  1. Did we land on the moon in 1969? I believe that the later Apollo missions did, but not the 1969 one.

  3. My Duna rover had a Mk1 parachute and crashed into Duna. It consisted of a Rovemate body, 4 of the medium wheels, a probe body and a solar panel. I thought this parachute would be enough?
  4. That's all well and good, but the Kerban map is ripped from another game. There was a thread about it.
  5. Are my gears causing the awful handling? Cos everything I made with gears on wings crashes off the runway before I can even take off, so I figured that was the problem But yeah I really don't understand aircraft I wanted to see some examples

  8. Use a seperatron or 2x docking port and it will cover the engine (in structural tab)
  9. Hey Xeldrak, I don't understand "leave the decent-engine on the mün) +20". I brought everything back to Kerbin. Surely I should get points for that! Also applies to "MM disposed by crashing it into the Mün (remove Kerbal first!)".

Here's my attempt at an Apollo style mission, using only 1 astronaut: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/hbq04jlrn6iqqxg/w7tzUhT0z4 I used a probe core to keep the orbiter from disappearing while I landed on Mun. It had no batteries, so it was up to the lander to align the docking in Munar orbit. I also carried most of the fuel on the lander, just in case, and jettisoned the two extra fuel pods after transferring the leftover fuel into my orbiter for the return journey. It was a little confusing as on the return trip my command pod was backwards, meaning I had to burn retrograde to reach Kerbin! A great mission though.
  11. It's probably been done before - make a vehicle that takes off from the launchpad vertically and lands horizontally. RULES Your vehicle MUST be made in the VAB NOT the spaceplane hangar. Do not transfer your save! Your vehicle MUST land on wheels and unpowered (no boosters and no landing legs). The final 2000m of your descent must be unpowered.   14. I've noticed this before when I did a similar Mun-Minmus mission, and I'm wondering what the solution is to balancing those mini vessels? I really don't think I'll be able to launch this, even if I remove the RCS and some other parts.

  16. Bonus points if you send me a save file either in LKO or near Jool so I can visit Laythe myself. My CPU can handle anything up to Duna type missions and a small space station, but nothing like this.

  18. Hey forum, I designed the following craft for a one-way trip to Laythe: However I’ve ran into a huge FPS problem trying to launch the thing. I’m getting 1 frame per second on my laptop and am wasting loads of fuel because I can’t get the throttle right etc. I’ve essentially given up launching this thing, so here’s where you come in! I thought I’d post the .craft file here, and see what you can do with it. This is an open challenge to do the most impressive thing you can think of with this craft. You’ve got a nuclear engine with loads of fuel, 2 aerospikes, 5 mainsails and 12 SRBs at your disposal, as well as 2 detachable landing craft.   19. I just leave a Kerbal where I land. So far I have one on Mun, Minmus, Duna and Eve. I doubt the one on Eve will ever be rescued...
  20. The only success I've had is taking off with ASAS enabled. You'll need the nose naturally pointing up.
  21. Hey, I just made my first functional jet aircraft on KSP: However I had some problems and noticed some things. I’ve searched and there doesn’t seem to be a very good definitive guide to these, so I was hoping to ask some questions and maybe we can develop one? 1. This design took me hours of spinning off the runway as per other forum users. Have we got a definitive answer for this? It is wheel placement? I’m sure my wheels were perfectly aligned on other designs – I don’t know why this one works and those didn’t. 2. CoL below CoM how can that be achieved with a standard engine body? Because if you lower your wings the wheels cannot function properly. 3. My jet peters out about 15,000 meters is that correct? How do I go higher besides using rocketry? 4. Intakes, what are the difference between the intakes? What is radial engine body for example? I though the aerospike was a jet engine apparently not? Some guidance on the parts would be helpful. And yeah, general advice on making aircraft more stable, going higher etc. I'm not concerned with actual spaceplanes, but I would like a fighter jet capable of entering the upper atmosphere at least.
  22. Just a quick update; Sorry for the slow grading process. I've got some deadlines to meet with a publisher about a book I'm writing, I will do the other grades when I get chance. I already have drafted up the scoring, so don't worry that you will get graded differently later on! Great submissions everyone!
  23. Yeah sorry I wasn't very clear. I know an already proposed idea is EVA with magnetic boots etc. but a SH3 style IVA where you can go onto an observation deck module and look around can only be a good thing. I know they are not the same games and KSP should not just try to be SH3. But that game got things so right in terms of ship sims, that it would be foolish to ignore it.
  24. Can someone explain how I bring my launch stages back into Kerbin? Also not using time warp a bit ridiculous, how long is my mission to Duna gonna take???
