KIDI- Kerbal Interplanetary Defence Initiative
Sliinty replied to sodopro's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
s'true. My missiles tend to hit over 400m/s if possible, I use structural parts as armour penetrators, but at any high speed it doesnt really make a difference, as whats happening is the round is phasing through some of the armour during timestep (sometimes even the entire ship, which is annoying as hell.) and just appearing inside the ship with a lot of kinetic energy. Though I'm starting to think that the only thing that really matters is weight, as damage done by high speed penetrators tends to be very unreliable on armoured targets. Heavy shots just shake everything to pieces. -

Don't worry, it now has 6 wheels. Oh and wings and jet engines. -
So recently I made a bus in ksp After attaching jets to it to drive faster I started thinking kerbal, "can I put wings on it and make it fly?" "Yes, yes I can." A little help from some rocket engines to kick the nose up and we're in the air, flying gracefully in exactly the way bricks do not. Bill's enjoying it anyway. Time to prank people by putting a bus somewhere in which they would not expect to find one! You know where we're headed. Coming in to land. If you're wondering whether it flies well I can tell you confidently that at the time of writing it is the easiest bus to fly that has ever been made. Err... Bill? Too bad. Announcing the mkII! Now with parachutes. I forgot to mention that the wings detach. Anyway from the lack of another screenie I think you can figure out whether it landed on flat ground or 60 degree incline for yourself. Will the B.F.B. return???!!!!! Who knows!

That may be true, but you would be hard pressed to use a krasher on laythe, kerbin, eve or tylo. Im not sure if they work on duna, I think the TWR is probably just high enough. Ill have to test that. -

Remember not to try to cook LV-Ns either, they hold up even better than wings O_o -

I just thought this was something worth sharing. Never to be outdone by the Zokeskians, I present the latest in munar surface equipment, the Kerbal Mechanised Infantry Unit, codenamed "the Krasher". Designed to strike hard and fast on unarmoured targets on the munar surface, no shock trooper should be without one, after all, tanks and howitzers are so 1942 Capable of travelling on wheels on smooth terrain for long distance travel, but primarily based around flying with its RCS jets. Carries 6 Radial decouplers as weapons, flies stably with and without them thanks to the new SAS. Craft file here -

A lot of people frown on it. Im fine with it as long as the ship is designed to ram, so you're confident the pilot will survive. If the pilot dies I think it's a bit of a faux pas. I guess confirm with your opponent before battle whether ramming is ok. -

Actually I've got to say that your capital ships were some of the toughest ships Ive seen. Though looking through the wreckage I have to say the Emperor was not hugely part count efficient, so many RCS ports and those wide I beams... -

Dammit I should have gone onto the forum before doing my go... just spent like 2 hours dealing with apocalag from all the debris, If you must know I fired 2 broadsides at the emperor, the first removed the command section and destroyed its docking port, the second shook apart the missiles in the aft section, I then rammed it, resulting in the complete destruction of the remaining rear section, but the TDN Ash was heavily damaged and on a suborbital trajectory, luckily the RCS was still functioning, so the pilot didnt have to bail out and try to circularise with EVA. EDIT: Yeah it seems that having a good fighter platform is important look at the RT hardshell and (no hubris here lol) my L-153, independently developed but actually somewhat similar in design, it's probably a good sort of shape for a fighter to have. -

Greetings, gentlemen, I will be your commander for the evening, speaking to you from the top secret KIDA command bunker. Time to begin the assault and rid Dres of the Zokeskians. breaking formation braking burn OPEN FIRE goodbye, duke of cambridge... Kenberry, the pilot of the TDN brute, had already been told he had the smallest ship on the field; all he was worried about was it getting even smaller, but at least he knew it was stylish, more so than the monolithic zokeskian designs anyway. He also knew his orders, "The princes are top priority, they must be destroyed as soon as possible", his nerves tingled as he burnt ahead of the main formation, and said not a word over the intercom between then and making his braking burn. As he lined up to take a shot with the starboard broadside volley, his commander, ever helpful, grunted over the intercom "dont miss". He pulled the trigger, from 1.6km out, aimed dead on at the Prince William. He did not miss. The missiles shrieked through the black, closing at over 400m/s directly at the prince's engine block. He saw a huge explosion (I saw 3, each space 1 second apart... laaag), and the Prince William had been rent asunder. Kenberry had a sudden moment of anxeity realising what had done, though he was later ensured that the enemy crew capsule had survived the blast. The brute fired no further ordinance; why bother kill a dead ship? Persistence -

I can tell you that the hangar needs some reworking... docking fighters in there summons the kraken... but it has other ports. -

The KIDA fleet is now in position. Just a couple of beauty shots: Composition: 2x RT Hardshell Turtle, TDN Guardian and TDN Oak 2x L-153 Scarab, TDN Ash and TDN Brute 2x Co-21D, TDN Kerberus and TDN Persephone 1x Chimera Class, TDN Hades TDN Hades is carrying 3 fireflies, one of which has an extension pack. The fireflies sit already deployed, just behind Hades as shown in the second image. Persistence Ill wager this is one of the largest fleet battles ever simulated in ksp.
