(Request) Help on a designing a interplanetary lander.
Mesklin replied to halosos's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Here is medium Dune lander "Cucumber Tin". It has about 2 km/s that is enough for land from base orbit 70x70 km and climb back with 200 m/s of dV for rendezvous operations. Two crew members are inside and you can stack this landers as many as you wish. Mass - 9.33 t Parts count - 38 Ascend plan: 1. Full throttle, turn to 45 degrees 2. Wait until vertical speed reach about 100 m/s 3. Turn to 30 degrees and wait until speed reach 500 m/s 4. Turn to 0 degrees and wait desired periapsis (60-70 km), then cut throttle 5. Implement circularization burn -
Only two words - too heavy, delete all I-Beams and almost all RCS tanks, 2 RCS balls is enough. As per my experience for two turbo jets maximum weight is 32-33 t

VTOL Black Night III 42 Tons to LKO!
Mesklin replied to Andrakon's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
The liitle batteriy on the top of docking port is replacement normal payload for better observation this craft. This design was constructed for use as subassembly also and at first I constructed payload and then simply add dropship from subassemblyes at the bottom of it. I use planes gear for 3 reasons: 1. No weight 2. Inline light 3. This gear is very strong and opened at the start of flight. In case of this craft you do not need to use additional details for prevent damages of engines when payload is really heavy. -

A space yacht, for the relaxing man (and woman)
Mesklin replied to Mesklin's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Exactly, I am big and heavy Inside plane fuel tanks, deep inside, 3 tanks hidden in central body (below cabin) and another 2 in the bottom kerosene tanks. In the middle of this craft more 10 parts included one to another. -
Exactly, only certified company techs can do refueling for this yacht , with specially designed equipment.

Ladies and gentlemens, let me introduce you new edge of space ships technology: beauty and powerful space yacht "Silver bullet". This ship utilized revolutionary technology: super density equipment superposition . With this technology you will not see ugly intakes and wings, also no more nozzles that sticking out from different places old designed ships. "Silver bullet" equipped twin powerfull turbo air breathing engine, super reliable and efficient nuclear engine Nuke-3000, also yacht has turbo mode (press button 3) for people who like fast and vigorous ascend from surface of planets. You do not need to have deep knowledge in art of piloting space ships, our yacht equipped modern autopilot computer HAL 9000, with this computer you only need select desired destination and relax in your comfortable armchair. For eliminating boring in the long flights you can use new super virtual reality multimedia system (for activation press 7). Yacht equipped super easy landing system on atmospheric planets based on two drogue chutes (for activation press 8) and emergency escape system that can return you back to Kerbin surface in safety even from low Kerbin orbit. No compromises, this ship beautiful and powerful in one time, you can reach distant bodies of Kerbin solar system without refueling: Mun and Minmus, Dune and Laythe and, of course, return back in one piece. See technical detail in our booklet:

Ship mass 18.04 t

Fuel and oxidizer mass 8.1t

Parts count 112

dV on low Kerbin orbit about 4000 m/s (on nuclear engine)

Round-trip bodies Mun, Minmus, Dune, Ike, Laythe

For test drive you can proceed in our office No one cheats were used when this craft was designed.

A space yacht, for the relaxing man (and woman)

If you off part clipping check in debug menu, agreed, it will be a cheat. But I did it in VBA without debug menu. IMHO, in this case I did not use cheat, I used exploit of game . Same technique people used, when stacking intakes. Here is exampe apoteosis of stacking parts In any case, it is not serious craft, it is only joke. -

Yep, bolyboly, I reloaded Tylo mission from the last quicksave (before entering Kerbin atmosphere) and finish Tylo mission by another, more complex way. And again about Rule 1, I thought in this rule key words is "not lose any parts", that is mind for me: craft should landed after mission with numbers of parts equal to number of parts at the start of mission. Maybe I was wrong. In any case, this mission was great challenge for my KSP skills.

OK, bolyboly, there are a second attempt for Dedal: And again, about rules, why whole craft should land to another body, nothing in rules about it. IMHO ideal SSTO for atmosphere less bodies should reach Kerbin orbit, undock interplanetary ship (without wings, atmo jets, intakes and so on). Then this interplanetary ship will do his mission, return to Kerbin orbit, dock with winged part and, after docking, land on Kerbin tougher. Here is first part of mission.

I can not agree with you, no one K-Prize rules were broken, see: Rules 1. The craft may not lose any parts in flight, no decoupling allowed. (Satisfied, no one parts were lost) 2. The craft must lift off horizontally, reach orbit (PE > 70,000m) and land intact ready for 'refuelling'. (Satisfied, lifted off horizontally from Kerbin, orbit reached and craft landed in same condition. And no one words about horizontally landing) 3. All fuel tanks, wings (lift generators) and engine parts must be stock, for fairness. (Satisfied, only stock)

Almost last fortress in Kerbin system has fallen. I made it, SSTO Dedal was made successful round-trip to Tylo with landing and of course Jeb was a pilot. See details here:

My craft was 31.43t on launchpad. I cuted off my jets only when my throttle stayed about last tick on throttle scale (at 43-44 km) and I on nuke together with jets when throttle drop below 1/3.

I saw your craft, it was ugly, but efficient enough to fly to Moho and back. About ascend path: try to use big ascend pith (>50) after take off and maybe slight more wings. I found one thing for low TWR craft after my tens of tries, if your horizontal speed in ascend time rise to fast it stop to rise your vertical velocity and you spend to much fuel in ascend time.

Let me introduce you long range SSTO - Ikar. With whooping dV on low orbit - 8288, this craft can reach any target in Kerbin system and return pilot to home. Very stable and controllable in atmosphere from full to completely dry, you do not need to move fuel from one tank to another before dive in atmosphere. With heavy duty gears you can safely land to any body in system without damages and safely takeoff after landing (low takeoff speed full craft on Kerbin ~85m/s). You can make on this craft as minimum 6 travels to Kerbin orbit and back without refueling (I did it and can continue, but it so boring).

Let me introduce you VTOL space plane with two engines, two heads, legendary the Pushmi-pullyu . Very simply for ascend and not so simply for descend. dV on 80x80 orbit is 3900-4000 m/s. It has 10 intakes per one engine and can fly with 1/10 throttle at 45 km with speed >2200 m/s. Craft can arrive Mun, Minmus, land and return to home. Some photos: Craft is here
