  1. Hello! Glad to have you! Don't be afraid to chime in on posts that interest you. This is one of the friendliest communities I've seen and it's the only forum I've been active on for any real length of time.
  2. Howdy! And thanks so much for contributing to the community! Modders of all levels of experience are welcome, and you can definitely learn a thing or two from this community. Lotta smart brains around here!
  3. So glad to be of help! You have O/S disc(s) ready to go? Any data to restore from the old hard drives? Otherwise, it sounds like you've covered everything. Good luck on first boot!
  4. An early episode of Robotech/Macross had them using an energy shield system where the shields themselves were tiny in comparison to the ship and were moved around the ship's surface to intercept incoming missiles. The operators controlling the shields moved them by frantically rolling trackballs, which was kind of funny. Trying to find pics or a clip...
  5. No problem. They're designed to sit flush on there, and you might never notice that the end piece comes off. I've torn apart and rebuilt a few laptops over the years, and ran across this when I wanted to transfer someone's data from a crashed system.
  6. Grab some replacement ramen noodles, on me, then. Oh! Note that those hard drives might have adapters on their ends to fit the connections in the laptop. You may need to use a screwdriver or thin edge to pop off the adapter to expose the standard SATA connection beneath. I'm trying to find a picture to describe what I mean... EDIT: Like the adapter being sold on this page: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/FREE-SHIPPING-Laptop-Hard-Drive-Connector-for-2PCS-HP-Pavilion-DV6000-DV9000-SATA-New-High-Quality/828249524.html scroll down to see front/back images. This happens to be one that fits Dell laptops, so maybe(?) you have something similar attached to the drives you removed. Side note: I'm not a big fan of aliexpress (good place to get scammed), I just landed there from a google image search.
  7. I love those moments when your designs are floating in just the right way with the Sun, planet, and moon aligned. It's a good shot. I'm sure you'll get more nice ones as you go. Taking random screenshots is how I got my beloved avatar image of Jeb enjoying the heck out of his jetpack on Minmus.
  8. Congrats! Last night, I just finished putting together a 30km polar orbiting Mun station (screens are on my home PC, sadly). In the process, I reused the same Mun tug to move every module from Low Kerbin Orbit to the station, so I did a whole bunch of those direct launch-to-rendezvous maneuvers (refueling tankers and the modules themselves meeting up with the tug). Fun! Love your results! hope the ship goes far!
  9. Hey Whackjob, I just submitted a small amount to put toward what's left for your PC build! I'm not made of money and I do have a wedding coming up (expensive affair, let me tell you!), but everyone should have the gaming rig they deserve. Only request is: if you're serious about a tattoo, that you share the design you go with. I'm considering getting a few tattoos myself, and a KSP-inspired design could be amazing, especially if it's something the KSP community begins sharing. Otherwise, just do a streaming event for the community (if feasible). Everyone loves your work! Don't get frustrated if the PC build doesn't work on the first power-on. I hate that suspenseful moment and the troubleshooting that follows when it doesn't work right away.
  10. Dare you to play this during it: One of the most boring movies ever featured on MST3K: Not to downplay what you guys are up to. This is awesome!
  11. Howdy! You'll find all kinds of great stuff on these forums. Tips, tricks, screenshots, stories, ideas for challenges, tutorials, you name it. One of the best (and friendliest) forums I've seen.
  12. Hi! Hope you enjoy the community as much as you enjoy the game! I do! There are lots of non-native English speakers here. Don't worry about it, just have fun!
  13. I'm trying really hard to come up with a use for this. If you create a reliable pseudo-docking port, say one with a little cube strut stuck on it, you could use this to loosely connect objects in the field... Essentially a docking port that will automatically release if sufficient force separates the two. Only thing I can think of would be vehicles that can be separated by being struck in particular ways with less force than would destroy the parts... Maybe some targets for a bumper-cart challenge? Lol, I'm reaching here. Maybe it's a way to create a stock rotating hinge/bearing/whatever-it's-called? (Brain is currently mush after 8 hours of work). This would be temporary since the whole contraption would probably fall apart after time warp or even losing focus, but still...
  14. Ditto, the only use I have had for docking mode so far was for rovers. 3 problems with docking mode: -The fact that the spacebar changes function between the two modes (and one of those functions can ruin your mission if used accidentally). -WASDQE is already mapped in my brain as rotation controls, so switching modes is confusing (at least to me). -Rotation control can be used in conjunction with translation control, why should I use only one at a time by constantly toggling? (unless you are a one-handed amputee, in which case, I'm glad there's an option for you!) To each their own, though. There may be people who find it more intuitive than I do, or prefer keeping one hand on the mouse and the other on the keyboard, or find some other use for it (rovers).
  15. Bob has suffered through so many indignities. Being the least stupid of the grand trio, I'm amazed he continues to put up with it. Still, any kerbal is liable to find their head stuck in a hatch or engine bell at some point in their career...
  16. Howdy! Hope you enjoy the community as much as the game itself. I sure do.

