What was the First thing you did when you got KSP?
inigma replied to michaelsteele3's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I played the demo. I wanted more parts. Then I bought the game. I launched the KerbalX and crashed it. And told my friends and family to buy it too. -
SSI likes this. Can we publish this in our new catalog?
-
The STS linked in my sig, can lift 42 tons to 300km. The subassembly is only 8 tons.
-
Finalized. Ready for marketing and subassembly publication. This replica STS-5 payload is a single, yes single, subassembly. Publication tomorrow night. See my STS sig link. and yes... its spinning out of the bay beautifully.

They are with the stage recovery mod. All, I've finalized the STS ComSats (STS-5) subassembly design and its been through several shakedown tests. She's ready for marketing and publication. Subassembly craft file soon... finally... just ran out of time tonight to do the last 15 min of work. argh. release will be tomorrow.

Vernors? What are vernors? Am I missing something magical here? Never used them. Couldn't think of a reason to. Maybe I need a vernor education if you're using them to help with torque control... anyone want to be my teacher? - - - Updated - - - ooh i get it now. i thought those things only used oxidizer and rcs fuel, not oxy and liquid fuel. *smacks head* hey anyone know how much they can be used to eliminate the 30 or so SAS modules on the STS-3? Looking for an overall part reduction to the STS-3 without loss of mission capability. I wonder if the real space shuttle used vernors though... and if not, if using them would further remove the STS-3 from its visual NASA-replicaness... I have an engineering challenge for anyone interested. Can someone redesign the STS-3 to use SRBs AND be able to lift the STS Fuel Pod subassembly to 300km without tapping into it, and return the shuttle to KSC on its own fuel? I've not been able to successfully meet that level of current performance with the current STS-3 Naito class liquid boosters. -
Kerbal Space Colonies...filming to begin shortly

totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread

Magic. ... And 30 SAS modules. ...? Actually, you design a shuttle to fly a maximum payload. Then empty it for minimum. Balance everything until max torque values are roughly in the middle of two expected extremes. Add SAS to cover the difference. In my case it took 24 in the tank and 6 in the orbiter to cover the max 900 torque. Now I can slap in payloads without thinking anything but how much fuel to add. Noob friendly design at its finest. -
Am I the only one in love with subassemblies? The STS ComSat (STS-5) subassembly WIP. All stock parts. The sats launch and rotate out of the bay like the real thing. Still more final tweaks and design to do. A WIP since the sats sometimes crash into the sides and it's time for bed. Hopefully released later this week. I sooo much want to do a vid showing off my recent subassemblies. Link to my STS Shuttle is in my sig. Look familiar? - - - Updated - - - Look familiar? STS Space Shuttle link in my thread. This is one of many subassemblies I am working on.

Yup, its the SBS3 and Anik comsat delivery mission. The first operational shuttle mission, and Columbia flew it. Hey, only 9 more posts and this thread qualifies me for an Epic Engineer listing in the the stickied Showcase thread! I've never had a craft release thread go over 100 posts. Want to help?

A WIP since the sats sometimes crash into the sides, and I forgot to turn off SAS in these pics on sat launch, and it's time for bed. Thought I'd share it here since not everyone reads my STS thread updates. -
Yes xo's MMUs come standard with the STS Operations Module and STS Service Module (see link to my STS Space Shuttle in my signature below to download the subassemblies). I modified them a bit to fit into the bay (moved the probe core and docking port inward using the offset tool which was unavailable to xonight when he made the Mk.8's) High quality stuff!

Beautiful ship. A true utilitarian spacecraft. I'd half expect such a craft to appear over Earth's skies some day with these little green men hopping out and driving their rover gathering science.
