside and play (those *stards! ). Another aspect to consider here, and I might be pulling this from thin air, but still a concern, is socialization. School is a big part of that, too. No way in hell I'd have my kid secluded at home without interacting with other kids. I don't want him to grow a socially awkward kid like me... Sure there's kids on the neighborhood and all, but still, it's not the same... or at least it wasn't when I was a kid many many many years ago with no Facebook or internet or phones...
  12. Unless, they fixed it with recent patched, your feelings will drift to "again the same rush thing?" in a week. That's how I feel about it, the game simply fell short, very short. Among the things I don't like about it: 1) A lot of irrelevant aspects to it. Say naval units. What do you use them for? The whole orbital affair lasts pretty much nothing because after you build your first units you have to go build the next thing or you'll die. 2) Built units don't upgrade when you upgrade its class. In other strategy games, say Age Of Empires, if you upgrade from knights to paladins, your currently existing knights upgrade automatically to paladins. In PA, the 50 level 1 tanks you have will still be level 1 tanks after you upgrade your vehicle factory to produce better double turret tanks, so you end up having all these worthless units that are now outclasses by your enemy units and your only use for them is to send them to attack just because. 3) It's all about rushing. No other strategy is useful. 4) The galactic war campaign thingy is the same boring thing over and over: go to a planet, have a fight, get some tech, go to a planet, have a fight, get some tech... No story, no real progression. Again, I stopped playing after a couple of updates after launch, don't know if they got it better but I doubt it considering that the problems are with the core ideas of the game. Also, early backers are still waiting to redeem some of the stuff they were promised back then... No wonder why the kickstarter for their next game flopped due to lack of support. So my vote is a "2 stars, it's rather bad", maybe mainly because how the devs hyped the thing. Otherwise it might have been a "meh". Edit: Graphics are very very nice, I'll give them that.
  13. Also, be careful with your Pe. If your orbit is too low, you risk entering Kerbin atmosphere because the way your orbit changes when you burn for a long time. The solution is burn less time in each pass of your apoapsis kicks... hence more passes... and it gets tedious pretty fast. How low can you be depends of course, but anything below 100 km is a gamble, so I'd say expend some dV getting to 100.
  14. Also, don't overlook the idea of using Jool's moons to capture you without any kind of aero involved. I avoided this for a long time thinking it would be too cumbersome, but now I'm doing it every time I go to Jool. With a little patience you can play with nodes before arriving or at Jool SOI and get your self a multi-moon assisted capture really easy. PreciseNode helps here, because, among many things, it allows you to increase the number of predicted orbits (+1 is what you need usually). Then, the only aero-capture you'll do is around Laythe and at a lot lower speed.
  15. Mine seems to be getting dangerously high usage a lot sooner than in 1.0.2. I'm using the same set of mods but of course one of them could be leaking memory now, whereas it didn't do it in its 1.0.2 version, but still, I'm curious.
  16. Also, you can install the DMagic's Portrait Stats modlet which shows an icon on the portrait.
  17. Yes, this is happening to me as well a lot more than is used to... Actually I think I never happened to me before 1.0.2, now it happens often. You can say good-bye to the ship you were trying to go to, unless you have a backup or quicksave.
  18. ... I don't know. The UV cured coating they use on the caps is very durable and all, but it gets yellow over time. Given that you don't need that amount of durability for a KSP keyboard, I'd look around for another company. I also have an older WASD with laser printed keys instead, it's used everyday at the office to program on it, so hard use for 3 years now. It's in perfect condition. So, while it's cool and all. I would look around for some other company with some other method of printing, like laser, I believe it should be cheaper too (the printing, not what they charge, mind you ). On the other hand, WASD quality is second to none and has DA BEST costumer service you'll find in your life. So there's that, you know you'll get what you ordered.
  19. The three original Kerbals (Jeb, Bob and Bill) had orange suits, all subsequently added kerbonauts had white. They kept the original three with orange for historical reasons, you know, they were the first. When Valentina was added some people freaked out about "equality" so Val got an orange suit as well. There's no other particular significance about it.
  20. Something's wrong there. Your projected orbit shouldn't be a lot bigger/smaller than that of the target planet. That's why your dV requirements are so big. The way you should do it, if you want to save fuel, is wait for the phase angle between you and the planet to be right. It will take time, but at the end you should be able to just place a node and burn some retrograde/prograde and be done. So it's a time vs fuel situation. The way you do it is, you put a node somewhere in your orbit and add some prograde/retrograde until your Ap/Pe match the planet's orbit, and then you slide the node around (keeping Ap at the orbit) looking at the encounter markers to see if they get closer.
  21. Also, mind the inclination. You might have your Ap at the correct height, but you won't see encounter markers because your different inclination means you are way off up or down for the time you get there. So, tip: you can add a maneuver node in your dotted projected orbit, and add normal/ant-inormal to go up and down and see if it gets you and encounter. You can always keep playing with your prograde in your original node and the one in the dotted line will update.
  22. Engineers you want mainly because they can repack parachutes. So if you land on Duna and want to come back to Kerbin and land with the same craft, you need one of them to repack those chutes. Here's an post that lists the differences between them and the levels they can have: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/103034-KSP-0-90-Beta-Than-Ever-Grand-Discussion-Thread!?highlight=beta+than+ever
  23. Yep, that's pretty much my opinion as well.
  24. As others have said, the Netherlands thing is because of taxes, and it's a pretty common practice and a very legal one. Most companies big enough to conduct international business have a home base in the Netherlands, and subsidiaries in other countries.
  25. Same problem here, same error in the logs too. I don't remember if I overwrote and existing sub or not, thou.
