[0.22.X] BobCat ind. Historical spacecraft thread
HeadHunter67 replied to BobCat's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
After digging a couple parts out of an older pack (the launch probe and the ASAS) I'm assembling MIR in a low Kerbin orbit. I wanted to do it at 120+ km, but the Proton realistically only has fuel to get a 13t payload to about 80-ish km. I don't know if it's the old ASAS or what, but the Proton handles like a suka ÑÂуúð. So I have decided to use the recommended MJ ascent profile (modified for a little higher than 70km altitude). I don't feel too guilty using autopilot to launch a station that, let's be honest, was totally launched by autopilot after all. -
Then we need to find out what they're lining those spacesuits with, because even human suits can't block cosmic radiation. To do so would make the suit so cumbersome as to be useless.
-
Missing the point... in a game such as this, that "skill" doesn't matter to anyone but the player. The rest of the world couldn't care less. If the person who can't make orbit is still enjoying the game (however that works) then a more "skilled" player can't say they're "doing it wrong".

MechJeb 2 - Patch test bed release (October 10)
HeadHunter67 replied to sarbian's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
"237" does not mean "23rd of July", it means the 237th day of the year... which would be... August 25th. That's today. Get it? Sarbian, I noticed an issue on a fresh install of your .dll and thought I'd bring it up. The ascent profile started at -5km and ended at -70km. Sounds like a recipe for a crash landing to me. -
Yeah, I just deleted most of the IVAs in the Squad folder. The only ones I kept were the cupola and the crew tank, because they are parts of one of my space stations and I like getting a view from inside. But that saved me almost 200MB right there. Squad is even worse than KW when it comes to memory footprint and optimization - hopefully they will learn from how many modders do things.

Minions, I'll buy. They're a lot like that - little, bold, reckless, talking funny, crazy tech... but not Orks.
-
They are neither brutish, nor stupid, nor violent. Nor are they scavengers who do not understand the technology they appropriate. They are clever, intelligent, peaceful and technically innovative. The only thing they truly have in common is that they are green. Even if they're also photosynthetic, that would mean, by your logic, that a cucumber is no different than an Ork.

He's taught a lot of people how to play the game, introduced advanced concepts to many, and is generally an ambassador for KSP. Some of the game's success has to be credited to people like him. Also, he's got a fantastic scientific understanding of rocket science and the physics behind it - and he explains them in ways the layman can understand. All you need to do is watch some "tutorial" videos from people who aren't nearly as smart as him to see the difference. Plus, he's entertaining. But Pebblegarden is still my Jedi Master - without her (and Blizzy's tutorials) I wouldn't know how to rendezvous or dock.
-
I know how to launch, orbit, rendezvous and dock manually. I have assembled a functional fuel depot at a 200km orbit. I have travelled to and landed manually on Minmus and Mün and returned to Kerbin safely (though just barely on the Mün return). So on that scale, somewhere in the middle? There's a lot I've yet to do - travel to another planet, land on Eve, visit Jool, set up an extraplanetary base somewhere...

Does a High Level of Stupidity Mean That the Kerbal is Smart?
HeadHunter67 replied to glugg23's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've got a guy named Samhat Kerman, the persistence file shows his Courage at nearly 97% and his Stupidity at less than 13%. He never seems to panic, and he sure doesn't act Stupid. So I'm inclined to believe that a high Stupidity does, indeed, mean one is very Stupid. -
Seeking advice for my first space station.
HeadHunter67 replied to Moencino's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
All good advice - I use stuff from most of these mods, but honestly, I have fun building stations completely out of stock parts too! The wiki has articles for building Mir or the beginnings of the ISS completely from stock: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Tutorial:Salyut_programme http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Tutorial:_ISS -
WHy cant i dock ?!?
HeadHunter67 replied to nomad032's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Looks like your docking ports are on incorrectly. See how they are in this image? The fact that I can see the grey "barrel" of each leads me to believe that they weren't put on properly - or that you snapped them off while docking at too high a speed or torque. -
Today, I made my first completely unassisted landing on the Mün - no autopilot or artificial assistance for plotting course or guidance. But, on my way back home, I discovered I didn't have quite enough Delta-V to land on Kerbin! We could not leave brave Samhat Kerman, who not only was the first Kerbal on the Mün, but was previously the first Kerbal in space, to die alone in the void! "Would it help if I got out and pushed, Komrade?" asked brave Samhat. Several risky EVA operations later, Samhat had managed to slow down his lander enough to be captured by Kerbin's atmosphere, and after a frightening amount of low-altitude aerobraking, he parachuted to a safe landing in the ocean: Samhat, who was recruited for his exceptionally high Courage and very low Stupidity, now holds three records in space exploration: First Kerbal in space, First Kerbal to land on the Mün, and longest cumulative EVA (both on a single mission basis and in total time on EVA). The proud nation of Kerbia will surely award him the highest honors and the people are sure to throw a ticker-tape parade for their hero's safe return!

