  1. Also, http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/30803-WIP-FusTek-inspired-station-module-variants http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/24906-LLL-Lack-Luster-Labs-0-09-9
  2. True - providing you use SelectRoot to set the root part in the VAB before saving it as a subassembly, everything should be OK. But "in theory" doesn't always jive with "in practice", so it's helpful to know the workaround - especially for big, complicated lifters.
  3. You can do multi-port docking - there are threads on this very forum to show you how. As for struts in orbit, get the Quantum Struts mod and use the Strut Gun. Properly aim them when building the craft, and when activated in orbit, they will shoot a strut out to whatever is directly in their path.
  4. Then maybe Squad should redefine how they present the Kerbals in their official videos - because Kerbals in their videos are prone to do risky, outrageous, flashy and downright dangerous feats of piloting and engineering with little thought of the consequences. If "Kerbals are srs bsns", then perhaps they need to reconsider their marketing strategy. Personally, I find it part of the charm and the fun - it makes the sting of failure something to laugh at.
  5. Thank you. So, if I want to use these as escape pods, I'd need to either build them into the design, or replace the lockdown with a docking port, then? Is it possible to replace a capsule into the lockdown once it's decoupled?
  6. http://grammarist.com/spelling/realise-realize/ I did try to search for a previous version of Lazor System that is .20 compatible but I cannot find anywhere that is hosting that file. I've even checked to see if I have it on my drive, but it looks like I don't. Sorry.
  7. I'm curious as to the purpose and proper function of the lockdown part. How is it properly used? I want to use the VA as an escape system for an existing space station but I discovered that the lockdown does not work like a docking port. (Or maybe it does when it's built into the station before launch, it's too late to know). Could someone please give me more information on what it's meant to do and the way in which it should be used? At the moment, it's not much more than a fancy decoupler until I know more. Thank you.
  8. If you don't use them, deleting the craft files won't hurt. Also, if you have a good design you want to share in all your saves, move it from your save's Ships folder to the game's top-level Ships folder (placing it in the appropriate VAB or SPH subfolder) and then it will appear for all saves.
  9. Usually, the best root part is, of course, a decoupler or a docking port - something to which you will attach the rest of the craft. As for the issue with fuel lines and struts, it's a known problem with Subassembly Loader. Temstar (creator of the Zenith family of lifters), came up with a way around that. See the second post in that thread.
  10. You might have heard about this little thing called "darkness". Sometimes you need to land in it. Despite the fact that the geography is well-known, Kerbal spacecraft in orbit lack the ability to see the surface of the planet's night side. Placing a vehicle or flag there will give you something to home in on - and once you're down far enough, you'll be able to see well enough to successfully land.
  11. Do it, Apollo! Do it now. I had the same trouble as you and this thread and Blizzy's new tutorial mission sorted it out for me. I'm not perfect, I can't always do it unassisted, but I understand the basics and I'm learning now.
  12. I can tell you that the second design will do the job far better than the first. I've used that Manley rocket and it will deliver that command/lander to the moon with enough fuel for the return. The other rocket is spending too much fuel to haul too much weight along for the ride. For bigger payloads, it might be a good start, but sometimes less is more.
  13. Unless your TWR gets below 1, then you had better believe thrust is not overrated. ISp means little if you can't get escape velocity.
  14. I will, I do, and I am. I mean, aside from my resemblance to him, I'm driven to continually invent new stations. While the next design is incubating in my mind, I'm constantly trying out new ways to do things so that I can implement them in the next design - be it a better construction tug, more compact crew escape systems, etc.
  15. They have two traits: Courage, and STUPIDITY. You tell me if they're not idiotic. As for explosions? They may not be intentional, but they're commonplace. Just watch the official videos if you have any doubts.
  16. Amazing! It's great that science and communication equipment will finally have a use that's not purely decorative! I look forward to this, and hopefully to new science equipment as well. One last thing I'd like to ask for, Felipe - in addition to just science components is there any chance we could get science modules for orbital stations and planetary bases? These could allow players to Do Science in orbit or on other worlds, as well as improving research, and providing a reliable place to which to deliver data gathered by other scientific craft and expeditions. I really would like to have some legitimate scientific use for an orbital lab.
  17. Thanks for developing and releasing this, and for giving me the opportunity to test it!
  18. I hope you realize that little green men aren't real, and a planet with an equatorial radius of 600km would have to be made out of osmium to have a surface gravity of 1G. Also, if "laser" can't be spelled with a "z", make sure to correctly spell "realize".
  19. It's very useful - and it makes Subassembly Manager even more powerful. I wouldn't worry about adding either of them -- they're plugins, and tiny by comparison to even a single mod part.
  20. I agree - I never understood people who suggest forced failure as something "fun" to add to a game. And I see it in so many other games. It's almost like sjwt was saying "wouldn't it be great if, no matter what you do, your launches kept failing until a certain point in the game? This isn't an MMO - your first mission is not "kill 10 Kerbals".
  21. As much as I loved having the option of clouds, I ultimately decided to remove them and go with a cloudless texture. Clouds look great but they really interfere with planning a landing. You can count to... I mean, ON Potato!
  22. While I think there will always need to be national (and international) space agencies for oversight and regulation (can't have just any fool launching a rocket), I think that privatization of the space program is one of the best things to happen to space exploration. You have more competition, innovation, technological advance, and options. Consider the Orion (a great spacecraft from NASA) and SpaceX's Dragon. Dragon can carry more crew and do more - and with less mass. That's a very important factor in getting a spacecraft into orbit.
  23. No worries, mate. Didn't occur to me either until recently - was watching The Right Stuff and the announcer was taling about Sputnik being launched on a "Korabl rocket" and it hit me. It may sound nonsensical to some (like "ATM machine" or "PIN number") but it's a proper name - so it's more like "the Inuit people" if you get my drift. But anyways, I don't want my little joke to derail the topic. I've been continually amazed by SpaceX and this whole "grasshopper" thing. LazTek did include those landing gear in their latest release, but I know I'm not nearly good enough to set the rocket back down on the ground, let alone the pad, after I launch it. Landing's not something I do, y'know?
  24. Do I need KOSMOS and/or the Soviet Pack to properly make the ISS? Are there any other mods required? I ask because those two packs (and B9 which seems required for Soviet) push my GameData folder above 1.5GB, which is where crashes start to occur for me.
  25. I'm not being antagonistic. I made a joke, which you clearly didn't get. You say you don't want to start a fight, but you've been trying to do so even before I posted. I agree with iueras. You know, if you don't find it funny and truly want to "leave a subject behind", the best way to do that is to refrain from posting in the first place. Please don't be the first and only person I have to ignore here.
