  1. I still think we should do a mission in LEO before we try anything bigger so people will be more likely to fund and support us. I would be more likely to fund a mission on kickstarter if the people doing it already had experience with stuff in space even if its only LEO. It would also give us a chance to figure stuff out and learn about how we should do things. It wouldn't be a big loss either if something broke.
  2. I suppose we would get a few pictures before landing anyway.
  3. If we manage to find an affordable ride to GTO I think it would be nice to map the surface of Phobos with the camera if it lasts that long. It's a cool mission and we would be doing something no one has done with a cubesat before. We would also be making the first satellite around Phobos.
  4. I have 2759 hours and I sure don't feel a quarter way to mastering KSP.
  5. You can see Duna inside Kerbin's SOI. It appears as a twinkling dot. You can also see Eve. I remember someone measured the size of the sun using Eve and the telescope mod from the north and south pole of Kerbin .
  6. If you just want to launch a 1L cubesat then you would need something equivalent to JAXA's first orbital rocket. I recall reading somewhere on the forums it was their rocket that had a payload of 1Kg to orbit. I'm sure you could do it. Depending on how fast you want it done you might have to roll the dice and ignore the laws and such, but if you do it might be your only launch considering how difficult it is to miss an orbital launch. You can for sure build the control stuff from off the shelf components all you really need is one of those unlocked GPS units. For fuel I would go with kerosene. I would use something like this: for a solid first stage, a hybrid for second because you can throttle it and get decent ISP and thrust and then a kerosene third stage because of efficacy.
  7. My motto is generally "If it tastes good I'll eat it." That said I'm sure there are plenty of horrible things that taste good. Meat generally isn't one of them when cooked. I know you are supposed to eat it in moderation but most effects are long term. My response to some animals being smart is wait until they are smart enough to get out.
  8. Wait. Asteroids sink? Could this be our chance at a permanent underwater colony?
  9. What he said was worst case scenario, because if one was in a retrograde orbit and the other was in a proper orbit 9.5km/s for total deorbit and 9.5km/s to get into a prograde orbit. Of course there are way better ways to do it, like getting the retro satellites Ap high up then doing a major burn to flip the orbit up there.
  10. I see what you mean, as opposed to needing 9k deltav to get one ton into orbit you only need a few hundred to bring it to where you want it. Right?
  11. I knew it could happen IRL but I wasn't sure if it could actually happen in KSP. A couple of minutes ago I had one spawn in Kerbin orbit.
  12. I haven't tried to capture any yet I'm just getting a bunch of satellites and stations around the system because I had to restart my game.
  13. So it is possible. I just looked at this one in the tracking station turns out its not captured just very close and it leaves Kerbins orbit in 30 days. I kind of want to try and capture it because it's only a class A
  14. So I was going about my day in KSP Building rockets and when I went to launch my 7th asteroid satellite I noticed something in a very elliptical polar orbit around Kerbin. I go and check it out and it turns out it was an asteroid I had been tracking! First of all, is this even possible? Did my game glitch out and accidentally make an asteroid enter orbit around Kerbin? Second of all What are the odds of this? I have 36 asteroids being tracked and 7 unknown at the moment. Should I hitch a ride for when it gets ejected? I can post pictures if you want.
  15. I'm using Kapersky right now, no problems at all. It only tells you when you need to reboot for an update.
  16. The only place I have ever seen a floppy drive would be school. I'm 13 and I can't remember ever having a computer with a floppy drive of any size around. I'm sure we had one when I was 2 or 3 but I can't remember it. I would say it's time for an upgrade when your students are younger than the computers.
  17. Haha that's great. I love that you can just catapult kerbals into a stable orbit.
  18. The SRBs were only used to get me up higher faster so I didn't have to climb as long. I landed with 250 liters in the tank so I could use a bare plane if I wanted to.
  19. So I was trying to circumnavigate Kerbin with a super fast jet that got launched assisted with SRBs. I was around 13 minutes into the flight and halfway around Kerbin when I hit 2.2 km/s and the camera switched to orbital. I looked at the map and my apoapsis was 84 Km and my periapsis was 27 Km I got a couple screenshots of the plane and the map. It's not even an intake spam plane. Only two intakes. Map screen Plane
  20. Did they say "call 911' around 21 seconds in? That must mean they had no one on standby. Even so it didn't matter because they had to wait some time for the explosions to pass.
  21. Granted. Eve now has the atmosphere of Gilly. I wish that plane changes were automatic.
  22. A good mod for delta V and TWR is Kerbal Engineer Redux. It gives you in atmosphere delta V and TWR for whatever body you have selected.
  23. I'm not a believer but I pretty much don't steal or lie because of law. You can mark that down as 1/1 on a survey.
