  1. TheHengeProphet, sorry about that, entirely forgot to add you to the list, though you were clearly awarded the K Prize above so I hope you saw that and did not think it was related to the fuel bug. I have already said more than once that the fuel bug is fair game in v16 to counter the landing issues. Personally I am disappointed that both those bugs remain outstanding when there is a good patching system in place. IMHO current version play experience should be given a higher priority. Suffice to say I am waiting for v17 and occupying myself beta testing other games so I apologise for being a bit distracted. At the end of the day I am only human and occasionally I am slightly incompetent, which goes for us all I rather suspect!! iplop, that's a handsome craft and a good orbit. Does it have a name and have you managed to land it in one piece?
  2. djnekkid, sorry I missed out your entertaining video set to the strains of "Mario Kart 7 - Rainbow World" ! That was an intriguing workaround you used to disable the aerospike without decoupling it, well played. You did indeed complete the K Prize mission and earned the coveted advanced pilot precision award for landing at runway 27 (the other end of runway 09). While there is no prize specifically for this, the fact that you set it as your goal and did not give up until you achieved it deserves recognition and since you requested recognition for it I made a unique mention of it on the Roll of Honour aka the guest list. Thanks for posting your video and congratulations to you and your team! Exclipse, thanks for explaining and in the light of that explanation there can be no doubt that you take your rightful place on the Roll of Honour and are a very welcome guest at the K-Prize party. Thanks again for the vid and participating in the challenge and would be interested to watch any further records of the adventures of EX0-1. zekes, well done with your latest mission and thanks for the screenies. Since the magnificent Zokesia Precision Lifter 1 made a precise landing on the runway before taxiing off you have earned the prestigious Advanced Pilot Precision Award... yaaay!
  3. zekes, thanks for explaining, I know the terrain outside KSC is almost impossible to land on in v16 as I have tried and watched many craft disintegrate myself, so you have my sympathies for the first attempt and congratulations on completing the K-Prize mission successfully with your 100% reusable craft on your second. You are the right stuff! Your name is on the guest list, aka Roll of Honour, welcome to the party. (btw mechjeb is allowed by the rules see below.) Exclipse, thanks for clarifyin. Would be interested by a Mün or Minmus mission, X-Wing looks capable. I understand tired, I get very tired and confused sometimes due to an illness I have so I can sympathise with that. And in a way because of that tiredness my dilemma remains. Obviously the apogee is much higher than required and I cannot see the parts cut from the video and I do believe whatever you tell me but when you say it reached much higher then required I am not quite sure if you understand about the rule that the PE also has to be above 70,000m as well as the AP. (Alternatively leaving Kerbin SOI and entering another also qualifies.) I feel I should explain to make sure there is no doubt. Its just that from 11 mins onwards the velocity, altitude and elapsed time numbers in the vid of the X-Wing's orbit all correspond with a 62,000m PE, according to the elliptical orbit tab in KSP calculator! Hence my dilemma. So I am not sure if you understood the PE rule or whether you made a burn and retro burn, in the 5 mins you cut, which cancelled each other out but raised the PE briefly, or even whether you successfully landed another mission where the PE was above 70,000m. Either of the last two is a K Prize whereas the first is an unintentional gate crash ! Sorry if I seem pedantic, its just I tend to have to force myself to think clearly to counter my illness and I hate to make mistakes where other people are concerned, its almost an obsession!!
  4. Last 48 hours of the kickstart begin now. Pledge $40 and test the beta.
  5. zekes, well done on making a successful SSTO spaceplane. I hate to ask this but when you said it was damaged did you complete the whole mission and come to a stop without losing any parts...? Because losing parts is another one of the things that gets people onto the (in)famous gate crashers list! TheHengeProphet, congratulations on completing the K Prize mission successfully with your innovative elongated craft SF-1. Thanks for the screenies which clearly show the orbit PE >70km and precise landing on the runway which earns you the prestigious 'advanced pilot precision award'. Welcome to the party! Exclipse, thanks very much for your video of the stylish X-Wing SSTO spaceplane in action. Clearly it is a good contender for completing the K Prize challenge and looks like it could meet the requirements. The only question is whether you are claiming to have completed the mission. As we are on the honour system your word would be assurance enough but I have to ask because you have not said explicitly that you have and FYI I cannot tell from the video if you have or not as the PE in the video was never higher than 70km which the orbital path of the craft demonstrated when it returned to Kerbin without a retro burn. Also the craft did not come to a halt fully landed and intact. Both are conditions of the prize. So I hope you can see my dilemma, on the strength of the video you have certainly earned a place on the gate crashers list but I will wait for your reply. Suzaku, good luck with that then!! Have you had any more thoughts about the K Prize and v17 advanced spaceplane challenges?