[1.0.2] NovaPunch 2.09. - May 6th - 1.0 Compatibility Update
HeadHunter67 replied to Tiberion's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
When I built a Saturn V using NP and HBI's Kerturn parts, it was too wobbly to be effective, even with struts. Of course, much of that might have to do with the paylod section and the fairings, so perhaps Procedural Fairings 2.4.1 has addressed that. -
Request: Can someone help me with MechJeb?
HeadHunter67 replied to Tex's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
If you're looking for something that will help you with docking, why not something that will help you... learn docking? http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/41851-0-21-0-Interactive-in-game-docking-tutorial and he also has a really good in-game Rendezvous Tutorial mission as well. Before I tried these, I relied on the autopilot to do it for me all the time. I realized I'd never learn how as long as I did that - so I gave this a try and now I can do nearly all of my docking and rendezvous unassisted. I've constructed my space station without automated assistance. I think autopilots are helpful to new players, but I've only been playing for about 5 weeks myself. I don't have anything against using an autopilot, I just think this falls under the old "give a man a fish" parable. -
Space Dock and framerate issues
HeadHunter67 replied to HAMsmith's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Good job! If you don't ever intend to use the engine after docking, you might want to consider a means to decouple it. Better yet, don't give it an engine at all, since you don't want to be cannibalizing payload fuel to get it in orbit, that's defeating the purpose. Take off the engine and put another Senior there, place the payload atop an appropriate lifter, and once you get near the station, decouple the node and tug it into place. That way, you also have a port on the end for further expansion. As for Overbuilders Anonymous, we meet here on the forums. Daily. 24/7. -
What stock crafts should come prepackaged with KSP as examples?
HeadHunter67 replied to Burninate's topic in KSP1 Discussion
That's way too much rocket for that job - the only reason it needs to be so big is to carry fuel for its unnecessary size. Look at the rocket I linked - it gets you to the Mün for a lot less mass. -
I had an "Adgas Kerman" in one of my saves. It always made me think of refueling.

Does a High Level of Stupidity Mean That the Kerbal is Smart?
HeadHunter67 replied to glugg23's topic in KSP1 Discussion
It also says: "This page is humorous and fiction. It should not be taken at face value." Since there's nothing in-game to back it up, I'd hardly draw conclusions from it. I'll rely on watching how they react in situations, instead. Bill strikes me as level-headed and not prone to panic - but that's not just Courage. Bob screams like an idiot even when everything is under control - for instance, during a controlled ascent. If he's "smart", that's sure a poor way of showing it. -
What stock crafts should come prepackaged with KSP as examples?
HeadHunter67 replied to Burninate's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Scott Manley's basic Münar rocket is an example of the sort of design that should be provided to teach players. It's simple and effective and doesn't require advanced understanding of the game to build or pilot. Pebblegarden's orbiter and lander designs are good recommendations, too. -
Same here - the idea behind multi-core processors was to allow a computer to perform better without ridiculous clock speeds, and this game seems to defy conventional computing architecture. I'm not sure if it's the Unity engine that limits this, but somewhere along the line, someone wasn't forward-thinking in their software design. For you, it's got to be that PhysX card - I have a similar processor and your creations would melt my computer.
-
Sounds to me like you've just provided a good argument in favor of Kerbal manned science missions - if you're right, this gives them a reason to be in the game.
