  1. Durned copyrights. Launch Vid not accessible in Germany. Ill have to upload another vid sometime. Its the startrek dialogue.
  2. As promised. Released! I'll have to link this thread back to the OP on Monday. But for now, Claw and Starwhip are credited with rescuing this craft from its otherwise untimely end. Thank you guys. Your work was well worth it. Thread link and craft file: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/108219-STS-1-Space-Shuttle-%28NASA-Replica-Easy-to-Load-Fly%29-Full-O-Y-Tanks-to-Orbit-VIDEO-CRAFT
  3. hehe. nice catch. updated. Edit: Hey if any of you guys create any accurate STS payload recreations, let me know too. Share a bay subassembly that can fit in a completely empty bay and I'll include it in the OP. - - - Updated - - - RTLS Abort vid posted to OP.
  4. STS-1 Space Shuttle ferrying a station core and orbital tug to 120km orbit. See my sig for the shuttle (not cargo) craft file.
  5. Man I love this thing. My first real cargo mission. On a DMP private server. This is a station core plus attached workbee in the cargo bay. 15 tons. Dump 90% from bottom booster tanks, and dump bottom external tank. easy 120km target orbit. I've even impressed myself (and that's saying a lot for one who has OCD). Btw, the mk2 crew quaters plus docking port is what I would have released standard as the STS-1, but I figured people would appreciate an empty bay or simple fuel depot cargo to rip out instead.
  6. GotR HQ station core, plus workbee orbital tug. This is my first real STS-1 Space Shuttle mission. See sig for orbiter craft file.
  7. Tune fuel by removing it from the bottom up depending on payload. Empty bottom booster tank equally with bottom external tank. You only ever need to empty the bottom booster tank. After that, keep the boosters as-is and continue removing fuel from the external tanks from the bottom up until you find the balance point. Usually takes about 2-3 tries. Also this shuttle in heavy mode is best flown with the idea that you stay at 60k and it remains there while you raise peri on opposite side of globe to target alt. You really have to use your SSMEs to gain speed in order to get peri to orbit rather than lift your ap to orbit. Did you see the video? Its a bit counter intuitive, but mechjeb taught me how. Do my flight instructions in my OP make sense? ------ Edit: Hey take some pics. I'd love to see! Let me know if you like it/hate it, etc. If you see it needs an improvement, let me know too. I'm already planning for an update to this thread with a new version, STS-2, when 1.0 rolls out with new wing parts. Oh and timewarp+shuttle+launch hardware+atmosphere = you will not go to space. Timewarp with shuttle only, however, works just fine, even in atmosphere.
  8. Sal recommended I post this here. I was wondering if Squad would be interested in community craft submissions to be included as and/or replace existing Stock craft files for KSP 1.0. Perhaps offer a community contest or solicit submissions for developer review? I know over the years the community has commented on current stock craft, and many have offered suggestions for improvement, some even outright redesigning them from scratch to work as intended. If so, I would like to offer to Squad this space shuttle I developed for stock inclusion in a future official KSP game release: STS-1 Space Shuttle With all the talk about how difficult mk3 craft are to fly, and how near impossible NASA replica space shuttles are to develop, I'd though I'd set out to build one for the books proving it can be done. Squad is free to include it as a stock craft. No strings attached. No credit necessary. I just want to see KSP 1.0 launch with some excellent craft to inspire new and advanced players alike to learn from its design. You can download the craft file here: STS-1 Spacecraft Exchange thread. If anyone else likes the idea of Squad accepting community submissions for stock craft inclusion in KSP 1.0, feel free to respond to this thread with your ideas of what you'd like to see in the 1.0 released stock craft lineup.
  9. This thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/108507-A-Magic-Carpet-Ride-%28Should-Squad-Accept-Comunity-Submitted-Crafts-for-KSP-1-0-%29 I want to open up discussion about the Stock craft files, to talk of what crafts should be included, and whether or not Squad should ask for community input on what crafts should be provided in Stock KSP 1.0. This is not a Spacecraft Exchange topic, and though it may ask people to posting craft ideas for Stock KSP, I don't think this kind of discussion belongs in Spacecraft Exchange which is a subforum intended to share crafts not in the game - whereas this topic concerns crafts that are in the game. I did not provide a craft file in this thread. Please don't put it in Spacecraft Exchange as I want this discussion opened in General Discussion. If you still decide General Discussion is NOT the best place to seek community wide feedback on stock KSP 1.0 craft, then please delete the thread in its entirety from Spacecraft Exchange, as I feel it is not the best forum for it.
  10. This thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/108507-A-Magic-Carpet-Ride needs moved back to General Discussion, as the point of it is to open discussion in general to ask what kind of crafts should the default Gold 1.0 KSP roll out with - using my shuttle as an example a user-submitted craft for such purpose. It does not belong in Spacecraft Exchange as I already have a formal thread dedicated there to the STS-1 development: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/108219-STS-1-Space-Shuttle-%28NASA-Replica-Easy-to-Load-Fly%29-Full-O-Y-Tanks-to-Orbit-VIDEO-CRAFT Can you please move http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/108507-A-Magic-Carpet-Ride back to General Discussion for the General Discussion feedback on the topic of what crafts should be released for KSP 1.0, namely should Squad consider accepting user-submitted crafts for this purpose?
  11. You are invited to fly her. Dedicated to the real STS-1, Space Shuttle Columbia, in memory of STS-107 Feb 1, 2003. Devs, intetested in making this craft stock? Free for anyone to use, no credit needed if Squad takes it up. ; ) Everyone else, With 1.0 on the distant horizon, what default stock crafts do you think Squad should bundle with the game? Do you think Squad should accept community-submitted crafts?
  12. Time for my submission. My non shuttlecraft magnum opus: STS-1 Space Shuttle Intrepid 276 stock parts capable of lifting 42 tons to 200km orbit. See link in my sig.
  13. Yukon: You may publish this shuttle in your catalog. No problem! Kerdinand: Thank you! I think so too. Let's hope she flies for you as beautiful she looks. Everyone: As promised, STS-1 Space Shuttle is now published. Craft file in OP. Updated flight profile and part count. Video recorded. Video editing commencing. This thing makes 200k easily with a full orange and yellow. 276 parts empty bay. Enjoy! Let me know what you fly up! Post your STS Space Shuttle pics or vids here!
  14. Tag and craft searching ! Thumbs up vote here.
  15. From http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/108219-STS-1-Space-Shuttle-Intrepid-%28NASA-Replica-Easy-to-Load-Fly%29-Launch-Full-O-Y-Tanks-to-Orbit-WIP STS-1 Space Shuttle Intrepid Stock, can lift empty cargo bay, or fully locked and loaded orange and yellow tank to 200km orbit with ease, with only adjustments to fuel amounts from the bottom up needed to lift different weighted cargo. Noob friendly. 276 parts dry. Almost ready to publish craft file when video is done. Was aiming to design and build one of the most beautiful yet functional, and true to NASA form (except for liquid boosters to lift an orange tank payload) KSP space shuttles. My first. Mk3 large, with large cargo bay.