  6. Well done Jakinbandw on constructing your interesting spaceplane and completing the challenge. I like the open structure of the craft and the effective use of struts So Suzaku did you land the 400 tonner successfully then? As far as I know there are no ethical objections to the use of parachutes! All I can say Zekes is your spaceship needs more dV.
  7. Well played vXSovereignXv, that was a very precise landing. Congratulations on successfully completing the K Prize challenge mission. Your unwavering persistance has earned a well deserved place on the guest list for the party at the Dog and Booster aka the roll of honour and your precise landing deserves the special kudos of an Advanced Pilot Precision Award without a doubt.
  8. yes sorry blspblackdeath I got them mixed up, my bad! EndlessWaves, wow that is big one, I think you got the new v16 maximalist record!
  9. Its a good mission and a very precise landing but a little rough and explodey, even if you landed without the fireworks ditching the aerospike breaks the rules of the K prize because then it is only 99% reusable, I am guessing you knew the answer before you asked the question! Very definitely qualifies as a gate crash event however. Thanks for the video, liked the music and thanks very much for the credit blspblackdeath, that is a very compact and purposeful looking craft and you flew it well. I am perfectly convinced you did it all just as the pictures show and I am well aquainted with the full/empty fuel tank bug so I have no hesitation whatsoever in awarding you the highly prestigious Astrokerbal Distinction (v16) and advanced pilot precision award for a mission well flown. Welcome to the party guest list, aka K Prize roll of honour.
  10. If you want to do it Suzaku then I will be happy to let you take over and improve on it for v17 according to your own lights. Since you are clearly interested by SSTOs I think you would be a good person to do it. Blue II has nice clean lines that1guy, I see you got it into orbit, are you able to land it in one piece as well? (For a place on the roll of honour...) Very nice VTOL SSTO bsalis, it does qualify for the K Prize if all the lift surfaces and tanks and engines are stock. Are they? Using damned robotics is perfectly OK as long as this does not include any flying parts, ditto mechjeb etc.
  11. Quoting myself feels weird... IMHO TheHengeProphet its OK to push that bug till it squeaks! I dont know, if you want to help then your first task could be to ask a mod about that, as a principle. I am guessing the answer is not, unless you are given mod powers which probably cannot be restricted to a single post or thread but would be glad to be proved wrong. It would be nice to set up a cooperative thread which allows several administrators to do what I am doing with this one. I will keep it going unless a better option turns up and someone worth their salt wants to take over or share the K Prize and make a decent job of it. I dont want to hand it over and watch it die of neglect. On the other hand I would happily give it up to someone who can look after it. I only did it because it is the obvious challenge for v15+ and noone else was doing it... as my duty to the human race and the future of space travel! IMHO we are rehearsing challenges here that could become elements of the campaign. If you wanted to make an advanced spaceplane challenge 'beyond the K Prize' so to speak, then that sounds great and pretty much inevitable. That could either be entirely separate and have its own rules or it could integrate the K Prize within it as a first step. It strikes me that a total relaunch would give the opportunity to change some of the rules such as allowing mods as a default and simply giving kudos for stock as opposed to the stock only restriction. Also it would allow the redefining of rules to include payload drop and refuel missions etc which would be fine IMHO. I dont use mods so it would be better if someone who knows mods did that. Then this K Prize thread could be linked in that thread and this thread could be locked for posterity and I would become a happy spectator. If noone wants to take it on then I will keep going because it is so obvious that this challenge should be here to give players who want to make a spaceplane something to shoot for, IMHO. Does that make sense?
  12. vXSovereignXv, that was a very worthy flight, orbit and landing right up to the point where your mechjeb blew up before you stopped. You are duly recognised as a fully fledged gate crasher! I realise its not really your fault, it is because of the way that terrain beyond KSC destroys craft when you try to land because the wheels sink inside the collision surface, but thems the rules and this bug is the v16 downside to the v16 throttle/fuel bug advantage so IMHO we have to fly around it. I think the terrain must have caught the mechjeb slung underneath. Suggest landing at KSC, it is flat there also suggest F5 just before reentry in case it goes wrong so you can F9 if it does. I feel sure you can complete the mission successfully with that craft if you so desire. Suzaku, what did you have in mind? Would you like to integrate the K Prize into a spaceplane challenge with additional goals? EDIT, T10, looks good, congrats on a precise landing earning you an advanced pilot precision award (I am assuming that you landed on the strip and did not taxi there!!) and a successful K Prize mission (I am assuming the orbit was at one point all outside the atmosphere ie PE > 70km).
