  1. I think that might be broken. I recently tried to set up a config like that and it failed.
  2. It's probably to be expected that the engines will burn up if they're exposed but YMMV. The log won't say a lot about things burning up, the MM cache file is more important because you can see every single part config in the game and other things like physics configs. If you really want to check what kind of shielding it's getting, turn on thermal debugging. You can see how much convection actually gets through to the part you're trying to protect with the flap and DRE also responds to turning on debugging by providing additional information of its own (total heat loading, peak heating and heat flux /cm2 - if peak heat stops going up then you know you're over the worst part of reentry)
  3. One word on space planes: Deadly Reentry makes substantial changes to them to make them behave more like they are protected by shuttle tiles. RO doesn't touch them last time I checked so any problems you encounter with space planes should definitely come here.
  4. RO changes convection to give heating appropriate to planets sized for what you have in RSS. Earth is the benchmark, typically. It also changes conduction rates so that conduction is lower than in stock. (that translates to increased skin temperatures because the thermal energy can't diffuse into the interior as fast as in stock) Heat shields are a special case. RO adjusts heat shields on a case by case basis and tags them with RSSROConfig. If Real Solar System is installed without Realism Overhaul then Deadly Reentry will try to adjust the shields to be suitable for an Earth sized reentry. (alternatively I could just do that for any shield that lacks the RSSROConfig tag even if RO is installed but generally I prefer to leave things alone in the event it is installed) If your heat shield doesn't hold up, make sure that it is suitable for the type of return you're making. (i.e. if it's a lunar return then make sure the shield IS lunar return rated) Since you mention Soyuz specifically, it's probably an RO issue and you should probably take it up in that forum.
  5. If that's all the information you're going to give then my answer to you is the same as to him. Abbreviated version: Those aren't the numbers you should see with RO installed so something is wrong with your installation. Fix your KSP + RO installation.
  6. If your question is about where to find engine configs, either install Realism Overhaul or Stockalike Configs (both links below)
  7. From the way that ship is shuddering, it looks like a bug I've seen recently where an orbiting ship has 'Landed' status. Look at it in the map and hover over it. Or use the ship information button and see what status it is. If it's 'Landed' then I have to say it's a Hyperedit problem unless you can replicate it as having 'Landed' status when having launched normally.
  8. Correct, as is. Using the files from @Chonner's dropbox link a page back. Everything connects in the VAB at proper orientations in the VAB as expected and all docking ports function as they are supposed to. (i.e. docking only at configured angle and with respect to gender for gendered ports)
  9. Guys, I don't know what problem you were having, exactly, with these parts nodes and 1.1.2 but the parts do work in KSP 1.1.3
  10. I'm not sure why it would need it? Someone else has had it re-hosted elsewhere haven't they?
  11. DRE - Deadly Reentry (mod) Is still MIA. Let's have some love for one of the oldest and most downloaded of mods?
  12. LOL ok let's see here.... KIS KAS RF MFT MFS RO FAR MM MJ RSS Maybe saying EVERY single mod is a bit of an exaggeration but not much of one. I just think DRE should get some love too. Thanks for making me aware of that thread. I checked it and DRE was suggested. *shrug* oh well
  13. There's an issue on Github about mass being set directly and apparently it's not supposed to be done at all anymore. I don't know if anyone is looking into that. (edit: It was closed a long while back and didn't deal with tanks... but I still get email about it)
  14. No the post stands as is and I'm not going to break out the neon flashing lights or dumb down my post.
  15. I think I found the problem and proposed a file delete of the CKAN DRE meta for 7.4.6 on the CKAN meta repo. Hope that fixes it but if not I have no idea. I didn't arrange for DRE to be picked up by CKAN and I don't do any maintenance of that data. Edit: And why the hell is every single mod under Kerbol getting a tooltip on the forums except for DRE?
  16. What stopped it was that it was never very successful. In fact, a plane was lost and someone died because of that thing. (Mach 3 launch, engine on the drone didn't start and it collided with its mothership and destroyed it)
  17. I think he thinks that RCS thruster firing against part of the rocket would counteract the effects of thrust. Which it would IRL. That's why Orion has those canted nozzles
  18. I hadn't had much luck updating to 1.1.2 and had to stop to update other mods that I manage for1.1.3
  19. Nope, I had nothing to do with any CKAN instructions, any more than I had anything to do with the move to microwaveable rice. Microwaveable rice is the Devil's grain.
