Its time... for a KSP community alternative for fans by fans of KSP!

New spaceport is needed now and has been for quite some time. A new spaceport being few years away just does not cut it. -

How can you even say that spaceport works fine?? Have you ever tried the search function?? Even if you know what you are looking for it will give a bunch of random craft files or mods that are not even remotely related to the one you are searching for. This is the case even with the popular mods. Might as well just use google then like I have to do now. Even squad themselves is unhappy with spaceport and call it a mess. I really hope they get a replacement soon as it has been taking way too long already. -
Why not duna?? Mars has aurora in real life: http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Space_Science/Mars_Express/Mars_Express_discovers_aurorae_on_Mars

What Planet Is the most awe-inspiring to you?
boxman replied to GamerMitch's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I used to like duna... It has the perfect gravity for rovers and had decent variation when it came to terrain. But now it is mostly just all steep hills which makes roving no fun.. -
If your space program was a song, what would it be?

A ball bearing.... -
And this is why we should be able to customize both career mode and sandbox mode to our own liking so that we can make it as realistic as we want. What is bad idea for you might be something that another person would love and vice versa.

What operating system do kerbals use?
boxman replied to Apature rocket science's topic in The Lounge
KAmiga OS. -
Considering how much I have gotten from this game I would have no issue if they released it as a paid DLC as long as it is eventually coming.
-
That is what I hope will happen. I dont care if there is years of development time left as long as they use that time to add missing features and make it as good as they possible can.

Cant you just ignore us if you have a problem with it?? This is completely ontopic to this thread and should not be closed. I have so far seen no name calling or anything that should lead to this thread being closed. People should be able to express their opinions even if you dont agree with them. If you dont like it then just ignore us.

And the nice thing about KSP is that you dont necesarilly need to have the limits of NASA. If it was 100% realistic ro real world we would not be able to do much more than sending probes and send humans to low earth orbit. If/when nasa gets the funding to put some kind of base on Mars they will have to find a way to get for example water and this could be a part of the resource system as well. Mining does not have to be just mining rare metals. I agree however that it should not be overly grindy. This is again why career mode should be tweakable so that you can make it as difficult you want.
-
@Albert VDS I have heard also different opinions on that. I wont mention any names, but one ex employer of squad said the exact opposite thing and he/she did not understand why resources was suddenly put on the back burner as it added so much to the game. This was back when it was not officially dropped but according to this person he/she feared that this was the case which sadly now has turned out to be true. This just shows again that people have different preferences. What I find fun someone else might find grindy or boring which is why you should be able to tweak the career mode to your own liking.

As much as I love the idea of kethane i just dont think it has been implemented properly. The scanning for example is pretty tedious since you actually have to be focused on the probe which takes hours upon hours in real time. If it was done right in stock game, then you would not have any need to do this and it would most likely continue to scan even when the probe is not in focus. And this is the issue with many mods.. Since the mod devs dont have access to source code of the game they have to do some hacks to get it working which leads to issues like this. I also liked how the proposed resource system was not limited to just about mining fuel and all kinds of other resources. Imagine for example if you had a colony and had to mine certain resources just to keep your colonies alive. I understand that resources are not for everyone though. I completely understand that it is not for everyone though, which is why I think the career mode should be customizable so that people can play the game just the way they want.

I know nothing will ever bring back the feeling of achievement or "terror" that I gave me back in earlier days. But I know for a fact that this game would be fun to play if I had an actual reason to go places. Right now there is no point in building for example a colony but with resources the possibilities would be endless. The current career mode is also something that ends, while resources is something that would never really be fully drained in a game that has a whole solar system. Now when you have unlocked the science tree you are just thrown back into sandbox mode...

I know there is a big market when it comes to casual gamers, but this game is not one of those that will ever be interesting to the average casual gamer. If they want to go that route then it would make more sense to become a mobile developer and develop a completely different game for tablets/smartphones. Even the rapier engine they added had only benefit of making it easier to make SSTO. I dont mind that they added it, but there has literally been nothing added for the more advanced players since .18 or .19 when rover wheels was added. The only good thing for me that came from the last update was the individual thrust and fuel feature and the optimizations. When money is implemented they will probably make that so easy that it is impossible to fail as well like they did with science.

