Holy wings... You know, the update made those wings far heavier than they were, and you've got a LOT of them. You also have a massive amount of drag with all of those scoop intakes. I think your SSTO needs to go on a diet. -
Cupcake's Dropship Dealership...
Cranium replied to Cupcake...'s topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Well since the SP+ parts have their own lifting properties, you might be able to fanangle something to have it fly properly. I've been working on getting something(anything) to work as a dropship in FAR. So far, the best I can make is some in-atmosphere craft, and making something properly SSTO in FAR without wings is a huge challenge. Now, that's not to say that it's impossible to make VTOL SSTOs in FAR. I've made a few, and for the most part, they work well, and look decent, but they're forced to have those darned wings. -

That is unneccesarily cute. I'm going to have to issue a citation for excessive squee. -
I made this a while ago, but I think it works well with the scope of this challenge. It's not very fast, because in FAR, the silly thing wants to flip right over going any faster than 15 m/s horizontally. The SAS units are the only thing that controls it, but since the pitch of the blades is controllable, I think it's entirely possible to get this thing to fly like a proper copter would, using only the lift differential from the various rotors. I might have to revisit this and see if I can get that set up, actually.

When posting imgur albums, you need to only include the album ID, which is whatever is after the a/, but without the page number -

Are you posting this from your time machine? -
If you're using Spaceplane Plus for your parts, right click on the cockpit, and it should have the option to turn the lights on.

I absolutely love my new SSTO. FAR approved, and capable of bringing about 2.5 tons of whatever you can shove in the front cargo bay to LKO. It's even got enough dV after reaching orbit to take you to Duna (but not back)

Only in KSP can you literally fly like a brick.

Extra points for flying that in FAR physics. -
My Lowrider. It's got hydraulics in front and back, and can bounce up and down to the music. I'll post a video of it soon enough.

I've been working on a FAR-approved flying V-wing, but so far, haven't had much luck. It just can't take those hypersonic speeds, unfortunately. Not enough control authority. Taking that design a bit further with the V-wings, I decided to make Zalmodia; a super stable SSTO designed to dock with my upcoming hyperspace ring, but I'm having trouble designing the ring properly. So far, if I put anything on the plane where I could dock to the ring, it causes lots of aerodynamic problems. -
I tried to give it a go from that sketch. This is the result: For some odd reason, FAR actually approves of the design
-
Yep, docking washers. I also have some hinges to increase or decrease the feathering of the props.I like making these crazy machines, and I plan on making more. Next up: Truck Simulator.

Does my quadcopter count as silly?

The album does not appear to be working, here's a link. That's because you're including the page number in the [imgur] tags. The #0 is the page number, so remove that, and the album works just fine. -

I've been helicopter crazy lately. -
YAY! I got another prototype working! I now also have what I now realize as a Cupcake-esque video. Using what I learned from previous attempts, I made a quadrocopter! It's actually quite nice to fly, and easy to handle (If you don't go too fast, that is...). Give it a try! http://puu.sh/9w697/3160ff898b.craft

I had a gantry crane made a while back, and I think it should work for what you want: -
I would love to get rid of the rocket engines on the blade tips, because with that, it's incredibly hard to sustain a long flight, since I run out of fuel so quickly. I'd like to swap out the free washer, and use the IR moving washer, but for some reason, I can't set speeds or keybindings to them. I wish there was some sort of useful tutorial for that. What I'd REALLY love, is to be able to set some sort of toggle on/off for the blades, and just adjust the speed and feathering as necessary.

Backstory: I wanted to make a helicopter. Simple, right? Let's go get Firespitter and strap on some parts from there. Problem: Those parts don't match well. They can't really be combined in an aesthetically pleasing manner with most other parts from other mods or even stock. Solution: Make my own propeller, with robotics and rockets. Result: The HELO X2 (Don't worry about X1...they're experimental builds for a reason...) It flies...okay, but is very difficult to control. Hence, the large amounts of SAS on it. It also can't go fast; and if it does, it wants to do a backflip. Also, it tends to want to land on random things: Craft file: http://puu.sh/9qiA8/a8ce590491.craft EDIT: Oh, it seems I forgot to mention the mods used. Currently, just MechJeb, Infernal Robotics, and FAR. Yes, that's right. This craft is compatible with FAR, and it was surprisingly easy. Check out this video to see the X1 on its maiden flight.
