The Versatility Marathon Challenge

I could actually build the Skylon in B9, it has SABRE engines in that pack and all the parts needed to achieve that look. -

Its partly due to the number of plugins being run. When I load up the game I am using around 2.95-3.2GB of my 8GB of RAM. But due to the 32bit code that KSP runs it wont run more than 3.4GB of RAM. -
I get those NullReferenceErrors, and I don't have FuelTastic. The funny thing is, they aren't very regular. Sometimes I get them non-stop other times I wont see them at all.

The Versatility Marathon Challenge

I have a lander that might work, I have tested it on Kerbin and it can easily make it to a 125km orbit there from the ground. And Kerbal Engineering tells me it has enough d/V and TWR to make orbit on Eve, but it is over 75 parts and I couldn't bring it with my ship TO Eve. For some reason my computer flips out at 200 parts. Even though my i5 should be able to handle it without a problem, it rarely takes more than 33% load on one core. -
I have attempted this recently... with a probe, using Remote Tech 2, and the signal delay ON, so I have a delay of 74 seconds. I have successfully landed the probe there.

Are you sure? I went to this page, and found every texture pack that I am currently using. But I did not go through all 160+ pages of this thread and check every Bill, Jeb, and Bobs link. http://www.reddit.com/r/KSPTexturePacks/

I am considering getting one of the three life support plugins, (in no particular order) -TAC life support -Ioncross Crew Support -Asmi ECLSS mod. I have read through most of each of their threads and I am still having a hard time figuring out which would be the one I would want to use. My primary concerns are as follows. -Any additional parts have to look decent and not take up a funky buttlovin amount of memory. So no more 100+ part installs I have enough of those. -Stable, MUST BE STABLE, no more random crashes or bugs caused by compatibility errors. (My list of currently used plugins is in my sig below) -Simple, can't be another "go into the cfg file alter lines 108-219 with this code script." I dont have the time for all that right now. -Last but not least, still supported so when a new patch comes out and breaks everything it isn't left at the bottom of the forums till another purge happens. I know I sound like a demanding elitist prick, but I have really wanted a decent life support plugin for a while. Just none of them looked stable enough for me to try them.

No ALT-F12. Must have FAR+DRE+RT2 installed. Every craft must have a use no pointless craft. It doesn't mean I don't make fun craft, I enjoy the challenges section quite a bit. It inspires me to build different things.

I beg to differ... XI-3 9140d/V .21:1 TWR on ion engines. XI-2 over 9600m/s d/V .14:1 TWR on ion engines. If you have patience you can use ion engines to do a lot more than just probes. But they do work best on probes because they weigh very little and provide a great deal of d/V. But the biggest problem is the amount of electrical draw that the engines require is quite a lot and it can often overloads the typical recharging system of a the smallest probes.

I love that craft. One side note there is a newer version of FAR you may want to download. -

Later I may mess around a bit and see if I can get a craft to break the Mach 4 wall in FAR without turning into a orbiter. -

Thanks, the XI-3 isn't nearly as slow as the XI-2. The 2100m/s burn into Eve only took 2hr and 35 min instead of the 3hr 45min of the XI-2. -

Well my mission control ship, to help with the landing of my probe finally arrived at Eve. The XI-3, great vessel, slightly faster than the XI-2, same range, and more power. -
While most of this works in normal KSP, when using FAR those things add so much additional drag that it isn't worth taking them. If you are going to add additional stages to turn it into a horizontally launched rocket with jet support, then you may as well just build a rocket.

Its not they would be more efficient, they would be a pain in the but to design. Once you have a working theory on space plane SSTOs, or even SSTOs in general why would you go and throw all that out to be able to drop, drop tanks or detachable boosters. The balancing before the drop and after would be a nightmare.

The MachingBird Challenge!

Mach 9 in FAR, I find that hard to believe, unless they were using heavily modded parts, I don't see it working. Especially if they are also running DRE. -

The other thing is, if you are using FAR, less is more. If not, more is more. -

Ok, my fault then, it was a simple misunderstanding. -

A little bit of bravado there. While you have a decent enough looking aircraft, I would be more impressed if you had achieved that in FAR, and didn't talk trash about your competitors creations. -

Thank you, I could have gone bigger... if I had more Kerbals. -
My fascination with them is simple. They are my primary way of getting payloads of over 50 tons into orbit.

Looks like troll bait post.

I actually quit doing that because it causes other problems. It is easier to move the VTOL engines for me now. I will post an explanation when I get more time on how I do it and why I do it. It may help others to be able to build better VTOLs.
