Eve also happens to be, strategically, probably one of the best planets to own, high gravity and close proximity to kerbin, as well as more frequent transfer windows than duna make it good for slingshots also I agree, its beautiful. EDIT: also zekes, how many parts/ how heavy? Try to get it over 1kT for laughs. -

To further secure the Tyrene claim to Dres, and thereby ensure lucidity in this matter to any war councils in the future, I have put some civilian structures on Dres. A pair of Drill stations on the surface and a grand station in orbit, Serenity, will provide anyone making the hard trip out to dres ample fuel for further travels or a return trip, though Dres' inclined orbit prevents it from being anything close to an ideal halfway house, and thereby a location of low strategic value. This does however allow us to make our own value from it, as a bastion world, and KIDA command would like to see it heavily fortified. But these are future plans. The debris of the recent battle remains, for the most part. The largest part of the remaining battle fleet have made their way home (Hades, Oak, and Guardian), leaving TDN Kerberus, a Co-21D and the pair of Scarabs, TDN Ash and TDN Brute. Keberus has been made the command ship in the system, though our main concern is fuel pirating from serenity right now. -
restart the game. beta is beta, ksp is glitchy sometimes.

whys that? KSC needs defending, surely. Almost all of the series' combat has been around kerbin. -
And yeah, this thread is in the wrong place!

This will not help, and is contrived, one big issue with having fighter swarms is that only one ship may be targeted at a time, going in order of class does not make a difference, as strikecraft go first... what you want to do is either: 1. keep the macey rules, but have fighters only capable as acting on behalf of a carrier, so they will go in the carrier's turn, as if they were its weapons. (this still does not entirely fix the problem.) 2.keep the macey rules, but fleet composition is arranged by class not by weight (this could lead to some problems) 3.Do away with the macey rules on shooting, instead something like this that Ive proposed a few times in the past: allowing bigger ships to blow away fighter swarms, and steering combat away from ships with one (absolutely enormous) shot and hopefully making the game more involved.

This is how it tends to go: Step 1- arrange battle with opponent Step 2- Defender hyperedits his fleet (of a pre-agreed size) into position Legitimately capable is vague. I guess if you were being really stuck up you could ask your opponent to prove they can pilot all their ships to the destination, but generally if it has the dV or potential for expandng its dV to the required amount, youre fine. No one has had reinforcement fleets in any past fights, so far it has just been 2 groups face off. Step 3 Attacker does the same. Step 4 fleets pew pew each other until nothing is left but kessler syndrome. -

Well the thing is, firstly we dont really have a decent repertoire of planetside units secondly the circumstances for the battle seem odd, maybe in the future the attackers, if they get through orbital defenses can initiate a land/sea battle thirdly, what I meant by the I beam remark; isnt it simpler for us to attack from orbit, drop something heavy on you and be done with it than drop something heavy on you but slow it down at the last moment, detach small pieces of it and send them going at you very quickly. IMO For a planetside force to actually have an impact on an invasion, it should have surface-orbit weapons (not exactly easy on eve) which scare enemy ships off and prevent them from stationing civilian ships and operations on the world, forcing an engagement. -
Yes, you're allowed to do that.
-
If were talking about todays systems I would go even further, and venture to say jamming, electronic warfare and hacking far outstrip any actual weapons or armour in potential effectiveness.
-
Trust me I know all about debris after that exchange with zekes I had. 4 ships went down, 3 of which got torn to shreds (the combined mass of all 4 was ~680T) the 18k orbit around dres in that save is just insane. Also considering the current early days state of pvp, we have bigger fish to fry in terms of rules.

That "interceptor" must weigh over 20T -
Read the page. It does not. Any active or not even recently active piece of electronics will make your crouching tiger ninja ship radiate energy in ways that rocks and twisted metal do not. The distraction ships just get pew pew'd first. Personally I quite like the idea of emps and hacking, cyberwarfare and such causing warships to have to revert to analogue, and it all goes to ww2 submarine style combat. Sci fi authors, make it happen.

Didnt you lose eve to us? If so expect an I beam to be dropped from orbit on your boat... -

looks good! -
Because we were talking about realistic situations (or at least I was ) I guess you could name them "XYZ ship probe probe probe probe" that would probably throw me off the scent lol.

Yep. All empires are imperial. Mail means armour, not chain. You have chain mail, scale mail, plate mail etc etc. -
but thats ksp, which is not exactly the same as real life whats to stop me pew pewing all three?
-
So If I understand you right you mean put a bunch of fighters in place that look like bits of debris? Again, youll be too hot to pass yourself off as debris. (unless its the debris of a recently destroyed ship, which would be what I would assume I had seen, therefore get rather frightened and be on high alert)
-
Im gonna be the devils advocate here: stealth vessels are not possible. Residual heat from firing your engines or using any system aboard your ship will make you stick out like a sore thumb from a debris field etc etc. There aint no stealth in space. Also camulus, that page is written by the nyrath guy I mentioned on your youtube video.

extremely effective ordinance is a little too abundant right now imo it doesnt seem to matter how much iron you pile on, you cant stop a 15, 20, 30 ton bundle of joy wrecking you in this game, full stop. Also this would hopefully open up a new role in an escort style ship that takes on multiple fighters at once.

Whats your opinion on the rule of shooting one target with everything? On the Navalbattle thread I earlier suggested a system of firing weapons by weight: Do you think that sort of thing would be a step in the right direction? Thereby negating the effectiveness of ships that are just shrouds for missiles cough *zekes* cough. (But hey, I gotta push the KIDA advantage somehow). Also I like how its the usual suspects on this thread XD