    Hai!

Huh, URL-only should have worked, but so long as you can copy/paste, I guess you're good though. Ha! I didn't even pay attention to which image I was linking. That was a fun one. Made for this challenge: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/69931-The-VERY-Longfellow It was very funny to try to fly.

    Hai!

Very cool. I have a friend who knows English, Japanese, and Korean all fluently and she makes money on the side translating text. I, myself only speak English and a tiny sliver of Spanish. For a single image, you can use the "Insert Image" icon in the reply window. It will automatically generate the BBCode to link an image. You just need to paste in the URL you get from Imgur that should look like this: http://i.imgur.com/ETXW6ZU.png Imgur also gives you the exact BBCode to copy paste into a post, so you can use that as well (it's just the URL surrounded by IMG tags). Hope that helps!

    Hai!

Hi and welcome! Do you speak both languages fluently? Is there any story behind that, or is that just regular school learning? Do you know any other languages by chance? Pressing F1 in game will save a screenshot to your game's Screenshot folder. You can then upload that to a file sharing service. Imgur is very popular on these forums, since it's free and there is a BBCode tag for embedding Imgur albums directly in posts: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/36010-Introducing-the-Ability-to-Embed-Imgur-Albums!
  20. This has me giggling. I love all the moving parts and rocket stabilizers. I'm going to have to play with infernal robotics one of these days. Such fun stuff is possible. And I only just noticed you're new to the forum, welcome!
  21. I don't think there's any .cfg edit that will do that, unfortunately. Best suggestion without getting complicated would be to manually adjust the part that is obsolete once you've researched the element in question, although this will hide the part no matter which save you load... A similar idea would be to try using module manager. You could create some preset modifications to .cfg files ahead of time, then when the research you're waiting for hits, drop the module manager file into your gamedata folder to have it hide the part(s) you want. Then, resetting the changes is as simple as removing the module manager file from gamedata.
  22. I think why you see gravity assists happen less is that you need the assisting body to be in the right place at the right time, which requires some time warping, luck, and maneuver node tweaking. Kicking straight out of low orbit can be done pretty much anytime and fairly easily. Gravity assists, when aligned well, are always going to give you more bang for your buck, since you're getting added velocity essentially for free. I don't think anyone says that utilizing the oberth effect is better than using a gravity assist. It just means it's more efficient to increase your orbit when you're velocity is greatest (when close to an orbited body). In fact, you can utilize both at the same time, burning for a close moon encounter, then burning at the moon periapse to help kick yourself out to solar orbit (I have not run any numbers, maybe this could be more efficient than burning entirely at Kerbin and having the moon arc you out?). Again, this takes some timing and maneuver node tweaking, but there's no reason you couldn't set up something like this with a little patience. [Edit: Ninja'd]
  23. Maybe someone can find a link to verify this, but I thought I had read or heard from the devs somewhere that the grapple is being designed to grab onto all kinds of things (not just asteroids). Kerbal-snatching, anyone?
  24. "I don't know what it is, but I want one!" -Jebediah There must be something genius about the design, because it baffles me. Upside-down radial engines, separatrons mounted on a "jeb-seat" fuel tank, and 2 kinds of landing legs... I assume it's another VTOL/lander/rover? Whatever it is, it looks awesome.
  25. That is a very Kerbal contraption. Well done!