  13. ... it can't get back though. Will send fuel to fix that. Thanks for the screeny bsalis. Your ship is well and truely in orbit and my magnifying glass must be wonky! That refuel mission sounds like fun. I dont want to be seen as misleading people as it worries me someone might get the wrong end of the stick, so just wanted to clarify that as far as the K Prize is concerned IMHO the stock fuel clause means it has to be done on one fuel load, so refuelling between launches on Kerbin is in the spirit of the K Prize if tanks are stock, refuelling on the Mün is very clever and more advanced and is not covered by the K Prize which is about a taking a reusable spaceplane to orbit and back on one fuel load. So mid flight refuelling is gate crashing, but very cool gate crashing. IMHO I still think someone else should start up an advanced spaceplane challenge thread for 17.
  14. bsalis, on your word of a good >70km orbit then (because I cannot read the screeny PE which looks like 14,343m through a magnifying glass!) I have added a Zanix link after your previous entry on the honours roll.
  15. Well played a7i20ci7y and thanks for the new video mission report. Congratulations on completing the K-Prize mission successfully with another very precise landing from a more than adequate orbit, proving if proof were needed that your Advanced Pilot Precision Award is well deserved as is your place on the roll of honour aka the guest list. I have left your gate crashers entry as per your request. Attachments have been pretty borked since the move. GL with that. You may be OK with a fresh account but I cant post a thing.
  16. Thanks for the video of your spaceplane mission a7i20ci7y, Sidzor's spacewalk looked fun and your landing was skillful. I added a your name to the gate crashers list (which is there to acknowledge noteworthy missions which dont quite meet the rules) because of the interesting non stock lift off boosters. Otherwise the landing would deserve an advanced pilot precision award, obviously that's entirely your call. Every contribution appreciated. Thanks again.
  17. Well played Coldie. Congrats on your splendid achievement of converting your airliner into a spaceplane getting it into a respectable orbit and then flying it back to the KSC terrain and landing intact. Your successfully completed mission does indeed merit a pilot proficiency medal according to the rules of the challenge and I am pleased to be able to add this award alongside your name on the guest list of K-Prize winners. I did also mention your airliner conversion as per your request so that readers of the thread who are interested by that can take a look. bsalis, thanks for your heads up about the fuel transfer mod, that is very interesting. I agree with you ambientmic that the refuel mod is worthy of being included in a challenge, but the K-Prize challenge is a self evident challenge of the stock game and is complex enough for a novice to master already and I dont want to change its nature halfway through or make it any more complicated. Hebdomad was suggesting more advanced spaceplane challenges involving payloads and I agree there is scope for more advanced spaceplane challenges. If either of you want to set one up and look after it you should go ahead and do it. I have enough on my plate keeping up with this one! I would be happy to mention any K Prize inspired advanced spaceplane challenge threads in the intro.
  18. Yup OK Suzaku, I missed that but I think your Exelion craft does weigh a bit more than Sean Mirrsen's Radiant 2 as it has a lot of FL-T400 liquid fuel tanks, whereas his uses fewer lighter fuselage type tanks, I am not entirely sure as I dont have a figure for Seans craft so unless Sean wants so challenge this you have the altitudinalist and maximalist record for v16 (unless I have missed something ). I tried out your Gnat, it is a very forgiving flier but was tricky to land because of the infiniglide bug but it does land on the runway, I am assuming you are posting it because you managed to land it and are making a claim for the minimalist title, is that right or should I wait a bit? Nice looking jet plane there Coldie, gl with the landing .
  19. Thanks T2Cross, that's what I was wondering and meant to ask you. Hence the stewards inquiry, that is still a Pilot Proficiency Medal though and a pretty good shot for such a small bird.
