  1. Thanks guys! I did get it figured out but it was a bit of a pain. I built this in SolidWorks later on and wow, SW was so much easier to handle symmetry with actually. Yep! I learned this when I lost my work the first time and had to completely restart.
  2. That worked perfectly, thank you! I had to do 60 degrees for 6 engines though. The second question is how to get the engines flat against the engine adapters with zero empty space in between.
  3. I'm trying to make an engine cluster with 6 engines about one in the center. I'm having a lot of trouble doing this in 3DS Max, namely because of two problems: I can't get it symetric. I need them lined up perfectly for this and I don't know how to do that in Max. Secondly, I can't figure out a way to attach my engine thruster object to the engine cluster object and have them be centered. What I'm making is similar to the SpaceY R7 Ratite cluster, but different and for my own use. Any help would be much appreciated. I've tried searching for info on this and have had a lot of difficulty finding anything free. Edit: Bonus questions: Is there a way to set up attachment rules in 3DS Max so that I can build the actual rocket in it first? Is there a way to render said rocket in flight in 3DS Max with a smoke plume and all? Any ideas on where to find info on the actual design of the engines? I'd like to actually engineer them to be capable of being machined and working.
  4. Even if they did, would the design of the Merlin engines limit fuel to RP1/LOX only, or would you be able to do LH2/LOX?
  5. I have to tell you that is an awesome video, very well done. I actually lol'd at about half of it.
  6. I'd pay well over $150 for KSP in Cryengine with all the realism included.
  7. Personally I've found it to be very boring to let MJ launch and do things, I use it to plot hard transfers and stuff but otherwise I don't use it. I also have found that I personally enjoy LKO operations more so than a big mission to anywhere else. Recently I've been building a new station, using smaller rockets etc to force more launches for a more realistic progression than just one giant single launch.
  8. I have SSD RAID 0 with three OCZ Vertex 3 120GB's.
  9. So a question: Am I the only one who knows, or does everyone? If it's just me, I would sink my $$$ into a self sustaining habitat and build a station on Mars.
  10. I don't even design lifters, I have a set that I use for a given payload. In my career save I try not to kill any kerbals and I don't revert with difficulty settings at max. The "hope" part is not really intended as "gee I hope it makes orbit", it's the "hope" that you didn't mess up anything like forgetting solar panels on a lander, etc.
  11. I've been working on this for a while, big ship, lots of dV remaining. Any ideas on how to get a decent transfer to Bop or Pol from a 100km equatorial orbit around Tylo? I've already landed at Laythe and Vall and finished my Tylo landing as well.
  12. I guess additionally part of it is that I enjoy the LKO and launch operations more, interplanetary missions are pretty rare for me. I don't build launchers specific to payloads either, I build launchers and then load payloads onto them.
  13. I'm curious to see if anyone else also does extensive testing on safety certifying, AKA Kerbal Rating your ships. (Such as IRL Human Rated vehicles) Personally, I build a crew specific launch vehicle to get crews to orbit, which is one that has undergone extensive unmanned test flights and has an abort action group. For example, right now I use an ARES I for my crew transport to LKO, built using Tweakscale and a couple of KW parts. I've been testing it for about a week of IRL time, and it's flown maybe 15 times to get it all ironed out and running smoothly, today was my first manned flight to LKO and back to finish certification. If I am launching something like a station or a large ship, I send the crew up afterwards. Or, do you just throw Kerbals in and hope it works out? My career save is on hard so that gets expensive fast.
  14. Shoot I would have paid upwards of $100 for this game, I only paid $20 during a steam sale though.
  15. Edit: Never mind, answered my own question. Love your work here, thanks!
  16. Not from a cargo bay, but I have dropped one successfully.
  17. Any protips for low speed stability? Above 200m/s I'm having no issues, smooth as can be, but when below that I get large scale stalling during turns and such.
  18. Is there a max G limit when turning? I'm currently pulling upwards of 15G at speed. Also, can you post the reference craft file? I want to test mine against it before releasing. Thanks!
  19. Sweet challenge, I did this quite often in .90 for probes but so far the new aero has been killing my attempts, the rocket starts flipping wildly when I release from the plane.