I actually want a decent career type of mode. I have already mastered pretty much everything you can do in sandbox mode as it is now and no longer have the feeling of achivement like once had. Thanks to this I have hardly even played this game lately, as it feels like i am repeating the same over and over again. Having something like resources would give me an actual purpose as well as add more challenges to the gameplay. I understand where you are coming from though, as i felt like you and defended the game in same exact way just a few months ago. But with each time I play it i feel that the motivation and feeling of achievement is just vanishing. I have tried taking breaks from the game, but it is just not helping anymore. I just want real purpose to go somewhere besides the short and easy science that you can complete in just a few hours. I have also been trying some mods, but sadly most of them cause issues or stop working completely. Take for example the ball bearing mod i use now. It has not been updated since .20 or so and with latest version it became entirely unusable as it causes the game to crash after just a few launches and who knows if they will ever update it. As hard as it is for you to believe now you might feel the same way one day. I have seen quite a few people here who had a similar experience.

I dont know what it will become.. But it seems pretty clear now that they are mainly trying to make the game easier for casual gamers which I think is sad.. I am really tired of games being dumbed down, especially a game like this that casual gamers have little interest in anyways I really hope my fears are wrong and that they will again add something that will benefit the old time players as well.

As much as i dislike the direction squad seems to be heading with KSP i dont think 3 years development time is unreasonable at all considering the size of the dev team and the fact that it is so playable that alot of us has spent 100s-1000s of hours playing it. It started out as a small hobby project that eventually turned into something much bigger than they expected. It was not until the steam release that the popularity really took off. I would however have expected a faster pace now that it is on steam. Either way this is just a minor issue for me and I would not care even if it took 3 more years as long as the end result is good and also adds something for us long time players.
-
Exactly! And the sad part is that what they have announced for the future is mostly dumbed down career features that is meant to get new/more casual players to buy the game. I have nothing against making the game easier for new players as long as they also add something for us long time players. Some people might find resources boring, but other people like me would find that it adds so much playability to the game. What squad could have done is make the features optional so that every player can customize the difficulty and settings of the career mode. That way they could make "everyone" happy.
-
I dont think there should even be anything remotely similar to "endgame" this is why I dont like science as it is. Once you are done you are either back to playing pure sandbox mode or have to start over from scratch. A game like KSP I think should be pretty much endless and with a full solar system it should be pretty much impossible to really run out of all resources if it is anything like the real world.
-
Resources for one would give me something to do. Also actually being able to use rovers for science, so that you can actually drive from biome to biome would also help. As it is now rovers are pointless because it is quicker and you get more science just from launching a ship to each biome and then returning it. Last update made it even more useless. :\ Some things to actually explore besides a few easter eggs here and there would also help. Just imagine the possibilities if you had to for example find resources like water to keep your colony alive, or fuel so that you can make launch platforms on other planets.

As much as a disagree with OP stating that it is like minecraft, there is no way they can put in all the missing features in just one "year". There are plenty of parts even that should be in stock game, like things like for example hinges, ball bearing and so on. To make for example a proper shuttle in stock you really need those parts. What we so far know about career mode also suggest that rovers, probes, stations and colonies will not be very useful. The last change to science even made rovers even less useful than they were before. There is just no way they can add all these features+multiplayer in just a year or so. And no mods dosent cut it.. Take for example the ball bearing mod i use.. Afaik it has not been updated in ages and is dependent on infernal robotics since it is basically a hacked rotatron. Last patch completely broke this mod for me making the game crash after just a few launches if i have a ball bearing hooked up to any of my ships. Mods will also nearly always be inferior compared to someone who have access to the source code and can make the needed changes in game code to make it work properly without any hacks. Edit: I also forgot to add that it is near impossible to share modded crafts or persistance files. You cant simply share your craft with these mods since most modders wont allow that, so if you want to share some creation of yours they have to find these mods and download them all one by one manually. Also the multiplayer part will probably be impossible to play with mods.

Exactly. The later updates pales in comparision to what a simple update like adding docking ports, rover wheels and such added to the game.