  20. Suzaku my apologies, you were for a few fleeting days the unofficial v16 minimalist record holder, owing to my disarray thanks to a heavy cold I failed to update the thread at the critical juncture and now T2Cross has won it from you, but well played to both for your innovative designs. On catching up and looking over recent contributions I see you ninja'd a video into an earlier post which I must have just missed. Thanks for this record of your crafts journey to Minmus and graceful landing accompanied by an elevating musical score. Must admit I did lol at the end... Congratulations on your Astrokerbal Distinction. T2Cross congratulations on completing the mission with Pygmy, you have unquestionably earned your place on the roll of honour aka the guest list and due to the exceedingly small size of the craft you have become the current minimalist record holder for v16. bsalis your fuel transfer modding is true to the spirit of the K Prize and the fuel truck is a nice touch, so I have given it a special mention in the honours list. If you wanted to share some details that would be interesting eg how did you do it, did you hax the persistence file or do you have a better method? SargeRho thanks very much for your video record of your flight and congratulations on completing the mission successfully with the very effective S1 Valkyrie. Also well done on achieving a landing so close to the KSC which qualifies you for the highly regarded Pilot Proficiency Medal. EndlessWaves, that is a big ship with some interesting innovations for parachute assisted landing, in particular I cant help wondering if those landing struts might permit a Minmus landing, do you think? Anyway thanks for the mission photo record and congratulations on your crafts safe return which has earned you a place on the roll of honour. Welcome to the party everyone. And you can be sure that Kay Kool has personally instructed the bouncers to treat all guests with the deference and respect due to aerospace experts and geeks extraordinaire....! Commiserations Coldie on your engineering issues, making a spaceplane is a serious business (naaat!) sorry to hear the rumours about gate crashing. Good luck resolving the technical difficulties.
  21. Yes I think they will make it past gas giants with cash to spare. Hope so. Here is their btw.
  22. Count me in. It looks fun, but replayability will all hinge on the gameplay. I hope it is filled with cunning strats and anti-strats. I went looking for the Planetary Annihilation thread in the Games Games Games subforum yesterday and didnt see it there so I started one but now I feel foolish.
  23. And thank-you too...! Thanks also bsalis for the additional info, I have added your name with post link and craft name to the roll of honour aka guest list at the beginning of the thread. Building a spaceplane is trickier than it looks isnt it? Congratulations on your accomplishment and thanks for sharing it with the K Prize thread.
  24. Grats Suzaku, nice mission run and impressive control on the landing. Definitely deserving of an advanced pilot precision award. Since you gave us two videos and made a special request you can keep your gate crasher entry as per your request as well as be named on the guest list roll of honour. bsalis, great looking spaceplane and nice images, thanks for your report. I just want to check with you that you are claiming a completed mission before adding your entry to the honours list and that your orbit periapsis therefore rose above the 36km which is evident in the mechjeb readout of your "Rocket Action" screeny, to some value exceeding 70km ? This is because the game will declare the craft is in orbit when it is in the atmosphere, so I cannot be completely certain which definition of "orbit" you are using in you spoiler tag "In Orbit". Your word is good enough as I have said to others, you simply need to utter it. Its just that the screenies are not completely self-evident and you have not explicitly said you completed the mission, so it would be wrong of me to assume you meant to but didnt, if you see what I mean, seeing as near misses are a way of life on the Kerbal Space Program!
  25. Sorry for not updating earlier, my cold became bronchitis and I feel like someone used my chest for a launchpad, but I am feeling a bit better today. As for the rocket throttle glitch I dont think it should be looked on as a cheat. Its in the game, hasnt been patched and its almost impossible not to use it so IMHO its perfectly OK to use it and allowance has been made for the advantage it brings by creating a separate honours list for this version. In fact I would encourage players to understand and exploit it to the fullness of their ability because in v17 it will be gone so we may as well have some fun with it while it is here. I dont think the fuel use and thrust to mass ratios of rockets are properly balanced for 100% throttle anyway in v16 and will need rebalancing when the bug is removed so really its not as if the bug is breaking an otherwise realistic computer model IMHO, meanwhile I have made some weird ships fly exploiting this bug. Business as usual for v17 I hope. Suzaku, I am looking forward to your video of your interstellar SSTO. I like the South Kerbalandium K-15 Recordbreaker launch mechanism a lot but unfortunately the rule about horizontal take off is definitely broken if that is the way you took off for the challenge. My keen eye and penchant for Sherlock Holmes stories leads me to the inescapable deduction that this was how it took off Since the landing struts are extended and the ship is over the start of the runway just after liftoff !! So you have been awarded a place on the gatecrashers (rule breakers) list, for now! However that will change when I see your video including successful landing and all your past nefarious activities will be forgiven and forgotten... (I hope you find that acceptable and that all readers understand the light humour and friendly intent with which this award is given). Guard13007, thanks for your screens and entertaining video of your innovatively constructed SSTO spaceplane. You definitely fulfilled the challenge and passed the test with flying colours, landing with great skill on a difficult terrain in the dark. So you undoubtedly deserve a place on the roll of honour aka the guest list.
