Parallel Universes / Time Loops in KSP

Sure you did not accidentally make custom quick save or something with alt+f5? Even if not you might want to hit alt+f9 to see if that other save is there. -
KSP 1.1 and Dx11(12?)
boxman replied to Vegatoxi's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Graphically alot could be gained with dx11 support though. They say they want to polish up the visual aspect, so dx11 support would help alot in that area. -
I bet it was the system disk then.. The difference should be little to none if you use a separate partition.
-
I use a mechanical HD as a SSD makes hardly any difference at all when it comes to KSP unless you are running from system partition or have slow 5400rpm disk. Since I have 16gigs of ram I even tried running KSP directly from a ram disk and it only shaved off a few seconds even though that is way faster than even SSD. There is some kind of other bottleneck caused by how KSP loads that is not related to disk drive itself. - - - Updated - - - Sure you can. You most likely cannot add a second drive, but you can surely easily replace the drive with a larger disk or a SSD. - - - Updated - - - There are... They have a tendency to die/lose data with no warning whatsoever. Also if you have the ssd/pc switched off for weeks-months you risk losing data once your SSD starts to age. At least hard drives often warn you before it dies completely and if a hard drive dies, then it is usually in the first months-year. I still have a 8gig hd from the 90s that was running 24/7 until recently with zero problems and it still works today. 2.5 inch drives seems to be way more unreliable imo experience though.

I have posted this picture before in another thread, but I think it fits well. Was testing some contraption and it ended up exploding every time with the kerbal being launched straight into the air. Was able to capture this shot:
-
Sadly not... Since squad seems to think that we the players should decide the history of the planets in the kerbal system, so they stay away from life and keep the science very vague. To me that makes science pretty much uselss as it is all the same vague biomes on any planet where you learn nothing interesting. I want science/career mode to teach me more about the history of the solar system as well as having some rare hidden biomes like for example microbal life for us to find.

Squadcast Summary 2015/09/11 - Max's Coccyx
boxman replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I really hope they release unity5 version first and then the extra content in a later patch. That way the unity5 port will be properly tested by the large playerbase, so that eventual bugs can be caught before 1.1 is released. And will also give modders more time to get their mods updated for 1.1 -
Really odd how the video was just made private. I really think someone from squad or nintendo should clarify what the heck is going on.
-
Dont know if you are being serious or not.. But if you click the actual youtube link for this video, you will see that it was posted on the official Nintendo youtube channel. ;\ - - - Updated - - - And that is pretty much the only positive. Otherwise it has as low end cpu as last generation consoles and is a platform where every third party games fail to make profits, as the few people who own the Wii U only buys first party nintendo games. So even if by some miracle it actually runs on that system, it will not sell well at all and is doomed for failure. On top of that you have now a tiny company with the only trackrecord being SIMPLE smartphone games that all look the same handling 3 ports at the SAME TIME. We dont even know if they can handle one system and yet they are porting it to 3 different systems and one of them having a completely different architecture.
-
You would think so... But then turns out it was posted on the official Nintendo channel.... I really hope I am just having a nightmare right now and will wake up to reality soon.
-
Sigh... I expected this to be a hoax, but it turns out it is not. How the heck are they going to get it even running on that low end cpu?? And why not let this unproven company that does the porting job at least prove themselves capable of porting to the next generations systems before starting on yet another system?? I fear that all these decisions will be the end of Squad and KSP. Wii U port is for sure doomed to failure as no third party games are selling well on that console and it is not going to get better now that nintendo has announced a new system. This makes absolutely no sense... They make good games, but their management is really all over the place

