  1. Actually, I have tried to move the ISS once, in Orbiter. I cheated some DGIVs to the ISS docking ports, and fire up their engines. It makes ISS spins although killrot (SAS) has been enabled.
  2. Its Indonesia. Yes, I do know this problem is really bad
  3. Alright alright alright! Sometimes I feel that this thread has been derailed much, but Seret is right. Although we have already taught about the electromagnetic spectrum, and how non-ionizing radiation isn't that dangerous, my friend still insists that using laptop while it's charging will create radiation that will make cancer. And his justification are: Because someone sells glasses to prevent it! Nearly every parents that I know believe in this radiation scare, its like they forgot everything they learned at high school, and again one of my friend go to my school server room and say that because of many computers there is many radiations...
  4. Well, as far as I know Octave is the FOSS alternative to Matlab right? So it means that this: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/36476-WIN-KSP-Trajectory-Optimization-Tool-v0-10-Now-with-Rendezvous-Planner%21 could be theoretically ported to Octave, right? The only problem is to somehow connect your smartphone to the propulsion control and RCS
  5. Today, my friend invited me and several other friends to play Dota 2. And then he said that one of my friend cannot play because his mom say:.... you guess it, RADIATION!!!!!!!! ****!!!! And then, one of my friend in my party believe that LAPTOPS EMIT CANCER RADIATION!!! I'M SICK OF THIS!! WHY EVERYONE DOESN'T KNOW A THING ABOUT SCIENCE!!! (rant) So, again with prevalent radiation scare, like I remember like 4 year ago, there is a brochure about a demonstration of cellphones cook eggs, my grandma say that putting your cellphone in your pocket could paralyze your leg, and even on Slashdot there is a news about parents successfully make a school BANS WIFI BECAUSE OF RADIATION!!!! So, I know about light is a radiation and such, but is there, somewhere in the deep web, about something, a compilation of thing that will convince people that non-ionizing radiation isn't that evil? EDIT: Now I officially extends this discussion to ionizing radiation as well, as small dose of ionizing radiation isn't that dangerous, but it makes us got scared to build nuclear reactors that stopped us from spewing CO2 to the air
  6. Why sometime physics is a ..... ?! Like the universe hates everything that tries to travel at speed of light except light itself
  7. Agreed. Wait what? 130/month for 500 kB? or kb? If its a flat rate you could do overnight downloading like I am, I have downloaded over 10 GB games through 1.5 mbps connection, sure its slow but overnight download make it doesn't matter at all, except electricity costs, which makes me agree with you, unless in some future steam games could be downloaded through a raspberry pi
  8. Torrent technology never stops to fascinate me, its better with large amount of downloaders. Of course, having >$1000 spent on games and it disappear in minutes because someone on steam hates you and nuked your account is a real risk that is much more worse that server going down (offline mode anybody?) Or someone hacked your account. But distributed licence? Well that was new. DRM free is better
  9. Honestly I don't know, as I never watch PDP anyway, with my friends trying to replicate his lets play series on his own youtube channel and fails miserably..
  10. In my laptop I don't use AV because I'm careful with downloading stuff from the internet (no next clicking randomly), but my sister that also uses my laptop doesn't do the same, putting a lot of spyware on my laptop so I'm forced to install AVG. Although, my computer uses Linux
  11. Iraq War Days. I remember someone from Slashdot explaining NASA spending in IWD, which is a repost from his Google+: Donald King Shared publicly - Aug 9, 2012 From today forward, all federal government expenditures will be priced in "Iraq War Days" (IWD) or "Iraq War Years" (IWY). For quick reference: - MSL mission w/ Curiosity rover: 3.5 IWD - Cost of giving $10 to all 312M US citizens: 4.33 IWD - 2012 "General Science, Space and Technology" budget: 43.04 IWD - Cost of giving $100 to all 312M US citizens: 43.3 IWD - 2012 Welfare budget: 210.3 IWD (0.6 IWY) - Computed as 26% of the 2012 "Income Security" budget - Includes TANF (22%) welfare, SNAP (70%) and WIC (8%) food stamps - All ratios from 3rd party analysis of 2010 data; see http://goo.gl/ImbKc - 2012 "Medicare" budget: 672.9 IWD (1.8 IWY) - Cost of giving $2250 to all 312M US citizens: 975 IWD (2.7 IWY) - 2012 "National Defense" budget: 994.9 IWD (2.7 IWY) - 2012 "Social Security" budget: 1081 IWD (3.0 IWY) - 2012 Total budget: 4986 IWD (13 IWY) Source: "United States Federal budget, 2012" and "Mars Science Laboratory" pages on Wikipedia for budgets, google.com/publicdata for US population, National Priorities Project via "Cost of War" Wikipedia page for IWD exchange rate.
  12. Basically his atomic rockets website is the best! But I'm more surprised he joined this forum and created KSP first working Orion drive
  13. As far as I know its already exist? I just don't know the activation key, check it here: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Key_bindings and search for trim EDIT: But.... I do agree on resetting the trim part. As far as I know there isn't a way to reset trim, instead you need to un trim it manually EDIT^2: I also agree to change trim in the construction bay, or better after flight test, there is a button to save the current trim configuration so in the next flight you could just load the most stable trim configuration instead of trial and error every flight
  14. The big question is: Why Unity? You know what it do to KSP? If you want to make a KSP clone at least make it able to do multithreading and optionally OpenCL GPU calculation so things won't be as laggy And NVIDIA-only PhysX. Definitely not good, even they haven't implemented GPU compute yet. Then there is another problem: Is your idea could be implemented as mod in KSP? Again it is the cloning problem, if your clone is worse that the original one bye bye. However I think you may be confused on how to make a mod, in first page and they already told you EDIT: Ignore all my performance related rantings, yet! It might be really wrong
  15. Actually, that is what makes me think that Orion is kinda... bad? Getting to account of all of that nukes is hard, and one missing nuke = one city destroyed? Especially if there is a terrorist on board the ship What we need is something that have the same explosive power as nuke but it needs the ship to start it, it couldn't explode on itself Like inertial containment. But they have puny thrust...
  16. How about normal Orion, but the fuel is not free? You need to scan the planets, drop nuclear materials miner, feed the blutonium to nuke maker, and fill the drive with enough nukes so it could go anywhere
  17. Agreed. The relativistic kinetic kill vehicle could be a 100 metric ton (?) powered by a bussard ramjet? fusion torch? antimatter drive? and the target will see it as a normal peaceful ship until it suddenly hits their planet... But the question still remains: Why? What is your problem anyway? I couldn't currently imagine a STL interstellar trade or whatever, FTL is still much more imaginable
  18. Well I used to play skyrim until I just lose interest at it...I don't know why But everyone else starts to play it again
  19. Its experiencing transonic drag, wave drag and all of that weird stuff, which give rise to sound barrier If you want less drag, just go supersonic directly Again from Wikipedia: Supersonic aerodynamics are simpler than subsonic because the airsheets at different points along the plane often can't affect each other. Supersonic jets and rocket vehicles require several times greater thrust to push through the extra drag experienced within the transonic region (around Mach 0.85–1.2). At these speeds aerospace engineers can gently guide air around the fuselage of the aircraft without producing new shock waves but any change in cross sectional area further down the vehicle leads to shock waves along the body. Designers use the Supersonic area rule and the Whitcomb area rule to minimize sudden changes in size. Its either go slow or go fast, you couldn't go in the middle. So weird BUT..... What I forgot to account for is there are engines that could push it though the sound barrier
  20. Well that is kinda funny, as currently the navies are considering to convert their steam catapults to electromagnetic catapults, and it's a standard feature in new aircraft carrier : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_Aircraft_Launch_System But I do agree that 300 m/s maglev is overkill, the air resistance at that speed is kinda significant, right? And linac? That is a weird word choice, as it usually means a linear particle accelerator, and linear motor have low maintenance either
  21. I think maglev are pretty much maintenance free, as in Inductrack design the maglev rails are nothing more than stacked sheet metal
  22. Wait WHAT? Our great great.... wait wrong word No one have ever tested Orion with real nukes, the works. If you started the drive in space you could ignore fallout If you sprayed oil into the pusher plate it doesn't ablate If there is insane acceleration add more dampener and mass The core is that before we try Orion with real nukes, we still doesn't have enough evidence to prove that it is impossible And for FTL: Interstellar warp drive is correctly balanced
  23. Its depends on the thrust level For the poll, basically I just ignores the mistakes/inaccuracies unless if the movie do the same mistake as other movie, like several SyFy movies basically copies The Core's plot