What brand of GPU do you use to play KSP?
boxman replied to Red Iron Crown's topic in KSP1 Discussion
@Red Iron Crown Looks like you were wrong But anyways... Another nvidia user here with a 970 gtx - - - Updated - - - It is still pretty absymal performance. There was a recent benchmark that showed that the most high end AMD gpus were outpeformed by the cheap mid range 750ti both with propriety drivers and the open source ones. Also big compitability issues with certain games. So I dont see why anyone would buy AMD if they are mainly using linux and are actually using it for games. -
Who do I have to bribe to get stock hinges?
boxman replied to borzwazie's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
It was there even before 0.9.. Was according to Yargnit most likely coming within a few releases as they just had to fix those bugs. Instead nothing happened.. My guess is that whoever was responsible was fired/replaced and it has since been forgotten about. -
Who do I have to bribe to get stock hinges?
boxman replied to borzwazie's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I have been asking this question for YEARS myself. Where are the stock hinges, ball bearings/rotors? They said years ago that they wanted to release individual parts, instead of full fledged parts like bays with baydoors so that people can be more creative, but instead years later they actually do release bays with doors that open and close. If they had instead released these as individual parts, then we could have used the hinges/hydralics in a more creative way that they were never intended for. So really we do need some more simple stock parts, so that we can be creative and create something unique. Another thing I dont get is why we have no windows or at least a way to change panels to be transparent. I myself would want to make even the cockpits/pods from scratch, but to do that you would need some form of glass. Bases would look much nicer and realistic as well if we had glass windows. -
My Minmus base mission made me change my mind about multiplayer
boxman replied to ShadowZone's topic in KSP1 Discussion
All you need to prevent that is allow servers to have a toggle to set your sihps/creations to be indestructable. And if you have a private server with trusted friends then this would be a no issue. -
Since I prefer to make things from scratch I would go with the welding plugin always. I like to make unique ships and contraptions, so making it from scratch allows me to be more creative instead of just using prebuilt. This is why I am dissapointed that the cargobays was released as a full package instead of just individual parts that you yourself can use the way you want. I would love to have the hinge for doors as a part instead, so I can make my own cargobays instead and that would allow for you to be creative and use these parts for things they were never designed for. A hinge could have so many uses. I hope we one day get more stock strucutral panels to build with, as there has really been no new individual building parts like that since ages ago. Another thing I have wanted for ages is a way to change panels to be transparent or have some kind of glass parts, as that would allow me to even make my own pods/cockpits.

Squadcast Summary 2015/08/07 - The Duna Attempt
boxman replied to Superfluous J's topic in KSP1 Discussion
It might be a good idea to actually let the public test the unity5 ports before releasing 1.1 with even more additional features. And they also already said that this is what they might do. - - - Updated - - - It seems like no one really does... They all use completely different standards. - - - Updated - - - At least that would give modders time to mostly have mods ready for 1.1. And to even add the features of 1.1, I would think unity5 build would be pretty necesarry as they have been developed around the new engine. I personally think it is best to release unity5 before 1.1 if it is ready, so that there wont be any more unexpected unity5 bugs showing up during 1.1 release. I also bet that one reason why mods are slow to update these days is because they know they have to make huge changes with the coming unity5 version, so getting that out the door might even make that situtation better. -
I have been stuck in that rut for like a year now and will probably not play it seriously before unity 5 64bit version is out and stable. I have a feeling that is one of the reasons many mods have not updated yet either, since they know they will most likely have to rewrite alot of it when unity 5 build is released. - - - Updated - - - The whole point of 1.0 was supposed to be to have a feature complete game that does not change so much between each version that saves and mods keep breaking. So to me 1.0 was a huge dissapointment. They should have waited until after unity5 and after some serious bug testing period and optimization, to make sure that bugs like memory leaks are not happening anymore. Instead what they delivered was the least optimized version ever with loads of game breaking bugs and balance issues.
-
To get this result with a low part craft, then pretty much any cpu will do as long as you have at least a gtx 750ti or better and with minimum 6gigs of ram. If you get a nvidia card you can also use shadowplay instead which will consume way less resources than bandicam or fraps. I personally would get something better so you are more future proof though. Once KSP goes unity5 it should be able to push your GPU much further than it does now.
-
Mods are already pushing it over the limit so even 2megs extra will be a really horrible idea right now. This is how we got to this point in first place... They kept adding stuff that added a few megs extra here and there and now we are to the point where there are serious memory issues. If they are going to add more they better fix those memory leaks issues and optimize the other stuff before adding more.
-
This just shows that something has gotten ALOT worse over the last few versions. There was a time when you could run up to a thousand parts before it would start dipping to 10fps or lower. Now it seems like even high end computer struggle with 200-300 parts, even though that once ran smooth with nearly all systems. I personally feel this started becoming noticeable around the time when KSP started using fake fullscreen. This is probably more noticeable to those of us who have taken long breaks..
-
Even though it does not act like water I still prefer the look of the pool water.
-
Like I said earlier in this thread.. I have 16giggs of ram and even tried copying the entire game and launching it from a ram disk. It makes very little difference at all. I think the only people who notice a difference are those with 4gigs or less of ram, have a slow 5400rpm drive or run it from the same disk as the OS is on. Of course plenty of other reasons to upgrade to SSD, but KSP in itself will not benefit much from it no matter how fast it is.
